ApoLine is a German brand of manicure, pedicure and eyebrow instruments: nail scissors, files, clippers, tweezers and callus tools. It belongs to WEPA Apothekenbedarf, a family-owned supplier to pharmacies based in Hillscheid, and is sold only through pharmacies [2]. Rather than creams or cosmetics, the range consists entirely of metal, glass and ceramic tools for nail and skin care.

The brand's identity rests on craftsmanship. ApoLine says that every instrument combines modern production with hand-finishing carried out in Solingen, Germany [3]. The year the brand itself was launched, and the people who created it, are not publicly documented; the long history usually told around it is that of its parent company.

## Origin and parent company

ApoLine's background is inseparable from WEPA Apothekenbedarf, which describes itself as having some 140 years of German company history and as having remained in family ownership since its founding [2]. The company traces its roots to 1883, when Jean Paulus and his brother-in-law Albert Thewalt set up the firm Paulus & Thewalt in Höhr in the Nassau area [9]. In its early decades it manufactured apparatus, vessels and utensils for pharmaceutical and chemical use, and the business passed down through the Paulus family over several generations.

In 1957 Paulus & Thewalt merged with Georg Wenderoth of Kassel, and the combined name WEPA was formed from the first letters of Wenderoth and Paulus [10]. When the Wenderoth stock company withdrew in 1960, the business continued as WEPA Paulus & Thewalt GmbH & Co. These dates belong to the parent company, not to ApoLine; no source places a launch date on the instrument brand itself.

## History and milestones

From the 1990s WEPA began building its own consumer brands for the over-the-counter areas of pharmacies. Its company timeline for 1993 names labels such as apoday, aponorm blood-pressure monitors and mosquito insect repellent, but does not mention ApoLine, so the brand's exact place in that expansion remains unclear.

A broader step came in 2013, when WEPA extended its pharmacy business from more than 20,000 pharmacies in Germany to pharmacies in Austria and France [10]. ApoLine's own website now lists WEPA entities in Vienna and in Mundolsheim, France, alongside the head office in Hillscheid. The parent also runs a logistics centre with a high-bay warehouse and a printing works in nearby Höhr-Grenzhausen.

## Ownership

ApoLine is a house brand of WEPA Apothekenbedarf GmbH & Co KG, which presents it as one of its quality brands [2]. Within WEPA it sits alongside the apoday dietary supplements, including Heisse Zitrone, aponorm blood-pressure monitors and mosquito insect protection, as well as the TOPITEC mixing systems for pharmacy-made dermatological preparations. WEPA's management has included Dr. Christian Ciesielski and Dr. Heike Ciesielski since 2009. No acquisitions or changes of ownership involving ApoLine are documented.

## Philosophy and positioning

ApoLine's tagline, "Perfekt bis ins Detail" ("perfect down to the detail"), frames the range as a quality line for nails and skin. On its concept page the brand groups its promises under headings such as a quality guarantee, functional design, lifelong service, stainless INOX steel and the golden ratio. It explains the last of these directly: ApoLine says its instruments follow the golden section, a rule of proportion used in architecture, art and craft since antiquity.

The pharmacy-only model is presented as deliberate. "For good reason only from the pharmacy," the concept page states, before linking that choice to the hand-finishing done in Solingen [3]. The company adds that several independent certifications and its own quality control keep the products in good condition, though it does not name the certifications. No third-party certifications are publicly identified.

Design for particular users is a recurring theme. According to the company, the range includes special versions for left-handed people, for people with a nickel allergy (chrome-plated, stainless or gold-plated finishes), for problem nails (micro-serrated blades and buffer-spring clippers) and, with rounded shapes, for people with diabetes and for children.

The brand also makes service claims. Its concept page promises to repair scissors free of charge if they ever become blunt, while the homepage advertises a 30-year guarantee with free repairs [1]. The two pages word the guarantee differently, and its full terms are not set out on either.

## Products and innovation

The range is organised by task. Nail scissors include a micro-serrated model, offered in a standard and an INOX stainless-steel version, alongside scissors for left-handers, baby scissors, a combined nail-and-skin scissor and toenail scissors. Files come in sapphire versions of different lengths and in coloured glass. There are nail clippers, buffer-spring nail nippers, cuticle scissors and a cuticle nipper. For the feet, ApoLine offers ceramic and glass callus files and a callus plane with replacement blades. Eyebrow care is covered by tweezers in slanted, straight, rounded, pointed and gold-plated forms, and the accessories include a rubber cuticle pusher with a nail cleaner, a blackhead remover and storage cases.

The nail scissor is the product the brand chose to show in its own film, which follows an untreated blank as it becomes a finished pair of scissors. ApoLine says the final sharpening is always done by hand, a step it states it has never dropped [8].

The brand also publishes guidance on materials. It explains that nickel-plated surfaces tend to have a yellowish sheen, chrome-plated ones a bluish gloss and stainless steel a brushed finish. According to ApoLine, each of its instruments has a nickel layer beneath a chrome layer [7]. A separate care page advises keeping a small amount of resin-free oil on the joint of scissors and clippers, re-oiling after sterilisation, and notes that loose scissors can be readjusted thanks to the original screws.

## Recognition

No independent awards or press coverage of ApoLine are documented. The brand itself claims to be "No. 1 in the pharmacy" for beauty accessories, citing IQVIA's IMS Pharma Trend Report with data as of September 2021 [1]. This is a market-share claim made by the company, not an award.

## Current status

ApoLine is active. Its website shows a full current range sold through pharmacies, and WEPA's corporate timeline continues to 2024. The brand does not run its own social media channels; the accounts linked from its website belong to WEPA Apothekenbedarf.
