KLOTZ LABS is a German skincare brand built around hyaluronic acid. It was founded by the physician Dr. med. Rosemarie Klotz, and its face and body products are made in the company's own manufacturing facility in Germany. The brand sells through its own online shop and through selected pharmacies, and every product carries a German pharmacy product code. Alongside its own line, the company says it produces cosmetics as a contract manufacturer for more than 40 other businesses [2].

The brand is active. Its legal notice names PLEXUM GmbH of Nuremberg as the company operating KLOTZ LABS [5], while the brand places its production in the west of Munich. The company gives no calendar year for its founding; its own pages describe a history of "more than sixteen years" and, elsewhere, "almost two decades".

## Origin & founders

The founding story, as KLOTZ LABS tells it, begins in a doctor's practice. Rosemarie Klotz, a licensed physician, regularly saw how much the health and appearance of her patients' skin shaped their well-being. When she looked for skincare she could recommend to them, the ingredient lists of ordinary cosmetics raised more questions than they answered. According to the brand's founder story, she found too many unnecessary fillers, irritating preservatives and active ingredients in concentrations too low to meet her medical standards. KLOTZ LABS grew out of that frustration, with the stated aim of making formulas that support the skin's own functions rather than merely masking problems [3].

The company dates the start of this work in relative terms only. Its founder page says Klotz began systematically developing her own formulations "more than 16 years ago", and the homepage advertises anti-ageing expertise "for sixteen years". The about page speaks of an expert team that has been working on the project "for almost two decades" [2]. Read against pages current in 2026, these statements point to the late 2000s, but no source states an exact year.

Klotz still leads the brand's own team, according to the company, which describes her as overseeing each step from first concept to final filling.

## History & milestones

Much of the brand's account of its early years consists of claims to have been early to certain ideas. The homepage, written in Klotz's voice, says the company was among the first, almost two decades ago, to identify glycols as the only preservative a good skincare product needs; glycols are a group of moisture-binding compounds that also help keep a formula stable. The brand acknowledges that this route was more expensive but argues it was gentler on the skin [1]. It also says it was among the first to bring penetration systems, carriers designed to help active ingredients reach deeper skin layers, from pharmaceuticals into consumer anti-ageing products. A third claim concerns hyaluronic acid itself: the founder story credits Klotz with recognising early that hyaluronic acid fractions of different molecular weights act at different depths in the skin, from surface hydration to deeper moisture binding. None of these "first" claims has been independently confirmed.

Over time the company also became a manufacturer for others. It states that more than 40 national and international companies have their cosmetics produced by KLOTZ LABS under contract, using the same in-house laboratory and production line that makes its own range.

Between June 2019 and December 2021 the brand ran a German-language blog called "Wissenswertes" ("Good to know"). Its posts ranged from anti-ageing habits and the value of drinking water to explanations of hyaluronic acid and the brand's ingredient choices [7]. No new posts appeared after December 2021.

## Ownership

KLOTZ LABS is operated by PLEXUM GmbH, a company registered in Nuremberg. The brand's legal notice lists the operator as "PLEXUM GmbH · KLOTZ LABS" and gives Nuremberg as the company's registered seat, with the commercial-register number marked as being updated [5]. No published source describes PLEXUM GmbH further or explains when or how it came to run the brand.

Other records point to a different arrangement at some stage. The official Munich city portal lists a company named KLOTZ LABS Kosmetikmanufaktur GmbH in the Munich district of Perlach, classified under cosmetics [8]. That entry is undated. The brand itself describes its production as taking place in the west of Munich, whereas Perlach lies in the south-east of the city. The listing may reflect an earlier site or an earlier operating company, but no source describes a change of ownership or seat.

## Philosophy & positioning

KLOTZ LABS sums up its approach in the phrase "Wirkstoff vor Werbung", which translates as "active ingredient before advertising". The founder story explains this as giving priority to the formula and its actual benefit for the skin, publishing full ingredient (INCI) lists, and taking a strictly dermatological view in place of elaborate marketing promises. Anything that does not serve the skin, the company says, is left out. Its mission, in Klotz's words, is to give the skin "precisely the building blocks it needs" to find and keep its natural balance, with the goal of "lastingly good skin".

The brand presents itself as medical skincare suitable for pharmacies. Its products carry a Pharmazentralnummer (PZN), the identification number used for products sold through German pharmacies, and the company says its range meets the standards that pharmacists and dermatologists expect of skin-health cosmetics. The about page lists four values: sustainability, innovation, expertise and trust. It summarises the products as developed by doctors and recommended by pharmacists. The brand's FAQ goes further and describes the products as developed by dermatologists, while the founder story calls Klotz a licensed physician without naming a specialty.

The tone of the company's own copy is not always restrained. The about page describes the brand's aim as nothing less than a "revolution" in natural anti-ageing cosmetics, and the homepage presents its hyaluronic serum as the original that many have copied but none have matched.

## Products & innovation

The range covers face, neck, body and hand care, with hyaluronic acid at the centre of almost every formula. The company names hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and retinol (vitamin A) as its key ingredients. It describes its base formula, which it calls the "KLOTZ LABS Formel", as a combination of concentrated hyaluronic acid with absorption-enhancing substances and further active ingredients aimed at skin cells. The line is described as including plumping creams, restorative and pigment-reducing serums, and products for very sensitive skin.

Several products are presented as the brand's core. The 5 % Hyaluron Booster Serum is listed among the bestsellers. The Hyaluron Benefit Creme is labelled the company's "original product", sitting alongside a richer Hyaluron Benefit Plus Creme. The 15 % Vitamin C Booster Serum and the Contourista Serum complete the group of products the brand highlights. The shop also sorts its range by skin concern, from normal and dry skin to fine lines, uneven pigmentation, loss of firmness, and dry, sensitive skin.

Production follows what the brand calls a "handmade in Germany" model. According to the company, its own manufactory works to the IFS HPC standard (International Featured Standard Household and Personal Care), a certification scheme for product safety, quality management and hygiene in cosmetics production [3]. The brand states that all its products are tested for skin tolerance and for their potential to improve the skin's appearance, building on Klotz's clinical experience. It has not published the results of these tests.

Outside its own shop, KLOTZ LABS products appear in online pharmacy ranges; the German online pharmacy medpex, for example, lists the Contourista Serum and the Hyaluron Benefit Creme [9].

## Sustainability

KLOTZ LABS makes a number of environmental and ethical claims, and its own pages do not always agree on the details. The about page states that all raw materials for the brand's own line come from sustainable cultivation, that no substances of animal origin are used at all, and that production is as close to carbon-neutral as possible [2]. The more recent FAQ is more cautious: it says that a large part of the range is formulated as vegan and refers customers to individual product descriptions to check whether a specific product is fully vegan [4].

Fragrance shows a similar shift. A 2021 blog post said the brand does without fragrances [10], while the FAQ now says the company largely avoids synthetic perfumes and the fragrance allergens that must be declared on labels.

On animal testing, the 2021 blog post stated that all the brand's hyaluronic acid products are developed without animal testing. No third-party cruelty-free certification is documented. For packaging, the company says it relies on glass bottles and recyclable materials to keep plastic to a minimum. It also stresses that its whole value chain, from research and development to production and filling, takes place in Germany.

## Recognition

The recognition KLOTZ LABS cites comes from its own reporting. A December 2021 blog post stated that the magazines MADAME, SHAPE and GLAMOUR had covered its hyaluronic acid cosmetics, and that articles had also appeared in men's titles such as Men's Health. The same post said the Stiftung zur Förderung der Hautgesundheit, a German foundation for the promotion of skin health, had rated the brand's hyaluronic acid products "very good" throughout [11]. The post gives no dates or issue numbers for the press coverage and no year for the rating, and none of these mentions has been traced to an independent publication.

## Current status

KLOTZ LABS is active. In 2026 the brand runs a maintained online shop with current founder-story and FAQ pages, and its products remain orderable by their pharmacy product numbers. In early October 2026, several products in the shop were shown as sold out. The brand's own distribution is concentrated on its home market of Germany, through its web shop, which according to the FAQ also ships to other European countries, and selected pharmacies. The company lists no social media channels on its website.
