Cousin.E.S (also styled Cousin.e.s) is a French haircare brand created by the singer-songwriter Slimane in partnership with Groupe Bogart, the family-owned French perfume and cosmetics group. Built around organic nigella oil, it was launched in November 2022 with three products aimed at dry, curly, frizzy and coily hair and at sensitive scalps. Bogart announced the partnership in September 2022, describing Cousin.E.S as the first haircare brand in its fragrance and cosmetics portfolio [5].

The brand is currently dormant. It still appears among Groupe Bogart's brands and in the group's 2024 annual report, but no new products, launches or press coverage have been documented since December 2022, and its own website could not be reached in October 2026.

## Origin & founders

Slimane has traced the idea back to a family remedy. In an interview with Paris Match Belgique, he said he had suffered from psoriasis since early childhood and that his mother had always treated it with nigella oil, also known as black seed oil [8]. During lockdown, applying the oil to his scalp, he noticed what he described as its benefits for the hair. To ELLE Belgique he framed it as a beauty recipe handed down from his grandmother, part of a cultural inheritance he says he received from his grandmother, mother and aunts.

From there the project moved quickly. Slimane said he soon met the team at Groupe Bogart, which he identified as the owner of the April perfumery chain, and that he did not want a purely marketing-driven celebrity product. According to his account, the range came out after roughly three years of research.

Accounts differ on who helped Slimane develop the brand. Bogart's 2022 announcement names only Slimane, acting through his company Odyssée Cosmetics, as its partner [5]. Paris Match Belgique quotes him naming his manager, Mickaël Miro, as the person he first discussed the idea with [8]. ELLE Belgique, in a parenthesis within the same launch coverage, states that Slimane partnered with Michael Cohen [7]. No source links the two names, and neither is publicly confirmed as a co-founder.

## History & milestones

On 22 September 2022, Groupe Bogart announced that it had signed a partnership with Slimane to create and distribute what it called his first-ever natural haircare brand [5]. The first three products, a hair elixir, a shampoo and a hair balm, went on sale in France, Belgium and Luxembourg in November 2022. In the same announcement, Bogart said the range would later be introduced at selective fragrance stores in Dubai and in other European markets, and that new products would follow from 2023. As of October 2026, none of those later launches had been publicly documented.

The launch coincided with a busy period in Slimane's music career. Paris Match Belgique presented Cousin.E.S as one half of a "double news" moment for the artist, alongside his album *Chroniques d'un Cupidon*, released in September 2022. The magazine linked the two projects through his attachment to family, roots and sharing.

## Ownership

Cousin.E.S sits within Groupe Bogart, but as a licensed brand rather than one the group owns outright. Bogart's 2024 annual financial report states that its French subsidiary DISTRIBAL operates the licence contracts for two cosmetics brands: April, which belongs to the group, and Cousin.E.S [6]. The report does not say who holds the Cousin.E.S trademark; the partner named at launch was Slimane's company, Odyssée Cosmetics.

Groupe Bogart was created in 1975 by Jacques and Régine Konckier and is owned by David Konckier, according to the same report [6]. The group describes itself as an independent, family-owned company that designs, produces and distributes perfumes and cosmetics. Its brands division, Bogart Fragrances & Cosmetics, also develops Carven, Chevignon, Close, I Wanna Have, Méthode Jeanne Piaubert, Rose et Marius, Stendhal, Ted Lapidus and the group's own Bogart and April lines. A separate retail division operates a network of around 450 selective perfumeries and drugstores.

## Philosophy & positioning

Slimane has presented Cousin.E.S as inclusive, non-gendered haircare. He told ELLE Belgique that the aim was to create products for people with dry, curly, frizzy and textured hair, whom he described as often overlooked by the cosmetics industry. The name follows the same idea: in Paris Match Belgique, he explained that the team did not want to exclude anyone on the basis of gender or skin and hair type, and chose a warm word that also points to family.

ELLE Belgique described the range as high-end care intended to soothe and discipline the hair [7]. Slimane said the line would evolve with him and that he was not ruling anything out.

## Products & innovation

The opening range consisted of three products: the Elixir Capillaire (Hair Elixir), the Shampoing (Shampoo) and the Baume Capillaire (Hair Balm). All three are built around organic nigella oil, and Groupe Bogart presents Cousin.E.S as the first haircare brand enriched with organic nigella oil [3]. The group also describes the formulas as vegan and "clean", with more than 95% of ingredients of natural origin. No third-party certifications are documented.

At launch, the products were sold through Bogart's April perfumery chain and on the brand's own website. Slimane told ELLE Belgique that test results on the products had been very good, but no clinical study has been published.

## Recognition

No awards are documented. The launch was covered in French-language Belgian media, including an interview with Slimane in ELLE Belgique on 16 November 2022 and a feature in Paris Match Belgique on 7 December 2022.

## Current status

Cousin.E.S is dormant. Groupe Bogart continued to list it among its brands in October 2026 [3], and the group's 2024 annual financial report, signed on 29 April 2025, still names the licence operated by DISTRIBAL [6]. That report is the most recent documented sign of the brand. No new products, market launches or press coverage have been recorded since the December 2022 interviews, and the planned launches in Dubai and other European markets have not been confirmed. The brand's website, cousinescosmetics.com, could not be reached in October 2026. No source states that the brand has been discontinued.
