BepanCare is a scar-care name used by the German pharmaceutical group Bayer for a single product, BepanCare Narben-Gel ("scar gel"). The gel combines silicone with dexpanthenol, also known as pro-vitamin B5, and comes with a built-in massage roller. It is presented on the website of Bayer's Bepanthen range, alongside the group's wound ointments, eye drops and nasal care, and is marketed by Bayer Vital GmbH in Leverkusen [2].

Rather than a stand-alone brand with its own range, BepanCare works as a sub-brand attached to one product. Its public profile rests largely on Bayer's own communication, including an August 2026 press release reporting results from a cosmetic study of the gel in adults and children [4]. The brand is active.

## Ownership

BepanCare belongs to Bayer. The product page names Bayer Vital GmbH, based in Leverkusen, as the company behind it, and Bayer describes Bayer Vital as the subsidiary that distributes the medicines of its Consumer Health and Pharmaceuticals divisions in Germany [4]. When the BepanCare name was introduced is not documented.

The product sits inside the wider Bepanthen family, a range built around dexpanthenol. On the Bepanthen website, BepanCare Narben-Gel is listed in the same product menu as Bepanthen Wund- und Heilsalbe (a wound and healing ointment), an antiseptic wound cream, eye and nose ointments, eye drops, a cooling foam spray and a seawater nasal spray [1]. A second product with a shortened "Bepan" prefix, BepanGel Wundgel, also appears in that menu. The description text of the product page refers to the gel as "Bepanthen Narben-Gel", which suggests the two names are used side by side [2].

## Philosophy & positioning

Bayer positions the gel narrowly: it is meant for scars, and specifically for the red, raised kind known as hypertrophic. The product page introduces it as "the modern aid" for flatter, paler and softer scars, and says it can be used on fresh scars once the wound has closed and on older scars as long as they are still red and raised [2]. According to the company, the gel was developed on the basis of the latest scientific recommendations on scar formation and care.

The brand's approach leans on the idea that early care matters. Bepanthen's scar-care pages explain that a scar keeps changing for up to two years after an injury, and that this period is when it can be treated [3]. The same pages describe silicone gels and silicone patches as products that can help prevent excessive scarring, and suggest massage for older, more settled scars. BepanCare packages both ideas, silicone and massage, into one product.

Bayer's materials also draw a line between two kinds of raised scar. A hypertrophic scar stays within the borders of the original wound, while a keloid grows beyond them. The company advises that either should be assessed by a professional if it causes discomfort or develops in an unclear way.

The product page carries the hashtag #MeineNarbeMeineGeschichte ("my scar, my story"), linking the product to personal accounts of living with scars.

## Products & innovation

BepanCare Narben-Gel is the only product sold under the name. Bayer describes it as working in three ways. The silicone forms a thin film that seals the scar and keeps the new skin from drying out. Dexpanthenol, a moisturising ingredient, helps by binding water in the skin. The massage roller is meant to make the scar tissue smoother, flatter and softer over time [2].

The usage instructions separate the gel from the roller. The gel can go on as soon as the wound has closed, including on the face as long as the eye area is avoided. The roller should only be added once the scar is at least a month old, when the tissue is sturdier and less likely to reopen. Users are told to roll first and then apply a thin film of gel, twice a day for at least two months, and to reapply after bathing, showering or heavy exercise. The gel should dry fully before clothing goes on.

Bayer says the gel suits adults and children from the age of three, with children supervised by an adult. The company also notes that it contains no colourants, which it says makes it particularly well tolerated by sensitive skin [2]. Those are the brand's own claims; no third-party certifications are documented.

## Science & innovation

Much of what is publicly known about BepanCare comes from a clinical study that Bayer announced from Leverkusen on 17 August 2026 [4]. The study followed 55 adults and children aged three and over, all with immature hypertrophic scars between one and twelve months old. Participants massaged the scar with the built-in applicator and then applied the gel twice a day for eight weeks.

Scars were assessed at the start and after 56 days using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), a validated tool in which both a clinician and the patient rate the scar. Bayer reports that the total POSAS score fell by 23.7 percent, roughly a quarter, and that ultrasound measurements showed a significant reduction in scar thickness [4]. According to the release, the clearest changes were in redness, surface texture and suppleness, and participants themselves reported better colour and thickness. No product-related adverse reactions were observed.

The study's limits are stated in the same release. It was a single-centre, open, exploratory study with one group and no control group, so the results apply to eight weeks of use under those conditions and should be read with that design in mind [4]. The work was published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science in 2026 under the title "Enhancing scar appearance: Results from a cosmetic clinical study on dexpanthenol-containing silicone gel and massage ball in adults and children".

Bayer framed the inclusion of children as a contribution to a thin evidence base, noting that relatively few studies on scar management in children exist. It cited a recent review of paediatric scar care that describes silicone gel or sheets and scar massage as possible early steps after a wound closes, and literature that treats silicone products as a complementary option for active hypertrophic scars.

## Current status

BepanCare is active. BepanCare Narben-Gel is listed in the current product menu of the Bepanthen website [1], and Bayer's press release of August 2026 reported new study data on the gel [4]. The product is marketed by Bayer's German subsidiary; sale in other countries is not documented.
