HEMCAEL is an Italian design house based in Milan, founded in 2018 by the artist Cael Pipin [2]. It began as a maker of handbags and a combined showroom and art gallery, and in 2023 it moved into perfume. Its fragrances, developed with the perfumer Chris Maurice, are sold in stainless-steel cases that the company calls "armors".

The house is small and founder-led, and it remains active. Its perfumes are distributed through its own Milan boutique and through a network of independent perfumeries and distributors in Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Most of what is publicly known about HEMCAEL comes from the company itself; independent coverage is limited to fragrance databases and retailer listings.

## Origin & founders

HEMCAEL is closely tied to the person behind it. Cael Pipin, described by the company as both founder and creative director, is presented first as an artist rather than as a businessman. The brand's history page says he set out to blend art, design and craftsmanship into "unique and exclusive pieces entirely made in Italy". The company also stresses that the link between the house and the artist goes beyond an ordinary creative partnership and shapes the brand's identity.

According to the company, HEMCAEL was founded in 2018 and opened its maison-gallery in central Milan the same year. A designer profile on the retailer Wolf & Badger has been reported to give an earlier date, saying the brand "was born in 2010" making bags to order, with the Milan gallery following in 2018 [13]. The two accounts may describe different things: the earlier date could refer to the founder's first bag-making activity rather than to the company in its present form. This article follows the brand's own founding date of 2018.

The space in Milan was central to the project from the start. The brand describes a modern, minimal interior split into two areas, one for the house's own creations and one for an art gallery. The gallery runs along a long nave reached through the preserved vaults of an early 20th-century convent [2]. Pipin himself oversaw the renovation, pairing contemporary furniture with the building's original features. The company says the showroom now covers about 250 square metres, including a 180-square-metre exhibition area, and that it quickly drew what it calls a highly selected clientele [7].

## History & milestones

For its first five years HEMCAEL was known for leather goods. The company's news archive records a smaller version of its Enigme bag, offered in leather or suede, in 2020. In 2022 it introduced an HCL monogram print and released its Era clutch in neon leather, finished with the brass HEMCAEL logo that would later reappear on its perfume cases. The brand describes the Era as defined by refined elegance and distinctive details.

The move into fragrance came in 2023. In the company's words, the house "expanded its universe" by entering luxury perfumery, creating unisex scents together with Chris Maurice [2]. The first line, Armis, comprised four fragrances: Abel, Horruit, Raris and Caelum. The brand's own launch posts for these perfumes are dated January and February 2023. The fragrance database Fragplace, however, lists all four as released in 2022 [12]. An earlier soft launch in late 2022 cannot be ruled out, but the company itself places its entry into perfume in 2023.

On 31 March 2023 the house held a presentation it called the "Corazze Show" at its Milan premises on Via Carlo Tenca, with Chris Maurice as guest of honour. The same year, according to the company, HEMCAEL Parfum appeared at Monte-Carlo Fashion Week, took on the Israeli perfumery Essence Boutique as a retailer, and sponsored a Klubart event at the Kube Hôtel in Saint-Tropez.

A second Corazze Show in March 2024 introduced the Armis Mundi collection. Over the following months HEMCAEL announced a run of distribution agreements: with The Collector Society in Mexico in March, with Gourmet Imports in Panama in May, and with The Perfume Land, a perfumery in Iran, in July [3].

In January 2025 the brand released the Armis Cor collection and two further perfumes, Sacrae and Spiritus. That February it announced it would present new fragrances at Esxence Milano 2025.

## Ownership

HEMCAEL trades through the Italian company Hemcael Srls, which is named in the legal footer of its website. No parent company or outside owner is named, and no acquisitions involving the brand are documented. The house appears to remain under the direction of its founder.

## Philosophy & positioning

HEMCAEL presents itself as a meeting point of art, fashion and fragrance. Its history page sums up the brand as a "fusion of art, fashion, and fragrances", and its showroom page reduces the founder's outlook to three words: research, contemporaneity and avant-garde. The same page carries a short slogan, "Hemcael changes habit."

The company places itself firmly at the luxury end of the market and leans heavily on the idea of Italian craftsmanship. A 2023 post on "Milanese craftsmanship" explains that each perfume bottle is enclosed in shaped stainless steel and finished with a three-dimensional logo in solid brass, a combination the brand presents as an expression of Italian workmanship [4].

Pipin has described his aims in personal terms. In a signed statement published by the company in 2024, he writes that his mission is to make people "possessed by fragrances capable of leaving an indelible imprint in your mind before they hit your skin" [5]. He calls the steel cases "Armors entirely made in Italy" and compares them to jewellery boxes holding natural essences. That statement applies the made-in-Italy wording specifically to the cases; where the perfumes themselves are compounded is not stated.

The language of armour runs through the whole fragrance line. The brand explains that "Armis" comes from the Latin word for armour and is meant to suggest strength, protection and nobility. The perfume names follow the same pattern, drawing on Latin words such as Caelum, Somnium and Aurum.

## Products & innovation

Fragrance is now the brand's main focus, although it continues to sell handbags. Its perfumes, which it calls Scented Armors, are grouped into several collections:

- **Armis** (2023): Abel, Horruit, Raris and Caelum, the house's first four perfumes.
- **Armis Mundi** (2024): Amantes, Glacialis, Ōtĭum and Deos. The company says the collection celebrates "the strength of the unique human being, who prevails over the elements of the universe". It describes Deos as an oriental fragrance and Ōtĭum as oriental, spicy and fruity.
- **Armis Cor** (2025): Aurum, Visio, Somnium and Adorem, introduced as "four fragrances, four stories, one singular soul". Visio, according to the brand, opens with tobacco and smoky notes.
- **Sacrae** and **Spiritus** (2025): two stand-alone eaux de parfum. The brand says Sacrae opens with blue chamomile, orange blossom, davana and melissa. Spiritus is described as opening with peach, blackcurrant, mint and lychee.
- **Armis Quadrivium**: Aura, Ignis, Atra and Aether, a further group of four shown on the brand's website.

A discovery set of the fragrances is also offered.

The newest products are what HEMCAEL calls olfactory sculptures, named Inanna and Enki and listed as sculptures "for the atmosphere", meaning they scent a space rather than the wearer. The company's homepage bills them as "the world's first olfactory sculpture" [1]. This is the brand's own claim; no independent assessment of it is known. By April 2026 the homepage was also promoting Aurum from the Armis Cor line.

Alongside the perfumes, the house keeps a range of bags, including the Enigme and the Era clutch. No third-party certifications, patents or clinical claims are documented for any of its products.

## Distribution

HEMCAEL sells directly from its Milan boutique and through a network it calls Official Armour Dealers [8]. Distributors are named in Mexico (The Collector Society), Panama (Gourmet Imports) and Israel (Essence Boutique). Retail partners are listed in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil and Iran.

Germany has by far the largest share of these stockists. Most are independent perfumeries, but the list also includes Douglas E-Commerce in Düsseldorf. In Milan, besides the brand's own premises, the perfumes are carried by Art Parfums Milano.

## Current status

HEMCAEL is active. The latest dated post in its news archive is from February 2025, announcing its appearance at Esxence. The website has continued to change since then: in April 2026 its homepage was updated with new material for Aurum and the olfactory sculptures, products that do not yet appear in the news section [1]. The site carries a 2026 copyright notice, and the brand maintains an Instagram account.

The house remains a small, founder-led niche business centred on its Milan maison-gallery. No editorial coverage in major beauty or fashion titles and no Wikipedia article about the brand are known.
