Bioxcin is a Turkish hair-care brand best known for its anti-hair-loss shampoos and serums. It belongs to Biota Laboratories, a plant-based health and beauty company based in Istanbul, and was introduced into the pharmacy channel in the mid-2000s. The brand describes itself as the first to be positioned as a "hair loss specialist" in pharmacies, and it has built most of its range around BioComplex B11, a herbal extract developed in Biota's own laboratories.

Over time Bioxcin has grown from a small hair-loss line into a broader hair-care portfolio, with a secondary skin-care range added in recent years. The brand runs market websites in Turkey, Germany and the United Kingdom and, by its own account, exports to more than 40 countries. It remains active.

## Origin & founders

Bioxcin was created inside Biota Laboratories (Biota Laboratuvarları), a company founded in Istanbul in 2002 together with its research and development laboratories. The brand's German site says Bioxcin was founded in 2006 "with 100% Turkish capital" [7], and the brand's pages in Germany, Turkey and the United Kingdom all give 2006 as the year of its launch [2]. Biota's own corporate timeline, however, dates the brand's entry into the pharmacy market to 2005 [10]. This article follows the brand's own 2006 date; the earlier year may reflect a first pharmacy listing ahead of the formal launch.

No individual founder is named in the company's published history. Bioxcin is presented throughout as a Biota creation, developed by the group's scientists and supported, in the company's words, by Turkish scientists and dermatologists drawing on the plant life of Anatolia.

The idea behind the brand was narrow from the start. Rather than offering a general shampoo range, Bioxcin was set up as a specialist hair-loss line sold through pharmacies. According to the company, that focus made it the first brand in the Turkish pharmacy channel to take on the "hair loss specialist" label, and it says its shampoos have been among the best-selling hair-loss shampoos in that market since launch.

## History & milestones

Bioxcin arrived a few years into Biota's life. The parent company had launched its first pharmacy brand, Bioder, in 2004, and Bioxcin followed shortly after. In 2008 Biota began building a new factory, and over the next few years it added further brands for both pharmacies and supermarkets.

The central development in Bioxcin's story is BioComplex B11. The brand says the extract took four years of research and development at Biota's laboratories. In 2011, according to the brand, a clinical study at the University of Pavia in Italy tested shampoo and serum containing the extract. The same year, Biota expanded into the American market at company level.

After the hair-loss range was established, Bioxcin moved into general hair health, with lines for damaged, dry, fine and dandruff-prone hair. One of these, the Aquathermal series, is made with Turkish thermal spring water; the brand describes it as the first product line of its kind in Turkey, although it does not give a launch year.

From 2020 onward, the company says, Bioxcin widened its research beyond hair into food supplements and skin health. The German market site now carries a small skin-care range under the Skin Expert and Age Reverse names alongside the hair products.

## Ownership

Bioxcin is owned by Biota Laboratories, whose legal name in Turkey is given as Biota Bitkisel İlaç ve Kozmetik A.Ş. [5]. Biota is headquartered in the Sancaktepe district of Istanbul [9], and its research centre and production are also in Turkey. The company calls Bioxcin one of its largest brands.

The German website is operated by a separate company, B'IOTA Laboratories GmbH, registered in Düsseldorf [8]. That address appears in the site's footer and legal notice, but the notice itself does not describe the ownership link between the German company and the Turkish parent. The brand's origin, ownership and manufacturing all point to Turkey.

Biota runs its brands across two channels. Alongside Bioxcin, its pharmacy brands are Bioder, Biobaby and the supplement brand Nutraxin, while Bioblas, Restorex and Proxentin are sold through supermarkets, chain stores and perfumeries. Biota says its pharmacy brands are stocked in more than 24,000 pharmacies across Turkey. No acquisitions or changes of ownership involving Bioxcin have been reported.

## Philosophy & positioning

Biota frames its work as a partnership between nature and science. Its about page starts from the idea that the human body and the soil are both made up of 59 elements, and the company says it set out to turn the plants of Anatolia into health and beauty products with the help of Turkish scientists and dermatologists. The same "59 elements" line appears in Bioxcin's own marketing, and Biota says its aim is to offer fully plant-based solutions.

Bioxcin applies that approach to one problem in particular. The brand positions itself as a pharmacy hair-loss specialist, and its German homepage carries the tagline "leading brand, recommended by dermatologists and pharmacists". Both the "leading" description and the recommendation are the brand's own wording. On its German and Turkish about pages, Biota also calls itself the market leader in Turkey.

The German site includes a few tools that fit this clinical positioning, among them a hair-analysis page and an authenticity check for products. The brand also publishes a statement that it will not contractually or in practice stop resellers from selling its products on any website, including online marketplaces.

## Products & innovation

Hair care is the core of the range, and hair loss is the core of hair care. According to Bioxcin, six products in its hair-loss range are built on BioComplex B11.

The main lines are:

- **Klassik**, anti-hair-loss shampoos, including a version for oily hair.
- **Forte**, an intensive hair-loss routine made up of a shampoo and a serum. The brand says the Forte formula combines BioComplex B11 with procyanidin and honey, delivered with liposome technology, which packages ingredients inside tiny fat-based spheres.
- **Black Garlic** (Schwarzer Knoblauch), a shampoo for thinning and weakened hair.
- **Keratin & Argan**, a four-step repair routine for damaged hair using hydrolysed keratin and argan oil.
- **Collagen & Biotin**, a line for fuller, more voluminous hair.
- **Aquathermal** (Aqua Thermal), the thermal-water anti-dandruff series.
- **Nourishing Oils** (Pflegende Öle), a shampoo for dry and damaged hair with oil from nine flowers, vitamin B5 and BioComplex B11.
- A **brow and lash serum**, listed under hair care.

The skin-care side is smaller. Its Skin Expert line includes a serum with 5% collagen aimed at wrinkles and a serum with 3% hyaluronic acid for moisture, and an Age Reverse range sits alongside it.

On manufacturing, Biota says it produces in 35,000 square metres of GMP-compliant facilities (GMP being the international "good manufacturing practice" standard) with several hundred employees, and describes them as the largest such plants in Turkey. The brand states that it holds ISO 22000, halal and kosher certificates. No cruelty-free or vegan certification has been reported for the brand.

## Science & innovation

BioComplex B11 is the brand's defining ingredient. Bioxcin describes it as a herbal extract developed by Biota scientists and found only in Bioxcin products. Its product page lists plant extracts including daisy, nettle, yarrow and carob among its components.

The extract's patent status is described differently depending on the language. The German pages and homepage call BioComplex B11 "patented" [3], while the Turkish about page says a patent application has been filed [13]. The German about page likewise speaks only of a filed patent. No patent number is published on the brand's pages.

The brand's main efficacy claim comes from the 2011 study it attributes to the University of Pavia. According to Bioxcin, using the shampoo and serum together reduced hair loss by an average of 93% after six months, compared with 86% for the shampoo alone [3]. The Turkish site adds that the extract's effect has been proven by independent testing institutions, without naming them.

Bioxcin's clinical-studies page presents further headline figures for individual lines: "up to 100%" less hair loss for Forte, up to 98% more fullness after the first wash for Collagen & Biotin, up to 94% repair for Keratin & Argan, and up to 100% effectiveness against dandruff for Aquathermal [4]. The page gives these as percentages only, without participant numbers, study length or the institution that carried out the tests.

The brow and lash serum shows how such figures can be sourced. Its product page reports that users had 87% thicker and 74% stronger lashes, and that 70% saw less lash loss. A footnote on the same page explains that these results come from an ingredient supplier's placebo-controlled study of a mascara containing Widelash, with 30 women over 30 days, rather than from a test of the Bioxcin serum itself [14].

## Current status

Bioxcin is active. As of September 2026, its German market site was live and was promoting new products, including a Men+ Sport shampoo against dandruff and hair loss and a nourishing shampoo in the Nourishing Oils line [1]. Market sites also operate in Turkey and the United Kingdom.

The brand is sold mainly through pharmacies. Bioxcin's German and Turkish pages say it exports to more than 40 countries [2], while Biota's corporate site gives a figure of about 65 countries for the whole company, not only Bioxcin [11]. Both figures are self-reported.
