Carl Kling Parfums is a Swedish niche fragrance house based in Stockholm, named after its founder, Carl Kling. The company dates its establishment to 2022 [2], and its first perfume, Clary Fig, was reviewed by Fragrantica in March 2023 as the debut of "a new brand from Sweden" [9]. Both of its first two fragrances were composed by the French perfumer Antoine Lie, and both are built around the same raw material: the fig.

The house is small and founder-run. Its range consists of two eaux de parfum, presented together as The Fig Collection, matching body lotions, travel sizes and a discovery set. In late 2025 it announced a second creative partnership, with the perfumer Michael Nordstrand, as the start of a new collection. The brand is active.

## Origin & founders

Carl Kling did not come to perfume from the fragrance industry. According to a 2025 Fragrantica profile, he is an engineer by trade who, around 2022, felt drawn toward a more creative and sensory kind of work [10]. Having learned about Antoine Lie, he contacted the perfumer directly and, to his own surprise, received a reply. After he explained what he had in mind, the two began working together.

Fragrantica's Nicola Thomis described the decision to approach an established perfumer as an idea that many small new brands might shy away from because of the practical hurdles, and portrayed Kling as quiet and softly spoken, with a brand "born out of love for the medium" rather than a wish to make money fast [11]. The same writer placed the company among small, determined Stockholm houses that develop more slowly than larger players.

The company's own website does not describe Kling as a founder in so many words. Its journal posts are signed by him, and he has represented the house in person at trade fairs, where Fragrantica observed him talking with visitors about the brand and its perfumes. No parent company or outside investors are documented.

Antoine Lie is a French perfumer whose earlier work, as CaFleureBon has noted, includes Wonderwood for Comme des Garçons, Sécrétions Magnifiques for Etat Libre d'Orange, and White and MV2Q for Puredistance [12]. Carl Kling Parfums presents him as an independent creator who works outside the constraints of traditional perfume houses.

## History & milestones

The collaboration with Lie ran, according to the brand, between 2022 and 2024, during which both Clary Fig and Fig Nuit were developed [3]. Clary Fig was the first to reach the public. Fragrantica's review by Eddie Bulliqi, published on 7 March 2023, treated it as the launch of a new house and read it as more complex than a standard single-note fig.

Fig Nuit, the darker companion, is listed by Fragrantica with the year 2024. It reached a wider trade audience in September 2025, when the brand exhibited at Pitti Fragranze in Florence, a niche perfume fair. There Kling presented Fig Nuit alongside a new line of body lotions scented with the house's two fragrances [10]. In the run-up to these releases the brand published short video interviews with Lie, and a documentary titled *Behind the Scent* follows the perfumer's career and his work with the company.

The autumn of 2025 was busy. In October the brand published an interview with Michael Nordstrand and announced that their creative collaboration marked the beginning of a new fragrance collection [5]. Later that year the company took part in two Stockholm events: the first Stockholm Beauty Week and Polaris Olfactive Week, a gathering the brand says brought together more than 50 perfume houses from 25 countries. In December 2025 it named elderflower as the hero note of the first release in the Nordstrand collection [4].

## Philosophy & positioning

The company sums up its purpose in one line: it was established "to cherish the art of fragrance and honor creators". Its tagline, "Honoring Creators", follows from that idea, and the perfumer is placed at the centre of how the brand presents itself, with Lie featured by name on the homepage and on a dedicated creators page.

Carl Kling Parfums describes its perfumes as expressions of simplicity, naturalness and craftsmanship, and links these values to what it calls its Scandinavian heritage. It says it gives artistry time and space, working closely with perfumers until their vision is fully realised, and sums up the approach as "No deadlines. No compromises." A fragrance, in the company's telling, is released only when craft and vision line up.

The same thinking shapes how the brand talks about Lie. It stresses that he works without intermediaries and free of consumer testing and market-driven re-releases, so that each perfume can take the time it needs. Outside commentators have picked up on this framing. Fragrantica's 2023 review linked the brand's inspiration to Scandinavian minimalism and avant-garde art.

Michael Nordstrand, the second perfumer, brings a different background. In the brand's interview he explains that he worked as a visual artist and illustrator before studying perfumery, that his education included fashion, and that the couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga taught him the value of form and structure. He describes his own style as methodical and technical, but also emotional, and says his Scandinavian roots show in a love of nature and the outdoors.

## Products & innovation

The house's work so far amounts to one idea explored twice. The brand presents The Fig Collection as "one note, two perspectives": Clary Fig as the fresh, daytime reading of the fig, and Fig Nuit as its dark, ripe counterpart.

**Clary Fig** pairs fig with clary sage, an herb with a lavender-like, slightly leathery character. Its listed notes are lemon and caraway at the top, clary sage, fig and milk in the heart, and musk and sandalwood in the base. Reviewers have focused on how the sage, rather than the fig, leads. CaFleureBon's Oli Marlow wrote that Lie's emphasis sits on the "clary" part of the name, and that the green, fougère-like direction steers the scent away from easy comparisons with other fig perfumes [12]. Bulliqi likened the construction to the "deconstructed" style in fine dining, with the fig's facets laid out separately for the wearer to piece back together.

**Fig Nuit** moves toward the evening. Its notes run from blackcurrant and violet, through a ripe fig accord with davana, osmanthus and orris, to a base of patchouli, milk and vanilla. Lie has described the aim as something dark, juicy and sensual; he chose osmanthus for its mix of apricot and leather tones and added orris because it suited the composition. Thomis noted that the two perfumes feel as though they come from the same house without being the same perfume, one brighter and more vertical, the other rounder and stickier [11].

The **body lotions**, introduced in 2025, carry the scents of both fragrances. The company says they contain 99.2% natural ingredients, including shea butter, glycerin and aloe vera [1]. The range is completed by 10 ml travel sprays and a discovery set holding samples of both perfumes. No third-party certifications, manufacturing locations or sustainability commitments are documented.

Beyond its own online store, the company lists a network of independent niche perfumeries in several European countries, the United States and the Middle East as retail partners [7].

## Recognition

The brand reports that Clary Fig won the "Best Perfume" award at the first Stockholm Beauty Week in 2025 [6]. No independent account of the award has been published.

Press attention has come mainly from specialist fragrance media. Fragrantica has covered the house three times: Bulliqi's 2023 review of the debut, which he described as "a buzzing, bustling, restless portrait of a fig tree in the wild"; Bella van der Weerd's October 2025 report from Pitti Fragranze; and Thomis's comparative review of both perfumes later that month. Thomis had first met the house at Polaris earlier in 2025 and again at Pitti, and called it impressive for such a young house. CaFleureBon reviewed Clary Fig in September 2025, after the writer found the perfumes at an independent boutique in Brighton, England; the samples used for the review were supplied by the brand.

## Current status

Carl Kling Parfums is active. Its most recent journal post, from December 2025, announced elderflower as the focus of the forthcoming Nordstrand release, and its website in 2026 continued to offer The Fig Collection alongside the body lotions, which it marks as new.
