Arktis BioPharma is a German maker of dietary supplements built around gut health. The business behind it, Arktis BioPharma GmbH, is based in Wickede near Dortmund [9], and the company says it has stood for pre- and probiotics and individually tailored supplements since 2010 [8]. Over time the range has widened to Arktis Vetcare, a line of feed supplements for dogs, cats and horses.

Much of the brand's public face comes from a second company, Arktis BioPharma Schweiz AG, which imports and sells the products in Switzerland. It was set up by Julia and Roman Gruber, who previously ran a gut-health practice in Basel, and it publishes a long-running podcast on digestion and the microbiome.

## Origin & founders

Little is known publicly about the people who started the German company, and no founders are named. Its legal notice lists Dennis Fechner and Sabrina Fechner as managing directors, with the company registered at the district court in Arnsberg [9]. The brand dates its activity to 2010.

The Swiss branch has a better-documented origin story. Julia and Roman Gruber ran a practice in Basel for more than 15 years, focused on gut health and nutrition coaching. Roman Gruber, who describes himself as a former professional athlete, says the couple carried out stool analyses early on and later moved into microbiome testing. The practice also offered individual micronutrient blends and face-to-face consultations, and a medical practice assistant on the team handled blood draws and infusions. Once they had identified what they saw as the causes of their clients' problems, he explains, they needed products to restore the gut.

According to a 2026 episode of the company's podcast, the Grubers came across the Arktis BioPharma products through this practice work and began importing them into Switzerland. As more therapists asked to sell the products themselves, the couple founded a Swiss representation, Arktis BioPharma Schweiz, to meet that demand [6]. The same episode traces Roman Gruber's own route from the construction trade through competitive sport to biochemistry. The year the Swiss company was founded has not been published.

## Ownership

No corporate group above Arktis BioPharma GmbH is documented. The relationship between the two companies that carry the name is described mainly from the Swiss side.

Two countries are attached to the brand. The legal notice on the Swiss website names Arktis BioPharma Schweiz AG, with an address in Einsiedeln, Switzerland [3]. The same Swiss site, however, calls the German company its "German parent company", says that firm still produces the preparations in Wickede, and describes the Swiss company's role as importing and distributing them in Switzerland [6]. It does not say whether the parent relationship involves a shareholding. This article follows the Swiss site's own account and treats Arktis BioPharma as a German brand with a Swiss representation.

## Philosophy & positioning

The brand's message rests on one idea: that health depends on the gut. In the words of its Swiss about page, health "stands and falls with the gut", which is why the company says it chose to specialise in gut health [2]. Its products are presented as combinations of probiotics, prebiotics, dietary fibre, micronutrients and plant compounds that can be matched to a client's individual complaints.

The German company sums up its mission as "holistic health for the whole family – two- and four-legged". It lists three values: individuality, honesty and dealing with customers on an equal footing, and steady, continuous improvement. It says its motivation is to make sensible products of good quality at fair prices. The Swiss homepage puts it another way, presenting as its vision the line that health should not be a matter of chance but a conscious decision.

Both sites stress purity and transparency. The Swiss company says it relies on pure substances without additives, while the German site states that 98 per cent of its products contain no additives or only a minimal share. The company also points to full declaration of ingredients and independent laboratory analyses, and its German shop describes its products as being of pharmacy quality.

A large part of the positioning is aimed at professionals. The Swiss company addresses alternative practitioners, physiotherapists and practice owners, offering them personal support, further training and help in building the products into their daily work [4]. The Swiss homepage also claims more than 20 years of practical experience with the microbiome and the gut, and says its products were developed and tested in therapeutic practice.

## Products & innovation

The core of the range is the Arktibiotic line of gut preparations, which includes Sensitive, Premium, Compens and Vivora. The Swiss shop describes the Premium formula as supplying selected bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, two common groups of gut bacteria. Vivora, promoted on the German site as an autumn product, combines vitamins, minerals and postbiotics in a liquid taken as a morning drink.

Alongside the probiotics sit fibre and other supplements. Grow is an acacia fibre powder, pitched by the company as a gentle, natural source of fibre. Strong is a liquid colostrum, described as a cold-sterile-filtered colostrum serum without additives. The Bitter-Elixier is a herbal tonic that the brand says is traditionally made with eleven bitter herbs. The wider catalogue is organised around vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, enzymes and bitter substances, and around uses such as digestion, the immune system, histamine, sport, energy, sleep and the heart.

Arktis Vetcare carries the same approach to animals. Its range covers gut-focused products such as Probiovet, omega-3 fish oil capsules, joint and immune support, a horse product called EquiDetox, and supplements for pets fed on raw diets. The Swiss company also offers microbiome analysis, products for practices, and coaching and courses; one team member, trained as a medical practice assistant and later as a nutritionist, now runs microbiome analysis online by video call.

Accounts of where the products are made differ between the brand's own pages. The Swiss site's 2026 podcast notes say the German parent manufactures them in Wickede, in its own clean rooms [6], and a 2024 article on the Swiss site likewise credits the German company as producer and partner [7]. The undated Swiss about page, by contrast, says the Swiss company does not only distribute its supplements but also produces and develops them [2]. On raw materials, the about page describes the suppliers as reputable German firms, while the 2024 article says ingredients may come from outside Europe, with quality tests and certificates of analysis carried out in Germany [7]. The Swiss homepage refers more broadly to European manufacturing.

## Sustainability

The 2024 article on production, written after a visit to the manufacturer, describes the packaging approach. According to that account, the company avoids unnecessary plastic, uses brown glass wherever possible, and sells refill pouches that are compostable and have no plastic lining. No third-party certifications are documented.

## History & milestones

The brand traces its work back to 2010. The Vetcare line for animals was added later, though the year has not been published, and the Swiss representation was founded by the Grubers at an undisclosed date.

The Swiss company has become the more visible voice of the brand through its podcast, Darmglück, hosted by Julia Gruber. An episode from August 2026 describes the Swiss business as a core team of seven people plus several freelancers, and admits that the company looks larger from the outside than it is. The about page states that the podcast has passed 500,000 downloads, and by October 2026 it had reached episode DG369 [5]. The German site runs its own podcast under the name Stuhlgespräche.

## Recognition

The German homepage carries the line "We are awarded" alongside a reference to five years of quality, safety and customer satisfaction. The awarding body is not named, and no independent awards or press coverage have been documented.

## Current status

Arktis BioPharma is active. The Swiss site published podcast episode DG369 on 6 October 2026, and both the German and Swiss online shops are operating. The Swiss site is published in German, French, English and Italian.

As of October 2026, the German shop listed several Arktibiotic products, among them Compens, Sensitive and Premium, as sold out until further notice, along with the Vetcare product Probiovet. The German shop also stated that, because of new EU packaging rules, it now delivers only within Germany and Austria, and it refers Swiss customers to the Swiss company.
