AGATHO Perfumes, which trades as Agatho Parfum, is an Italian fragrance house founded in Rome in 2018 [2]. It takes its name and its central story from Agatho, a perfumer of ancient Pompeii, and builds its range around the ancient world: the buried Roman city first, then Greek myth and the Olympic Games. Its bottles are closed with hand-made porcelain caps that the company ties to the Neapolitan Capodimonte tradition.

The brand is active. In 2026 its Pompei Collection was picked by a jury for the Avant-Garde design area of the packaging trade fair Packaging Première, and a new distributor took over its sales in the German-speaking countries.

## Origin & founders

According to the company, Agatho Parfum began in the studio of Alessandro Bianchi, a painter and architect, in Rome in 2018. The brand's own account says its identity started with a drawing rather than a scent: a sketch of "an object that inspires the desire to own it". That origin in design, not in a perfumery lab, still shows in how the house presents itself, with the bottle and its cap treated as part of the product.

Sources describe Bianchi's role in slightly different ways, though all of them point to the same person. The German trade publication m-w.de states plainly that the brand was founded in 2018 by Alessandro Bianchi [8]. The brand's own "La Maison" page is less direct: it says only that the house was founded in his studio and never uses the word founder [2]. Packaging Première, writing in March 2026, refers to him as the company's CEO [9].

The name comes from a historical figure. The company says Agatho was a perfumer in ancient Pompeii whose workshop can still be visited at the archaeological site, and that the elegance of the ancient city became the house's main source of inspiration [2]. Its exhibitor profile at the Florence fragrance fair Pitti Immagine Fragranze goes further, describing Agatho as a master perfumer who made ointments for the Roman aristocracy of the Empire.

## Ownership

No parent group or acquisition history is documented. The brand's website names Caminus Capodimonte S.r.l., an Italian limited company, as the business that owns and operates Agatho Parfum [1]. The house's headquarters city is not published; the founding took place in Rome.

## Philosophy & positioning

Agatho Parfum frames its perfumes as a way into history. The company describes its aim as an "immersive olfactory journey" in which perfume "becomes a means of discovery and knowledge is transformed into emotion". On its homepage it puts the idea more loosely, calling the project "a small act of madness to wear every day". In its Pitti profile, the house lists elegance and culture among the values it wants to express.

Craft is the other half of the pitch. The company stresses that its products are made in Italy, and says artisans shape by hand the objects that hold and seal each fragrance. Every bottle is closed with a porcelain stopper worked and painted by hand using Capodimonte techniques, and the brand says no two stoppers are the same. The Pitti profile links these techniques to the Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, the royal porcelain works whose methods it dates to 1740, founded under Charles III of Bourbon, the king under whom the excavations of Pompeii began [10]. That date belongs to the porcelain tradition, not to the perfume house.

The house presents itself as a niche perfume brand. Packaging Première described the bottles as "true collector's pieces" and the caps as sculptural and entirely handmade.

## Products & innovation

The range is organised into three themed collections, 17 fragrances in all.

The **Pompei Collection** is the original line, which m-w.de calls "the genesis of the brand world". It holds nine fragrances in 100 ml bottles, each built around a mood the brand links to the city frozen by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. The company's tagline for it reads "A city stopped in time. Nine emotions left intact." The nine are Rossopompeiano, Castiamanti, 195 a.C., Adone, Sileno, Giardino di Ercole, Fauno, Portamarina and Vettii, with short themes such as "fragile love" for Adone, instinct for Fauno and wisdom for Sileno. This is the collection with the Capodimonte porcelain caps.

The **Mytho Collection** turns to Greek mythology. Its name comes from the Greek *mythos*, "tale", and it pairs four deities with four ingredients or ideas: Hera with orange blossom in Terraviva, Dionysus with grape must in Seigiorni, Athena with citrus in Olimpoverde, and Eros with desire in Senzaragione. These are 50 ml extraits de parfum, a more concentrated form than eau de parfum, in white bottles with gilded details.

The **Olympia Collection**, the newest, is described by the brand as "a tribute to vetiver", the earthy, woody grass root used widely in perfumery. Inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, it follows an athlete through four stages: Verdeseta for preparation, Forzapura for effort, Bronzeo for rest and Cinisca for liberation. The company calls Cinisca one of the stars of the line. All four are 50 ml eaux de parfum, and the brand presents them as one vetiver shown in four shades.

The brand does not name its perfumers. The London retailer Bloom Perfumery attributes the line to the Italian perfumer Maurizio Cerizza [11].

## History & milestones

Beyond its founding, the house's public history is short and mostly recent. It has exhibited at Pitti Immagine Fragranze in Florence, a trade fair for niche perfumery. The company also says it has partnered with and sponsored cultural events, naming the Toronto International Film Festival and the Torino Film Festival, though it gives no years [2].

According to Agatho Parfum, its fragrances are sold through a network of selected boutiques in more than 30 countries [2]. In July 2026, m-w.de reported that the distributor Classic Parfums had taken over distribution of the brand in the German-speaking countries with immediate effect, selling through selected perfumeries and specialist retailers [8].

## Recognition

In March 2026, Packaging Première reported that the jury had selected the Pompei Collection for the Design category of its Avant-Garde area, where it was shown at the 2026 fair [9]. The selection is a showcase rather than a prize. The article singled out the handmade Capodimonte porcelain caps and the match between the fragrances and the look of the bottles.

## Current status

Agatho Parfum is active. Its latest documented activity is the July 2026 distribution agreement with Classic Parfums [8], following the Packaging Première selection earlier that year. The brand's website, carrying a 2026 copyright notice, lists the Olympia fragrances as new releases.
