Karolin Van Loon is a Belgian label that pairs fine jewellery with a vegan beauty line, both created by and named after designer Karolin Van Loon. It began as a jewellery brand built around raw agate geodes set with diamonds, and in 2020 it added a nail polish collection whose shades were drawn from those same stones [9]. The beauty side has since grown into eye and lip products, hand care, a deodorant and an extrait de parfum.

The company describes its beauty range as vegan and cruelty-free, and frames both of its lines around a slow, deliberate way of buying. It remains an active, founder-led business, with new products and journal content published in 2026.

## Origin & founders

Before turning to jewellery, Karolin Van Loon studied architecture in Antwerp and worked for interior design firms, according to a 2020 profile in Marie Claire Belgium [10]. The label she later started carries her own name.

No source gives the founding year directly. In March 2020, ELLE Belgium reported that the designer was celebrating the fifth anniversary of her brand, which places its start around 2015 [9]. Marie Claire described the same occasion as the label's first jubilee.

On the company's About page, under the motto "Intuition is everything", the designer sets out how the jewellery is made. She says she visits the places where agate geodes are mined, meets the workers and picks the stones herself, then takes them in person to a diamond studio in Antwerp, where they are combined with finished diamonds [2]. She presents the contrast between rough agate and polished diamond as a picture of two sides of every woman: soft and feminine on one hand, powerful and charismatic on the other.

Marie Claire added that she works on a short-chain principle, without middlemen, and has used the same Antwerp workshop since the first day. In the magazine's reading, this lets her keep control over both quality and price.

The website also presents the business as Karolin Studio, and its Facebook page uses the handle "studiokarolin".

## History & milestones

The first beauty product was a nail polish collection called Les Couleurs de la Terre, launched to mark the label's fifth anniversary. It consisted of eight natural shades running from coral to deep red and black. ELLE described the polishes as fully vegan, hypoallergenic and "8-free", meaning they are made without eight ingredients considered harmful, such as formaldehyde [9]. The designer called the collection a tribute to the colour range of agate, stones she said still fill her with wonder because they formed in the earth millions of years ago.

Marie Claire noted further details of that launch. The shades were inspired both by the pastel and deep black tones of agate and by the women around the designer. The bottle's rounded corners echoed the organic shapes of her jewellery, and the polishes shipped in a satin pouch that could later be reused to store jewellery. The magazine also reported that the polishes were produced with a company that does not test its products on animals [10]. At launch, the collection was sold through the label's own webshop and a boutique in Antwerp.

In the years that followed, the beauty side widened well beyond nails. The company's beauty pages are now organised into nails, eyes, lips, care and fragrance, along with sets and gifts. By 2026 its beauty landing page was promoting a newly launched deodorant antiperspirant [3].

The label also runs a journal on its website. It features campaigns, creative collaborations and a recurring "Muse of the Month" series in which Karolin Van Loon profiles women whose work she admires.

In a March 2026 interview with Blanda Beauty, a German beauty retailer, she distanced the company from trend-driven marketing, saying it is not a TikTok brand and never will be [12]. She said she designs for all generations, noting that her daughter and her mother wear the same nail colours, hand cream and perfume. Asked where the brand would be in five years, she said she expected more products and a larger community, and was considering supplements, lip products and possibly a paint or colour collection.

## Philosophy & positioning

The company's stated approach rests on intuition and slowness. According to the About page, the label follows "a rhythm of our own", independent of fashion seasons, which it says gives it time to tell a pared-back story. The designer acknowledges that her jewellery is not cheap and asks customers to "buy fewer things with greater awareness" [2]. She argues that saving for and choosing a single piece makes it more valued and longer lasting.

Marie Claire Belgium placed her in this light as a sustainable jewellery designer and linked the label to the slow-fashion movement. The magazine described her designs as wearable, timeless pieces for the discerning modern woman.

For the beauty line, Karolin Van Loon has summed up the aim in a single sentence: the products are "designed to make people feel happy through a small touch of colour" [3]. She adds that each shade was designed with a story in mind, but that she hopes wearers will make a story of their own. The company presents its beauty range as a premium line sold alongside its fine jewellery, and describes its colours and textures as inspired by nature and by geodes.

## Products & innovation

Nail polish remains the centre of the beauty range. Shades carry a number and a name, such as 23 rouge éclipse, 42 Rouge Royale and 50 Rosé doux, and the company describes them as long-lasting vegan nail varnish. The system is completed by La Première Base Coat, Cosmic Top Coat and a polish remover called Terra Fresh Remover. In an interview with the retailer Muse & Heroine, the designer said she paints her own nails weekly and that the polish lasts a week or sometimes longer [11].

The Agate Hand Balm extends the geode theme into the packaging. The container is shaped like a geode, and its cap doubles as an applicator and a massage tool for the hands. The company says the fig-scented balm gives long-lasting moisture while protecting the skin's natural barrier.

Fragrance arrived as GEODE, an extrait de parfum sold in a version with a marble cap and promoted with the line "Discover the scent of a geode". A set called The scent wardrobe was also listed among the newer products. Other items in the range include the Secret Shadow Brush for eyes, 56 Hydra Glow and the Surf Deodorant Antiperspirant.

The brand's free-from claim has shifted over time. Coverage of the 2020 launch, and a later description by the independent retailer greenlane, called the polishes "8-free" [13]. The company's current website instead labels the beauty range "12-free", alongside badges for vegan, animal cruelty-free and natural [3]. The cruelty-free label is the company's own; no third-party certification is documented.

## Recognition

The 2020 nail launch drew attention from the Belgian fashion press. ELLE Belgium featured the collection in its "Hebben" column, and Marie Claire Belgium chose Karolin Van Loon as its weekly "Woman to watch", describing her as strong, creative and inspiring.

The company's website groups seven products under an "Award winners" heading, including GEODE, Terra Fresh Remover, 27 nail nectar and the Surf Deodorant Antiperspirant [5]. The specific awards are not named on the page.

## Current status

Karolin Van Loon is active. The company's webshop carries 2026 content and new launches, including the deodorant antiperspirant, and its journal published a "Muse of the Month" post on the storyteller Sophie Wolf in June 2026 [8]. The brand is also carried by independent beauty retailers outside Belgium, including in Germany. It remains a small, founder-led company, and no parent company or outside owner is documented.
