1000 Hour (styled 1000HOUR®) is an Australian brand of at-home lash and brow products, owned by the privately held Sydney company Chemcorp International [3]. It began with a single item, the Lash & Brow Dye Kit, a do-it-yourself version of the eyelash and eyebrow tinting usually done in beauty salons. Its unusual name comes from that first product: according to the company, a lash lives for roughly six weeks, or about 1,008 hours, which is also how long it says the dye lasts per application [4].

The range has since grown from tints and dyes into brow pencils, stains, styling wax, lamination and lash-lift kits, and small grooming tools. The brand remains active. In 2025 it introduced its first complete redesign of logo and packaging, and later that year it expanded its range in a national Australian department-store chain.

## Origin & founders

The brand's own materials do not give a founding year or name a founder. They say only that 1000 Hour has been helping people "enhance their natural beauty" for more than 30 years, and that it started with the aim of offering salon-quality products for use at home.

A more specific date comes from the trade press. In a 2022 article on Chemcorp's expansion, Managing Director Jodie Phillips described 1000 Hour as "a product created by my father in 1992" and said it was celebrating 30 years that year [11]. The same article identifies her father as John Fisher, who started Chemcorp from his garage in the late 1980s and moved it into its first warehouse in the Sydney suburb of Penshurst in 1990. A 2024 feature in the New Zealand outlet BeautyEQ also states that the brand launched in Australia in 1992 [14].

Chemcorp's own brand page uses an older and vaguer formulation, saying the brand was "established over twenty years ago" [13]. The page is undated, and the phrase does not contradict 1992; it simply gives less detail. This article follows the 1992 date given by the owner's managing director.

The name has stayed tied to that first product. The company explains it as a reference to the "6-week (1008-hour) lifespan of a lash" and each dye application is meant to last for roughly that long.

## History & milestones

For many years the Lash & Brow Dye Kit was the centre of the range. It came in several shades, from light brown to blue-black, and later joined by a gentler plant-extract version and a separate tint kit for sensitive skin.

By the early 2020s the kit was widely reviewed by Australian consumers. A 2021 article on the Australian review site beautyheaven called it the most-reviewed brow tint on the site, with more than 300 user reviews, and stated that 1.2 kits had been sold every minute during 2020 [9]. Later that year the same site's Best In Beauty 2021 awards named the 1000 Hour Brush-In Lash & Brow Dye Kit its Best Brow Product [10].

In 2022, while the brand marked its 30th year, Chemcorp announced a move to a new 9,130-square-metre facility at Prestons, New South Wales. The company had earlier moved from Penshurst to Bankstown in 1995 and to Taren Point in 2005, and its growing beauty portfolio was given as the reason for the latest relocation.

In February 2025 the brand unveiled a new logo and packaging. An advertiser-supplied piece in the trade publication Retail Beauty described the change as "the first complete overhaul" in the brand's history [12]. In that piece, Brand Manager Sylvia Lechowicz said the products had kept their quality but the packaging "had begun to feel dated". The company has stated that the formulas themselves were not changed, and the relaunch came with new Dye Kit shades, among them Graphite and Light Brown/Honey. The website now carries the line "New Look, Same Award-Winning Formula".

In October 2025 a press release announced a wider range at the Australian retailer Big W, including two Dye Kit shades and a clear Brow Styling Wax [15].

## Ownership

1000 Hour belongs to Chemcorp International (Chemcorp Pty Ltd), which the brand's own website names as its owner [3]. Trade press describes Chemcorp as a privately owned Australian business that develops and distributes beauty products for both consumer and professional markets. It is led by Jodie Phillips, the daughter of founder John Fisher.

Within Chemcorp, 1000 Hour sits beside other company-owned brands such as Protech, Bathefex and pureTAN, another Australian brand that Chemcorp acquired and was relaunching in 2022. Chemcorp also distributes international brands, among them SheaMoisture and Real Techniques. According to the 2022 trade article, it exports to more than 15 countries and employs over 50 staff. The brand's postal address is Chemcorp's site at Prestons, New South Wales.

## Philosophy & positioning

The company describes its purpose in practical terms. Its stated vision is "to help every woman enhance her natural beauty, feel her best and do so in a way that fits her schedule and budget." Its mission statement adds a line about confidence: "We want women to radiate confidence in all areas of life, because we know when you look good, you feel good."

The core idea is that a treatment normally booked at a salon can be done at the bathroom sink. Chemcorp's brand page frames it as offering "salon-professional quality products" for home use "for a fraction of the cost." On its homepage the brand summarises itself with four short claims: salon-quality results at home, never tested on animals, proven results for more than 30 years, and Australian owned. It also says that "over 7 million brows" are made up with its products each year.

Although most messaging is addressed to women, the company notes that men also use the products, for example to touch up facial hair. The company's ambassador is Jules Robinson, who has worked in the hair and beauty industry for more than 20 years. According to the company, the partnership began after she posted about the Dye Kit on Instagram.

1000 Hour is sold through its own webshop and a wide network of retail partners. In Australia these include pharmacy chains, supermarkets and discount department stores. Consumer orders ship within Australia and to New Zealand. The original Dye Kit, however, cannot be sent to New Zealand because of regulatory requirements there. In the United States the company points customers to a distributor, Pretty Woman, based in New York [4].

## Products & innovation

The brand's range divides into two kinds of colour treatment for lashes and brows, plus a group of shaping and grooming products.

The **Lash & Brow Dye Kit**, sometimes called "The Original Kit", is the product the brand was built on. According to the company it is a peroxide-based formula that permanently colours the hair, much like a hair dye, which makes it suited to covering grey hairs. A colour cream and a developer are mixed before application, and the company advises a patch test 48 hours beforehand.

The **Lash & Brow Tint Kit** works differently. The company describes it as a non-peroxide formula meant for sensitive skin. It uses two gels applied one after the other rather than mixed, and it stains the skin under the brow as well as tinting the hairs. The company likens the result to henna.

Around these sit the newer products: a Brow Stain that tints skin and hair to make brows look fuller, a 3-in-1 Brow Pencil, a Brow Cushion Duo, Brow Styling Wax, and at-home Brow Lamination and Lash Lift kits. The range also includes spoolie wands, a brow sculpting brush, a facial and brow trimmer, and a dab-on concealer for grey hair and regrowth.

**How long the colour lasts.** The company states that both the Dye Kit and the Tint Kit give results that last up to six weeks. Independent testing has found less. In an April 2025 trial of the rebranded Dye Kit by five staff at the Australian site Bondi Beauty, testers reported that the colour usually lasted about one to two weeks before fading [8]. They scored the kit between 7 and 10 out of 10. Their main complaints were a small mixing tray, some mess during application and minor staining of the skin.

**Animal testing and packaging.** The company says its products are "tested on beauties, not animals" and describes itself as committed to cruelty-free practices; no third-party certification of this is documented. On packaging, the brand says owner Chemcorp is a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), an industry body working towards a circular economy for packaging, and that it aims to improve the sustainability of its packaging "where practical." Chemcorp was a finalist in APCO's Reporting Excellence category in 2024 [3].

## Recognition

The best-documented honour is the Best Brow Product title in beautyheaven's Best In Beauty 2021 awards, given to the Brush-In Lash & Brow Dye Kit. The brand's current tagline refers to an "award-winning formula" without naming further prizes. Earlier the same year, beautyheaven had also described the Dye Kit as the most-reviewed brow tint among its users.

## Current status

1000 Hour is active. Its 2025 redesign was followed in October 2025 by an expanded range at Big W, and in 2026 the brand's webshop lists new arrivals such as the Brow Lamination Kit and a Lash Lift Kit. The brand remains owned by Chemcorp International and is sold mainly in Australia, with smaller distribution in New Zealand and the United States.
