LediBelle is a Swiss skincare brand built around two local raw materials: whey from Appenzell goats and water from the Jakobsquelle, a spring near the spa village of Jakobsbad in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The brand belongs to Appenzeller Naturkosmetik AG, which, according to the company, Maximilian and Svetlana Schnorr founded in Jakobsbad in 2016 [4]. It sells face and body care aimed mainly at people with sensitive skin, and presents itself as "clean beauty" made in Switzerland.

The brand's story leans on an old regional custom. From the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, well-off visitors from across Europe travelled to the Appenzell region to bathe in whey for their skin complaints, and LediBelle frames its products as a modern continuation of that tradition. The brand remains active, with online shops for Switzerland and Germany.

## Origin & founders

According to the company's own account, the idea for LediBelle came from Albert Koch, an Appenzell native whose family had kept both the whey-cure tradition and the region's white Appenzell goat, a breed that has since become rare. Maximilian Schnorr, the son of a close friend of the Koch family, took up the idea of a modern, natural skincare line based on Appenzell goat whey and Jakobsquelle water. The company says he brought more than 15 years of experience running beauty brands internationally, and that he and his wife Svetlana founded Appenzeller Naturkosmetik AG together in 2016 [4].

Svetlana Schnorr's role in the brand's early years is described in personal terms. She was LediBelle's first model and face in its advertising, and, because she has sensitive skin herself, she is still among the first people to test new products. Today, the company says, she handles photography and the online shop, while Maximilian is responsible for marketing and sales.

The founding is told differently elsewhere. A 2018 feature in the Russian-language magazine RBC Style, marked on the page as promotional content and illustrated with press-office photographs, states that the businessman Albert Koch founded the brand "two years ago" [13]. In that telling, Koch had opened a goat's-cheese dairy in the Appenzell region in 1970, bred the rare Appenzell goats, and passed the business to his son almost thirty years later. Restless in retirement, he walked to the Jakobsquelle and came up with the idea of combining its water with the whey left over from cheese-making. The two accounts agree on the timing, since two years before 2018 is 2016, but differ on who founded the brand: the company credits the Schnorrs as founders and Koch as the originator of the idea, while the RBC Style piece names Koch alone.

Koch's family still plays a part in the business. The goat whey used in the products comes from his son Mathias and his family in Gonten, and the company says Albert Koch continues to contribute ideas for new products.

### The name

LediBelle's name joins a regional word with a French one. The company explains that "Ledi" is the Appenzell dialect term for the equipment used to obtain goat whey, while "Belle" stands for beauty [3]. The brand adds, with some humour, that the name also sounds like "beautiful woman". The RBC Style article gives the same explanation, describing "Ledi" as an old word for dairy tools and vessels known only in Appenzell.

## Ownership

LediBelle is owned and operated by Appenzeller Naturkosmetik AG, a company registered with the commercial registry of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden and based in Jakobsbad. The company's legal notice lists Maximilian Schnorr as chief executive [10]. Appenzeller Naturkosmetik AG is the brand's own operating company rather than part of a larger beauty group, and no acquisitions or sister brands are documented.

## Philosophy & positioning

LediBelle sums up its approach in a three-word tagline, "Natürlich. Wirksam. Hypoallergen." (natural, effective, hypoallergenic). Its stated mission is to carry the Appenzell whey-cure tradition into an effective skincare line suitable even for very sensitive skin, with products made in Switzerland from regional ingredients. The company describes its identity as "tradition without convention": traditional raw materials combined with laboratory-tested actives.

The brand places itself in the "clean beauty" category and draws a distinction between that label and certified natural cosmetics. In LediBelle's view, certified natural cosmetics focus only on how natural an ingredient is, even though some natural ingredients, such as essential oils, are common allergens. Clean beauty, as the company defines it, puts tolerance, sustainability and social responsibility first, and it calls this approach "natural cosmetics 2.0" [8].

In practice, this means the company avoids what it calls the "seven sins of skincare". It says its products contain no parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulfates, PEG (polyethylene glycol) or fragrance allergens, and that they are not tested on animals. LediBelle does not market its products as fragrance-free, however: it says it uses a hypoallergenic fragrance. Because the formulas rely on goat whey and goat butter, the range is not vegan. The no-animal-testing statement is the company's own; no third-party cruelty-free certification is documented.

The brand's stated principles also include fair working conditions, short supply routes and local production, and the use of upcycled raw materials.

## Products & innovation

The range covers facial care, cleansing and body care, along with sets and a small "home spa" line. On its home page the company highlights an eye cream (Augencreme), a cell-building serum (Zellaufbauendes Serum), a rich moisturiser (Reichhaltige Feuchtigkeitscreme) and Sun Drops SPF 50 among its best-selling products. Other products include a revitalising body milk, a cleansing gel, a nourishing wash milk for skin, hair and hands, a face mask and a konjac cleansing sponge. In 2026 the home page was led by a whey-and-enzyme peel (Molke-Enzym-Peeling) made with lactic acid and natural enzymes.

### Key ingredients

Goat whey is the core ingredient across the range. The company says it contains vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, the minerals calcium, sodium and magnesium, and naturally occurring coenzyme Q10, and credits it with supporting skin renewal. Jakobsquelle spring water, the second signature ingredient, is described as rich in sodium, calcium and magnesium. LediBelle also describes it as "living" water that passes its "vibration pattern" on to the products.

Several products include Alpine goat butter. According to the company, it is made by hand each summer by Beni Hollenstein on the Alp Rainhütten, a mountain pasture at 1,438 metres. Other listed ingredients include hyaluronic acid, Edelweiss stem cells grown in the laboratory, aloe vera, avocado, jojoba, moringa and shea oils, and panthenol (provitamin B5). The brand also uses two branded ingredients from outside suppliers: Beautifeye, an extract of the silk tree (Albizia julibrissin), and Blueberry NECTA, which is made from blueberry skins as an upcycled material.

### Testing and efficacy claims

LediBelle says its products were tested by the Dermatest institute on 30 people with sensitive skin in a patch test, a standard method for detecting irritation or allergic reactions, and received a rating of "very good" [8]. This is a dermatological test result, not an ethics or organic certification.

The eye cream is marketed largely on claims for Beautifeye. On the eye-cream page, the company cites an in-vivo study of 24 women aged 40 to 79, using the ingredient twice a day for two months, which it says lifted the upper eyelids by up to 91 percent. The same page cites laboratory results showing large increases in collagen and elastin production [12]. The figures are presented differently on the brand's ingredients page, which describes eyelid lifting of 20 to 91 percent, reduced crow's feet and lighter dark circles, and attributes them to an "in-vitro test with 105 women" aged 40 to 60 [7]. In both cases the data concern the supplier's ingredient rather than a study of LediBelle's own finished product.

## Sustainability

Upcycling is central to how the company describes its environmental approach. Its main ingredient, Appenzell whey, is a by-product of cheese-making, which LediBelle says it turns into a valuable active ingredient. The company states that all production takes place in Switzerland, in partnership with manufacturers that share its approach [5].

On packaging, LediBelle says it aims to use recycled plastic wherever possible and already reaches 100 percent recycled plastic on some products. It also reports using labels made from stone paper, a paper-like material made mainly from mineral powder, and paper certified under the FSC or Blue Angel (Blauer Engel) schemes. The company says it offsets its carbon emissions in full and ships orders with the Post's "pro clima" service. It also presents its use of whey from Appenzell goats as support for keeping the rare breed alive.

## Recognition

No awards are documented for LediBelle. The brand's own press page and product pages show magazine coverage from Switzerland and Germany, including Brigitte (December 2019), Bild der Frau (January 2020), Schweizer Familie (August 2020) and ELLE (November 2021), as well as BUNTE and Schweizer Illustrierte [9]. Scans shown on the serum page feature the Zellaufbauendes Serum in NZZ Stil and Gala Schweiz in 2019, in Cosmopolitan, and in Freundin in May 2024 [11]. These items are presented by the brand itself, and their content has not been independently verified. The 2018 RBC Style feature, the only third-party article located, is labelled as promotional.

## Current status

LediBelle is active. As of 2026 the company runs online shops for Switzerland and Germany and also lists physical stockists through a store locator on its website [1]. Customer reviews on the site come mainly from Switzerland and Germany, and its press coverage comes chiefly from Swiss and German magazines, reflecting a brand focused on German-speaking Europe.
