BAREN is a South Korean body-care brand based in Seoul that began with at-home foot care and has since widened into hand, nail and body products. It is operated by Marslabs Inc., a company in the Seongdong district of Seoul [1]. According to the brand, it launched in 2015 with what it calls the first at-home, salon-quality foot care product on the market [2].

The brand's range mixes skincare-style formulas, such as softeners, heel balms, masks and nail oils, with mechanical tools: stainless-steel foot files and electric callus removers. Its Korean website now presents it as a "Targeted Bodycare" brand, built on the idea that each part of the body has its own skin concerns and needs its own treatment [5].

## Origin & founders

BAREN dates its beginnings to 2015. Its English-language site ties that year to "operating experience in the beauty salon", saying the products were developed so that people could get professional body care at home without visiting a salon. The About page tells the same story from the product side: the first launch in 2015 was a home foot-care product that the company says competed with more expensive salon treatments [2].

The brand does not publicly name a founder. Marslabs Inc. is led by chief executive Sangyun Lee, who also appears as the data protection officer on the Korean shop, but he is described in company terms rather than as the person who started the brand.

## History & milestones

For most of its first decade, BAREN concentrated on feet. The Korean brand page describes ten years of focus on foot care as the source of its expertise, and states that the brand is now carrying the same standards over into whole-body care [5]. On the English site this shift shows in a newer body line aimed at "body breakouts" and uneven skin tone, alongside the original foot and hand ranges.

The company says it was named a winner of the Hi Seoul Brand Award in the beauty and cosmetics category in both 2018 and 2019 [2]. It also says its products are now sold in eight countries, naming the United States, Japan and Singapore among them.

In July 2026 the brand's operating company exhibited as MarsLabs Inc. at Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas, a trade fair for the beauty industry held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center [7]. The exhibitor listing, written by the company, introduced BAREN as a Korean brand "specializing in targeted bodycare" and listed product areas ranging from hand and body care and cleansers to tools and devices, brightening and anti-ageing [7].

## Ownership

BAREN is owned and run by Marslabs Inc. (마르스랩스 in Korean), which operates both of the brand's online shops under the same company registration number [1]. No acquisitions, parent group above Marslabs or sister brands are documented.

## Philosophy & positioning

The company describes its aim as making salon-style body care affordable and convenient at home, with products "designed by real experts". Its stated promise is to deliver "safe, nurturing, and innovative body care solutions", and it says it favours clean, dermatologist-validated ingredients. The English site's tagline is "From our spa to your glow".

A recurring theme is the extension of self-care beyond the face. BAREN says its products are meant to widen people's routines from skincare to the body, feet and hands. The English site organises this as a three-step routine: soften, then exfoliate and clean, then moisturise.

Much of the brand's positioning rests on its standing in Korean retail. BAREN says it is the leading foot-care brand at Olive Young, which it describes as Korea's largest health and beauty drugstore chain with more than 1,200 stores [1]. Its Korean page adds that it ranks first for foot care on both Coupang, a large Korean online marketplace, and Olive Young [5]. These rankings come from the company itself and have not been independently confirmed.

The brand also leans on customer reviews. Its homepage cites more than 200,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.9, while the same page elsewhere refers to "over 10 million genuine reviews", a much larger figure that the site does not reconcile [1]. The About page further mentions collaborations with more than 150 Instagram influencers.

## Products & innovation

Foot care remains the centre of the range. The best-known product on the English site is the Foot Softener At-home Kit, which pairs a foot file with a callus-softening spray. A standalone Foot Exfoliant Softener, a Hydrating Heel Balm, a Shea Butter Sleeping Heel Patch worn overnight and a Centella Deep Soothing Ritual Foot Mask build out the routine. Shea butter and centella, a plant extract commonly used to calm skin, appear in product names, though the brand does not present them as signature ingredients.

The tools are a distinctive part of the line. The Callus Remover Magic Stainless Pro is a double-sided foot file that the company says is made from Korean 304-grade stainless steel so that it does not break or wear out. Two electric devices sit above it. The Pedi Mate Dual Power is a vacuum-type callus remover with two speed settings for different areas of the foot. The Pedi Perfect, shown as a new arrival on the English homepage, combines a softener with a high-speed motor and sanding pads. The Korean shop sells it as an all-in-one set and has also run a customer survey for another electric remover, the Pedi Master.

For hands and nails, the range includes the Nail & Cuticle Care Essence Oil Pen, a nail strengthener, a cuticle remover and a travel-size foaming hand wash. The newer body line includes a low-pH body wash with BHA (salicylic acid, an exfoliating acid) aimed at breakouts on the back.

On safety, BAREN says it has completed skin irritation, antibacterial and hazardous-materials testing [2]. It describes its ingredients as naturally derived and says it works with outside research teams and factories to develop its foot-care line. No third-party certifications, such as vegan or cruelty-free labels, are documented.

## Recognition

Beyond the Hi Seoul Brand Awards it reports for 2018 and 2019, BAREN's homepage says it was featured in Pop Daily, quoting the line that "salon-level care is no longer a luxury". The brand also points to a following of around 4,600 on Shopee, the Southeast Asian shopping platform, with a 4.9 rating there. No independent editorial coverage of the brand has been identified.

## Current status

BAREN is active. It runs two online shops: an English-language global store that prices in US dollars and ships internationally, and a Korean-language store at baren.co.kr. Both list current foot, hand and body products, and the brand's move into whole-body care is under way. In Korea it is sold through Olive Young and Coupang, and the company reports distribution in eight countries in total [2].
