Megasol Cosmetic is a German cosmetics manufacturer based in Föhren, Germany. The business traces its start to 1987, when Peter Kertels, still its managing director, began making sun-care cosmetics in Trier [2]. It is best known today for personal lubricants sold under its EROS® label, and the company says it created the world's first silicone-based lubricant, EROS® Bodyglide®, while developing a silicone-containing skincare line [2].

Alongside its own brands, which also include LYLOU® and Megasilk®, Megasol Cosmetic makes products for other companies as a private-label and contract-filling partner. A small range of skincare ampoules and body sprays sold under the Megasol name keeps a link to its cosmetics roots. The company is active, and its website was updated in September 2026.

## Origin & founders

Megasol Cosmetic began as a sun-care business. According to the company's own history, Peter Kertels started manufacturing what it calls high-quality solar cosmetics in Trier in 1987 [2]. The company does not describe him as a founder in so many words, but its account of its beginnings centres on him, and he remains the managing director named in its company details.

The turn that came to define the business happened inside that early cosmetics work. While developing a care series that contained silicone, the company says, it arrived at a silicone-based lubricant, which became EROS Bodyglide. Megasol presents this product as the first lubricant of its kind anywhere in the world. That claim comes from the company itself; no independent source confirming it has been identified.

Over the following years, the product that grew out of a skincare experiment would come to shape how the company describes itself.

## History & milestones

The early years were marked by steady expansion. Rising demand and a widening range of business activities led the company to create new and larger production capacity in 1992. Two years later it began the work that now anchors its identity: Megasol says it has developed and produced its lubricant since 1994 and describes it as one of the best-selling lubricants in the world [4]. Its EROS brand page makes a similar point, calling EROS a leading lubricant brand since that year. These are the company's own descriptions, not independently measured rankings.

Continued growth eventually outpaced the company's premises. At some point after leaving Trier, the business was operating from premises in the centre of Schweich. Those rooms became too small as well. After what the company calls a short planning and construction period, it moved in 1997 into a new administration and production building in the Föhren industrial park [2]. Megasol notes that the site has good road connections to several motorways.

Föhren has remained the company's base since then. Its registered address is in the industrial park there, at Jean-Monnet-Straße [11], and production is carried out on the same site. The company does not give a date for its move from Trier to Schweich, and it has not published a detailed timeline of the years after 1997.

## Philosophy & positioning

Megasol Cosmetic describes itself as a manufacturer of cosmetics and intimate-care products, and as a "Spezialbetrieb", a specialist operation offering the skill and flexibility of a specialised producer. Since the move to Föhren, the company says, it has developed, through brands such as EROS, LYLOU and Megasilk, into one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality cosmetics and intimate-care products [3]. As with its other comparative claims, this is Megasol's self-assessment.

The company places quality and reliability at the centre of how it presents itself. It says it sources raw materials from selected and exclusive suppliers so that customers can rely on what it calls proven Megasol quality. According to the company, constant innovation in production and filling, the purity and safety of its products, and regular staff training are all essential to maintaining that standard. It also credits a dedicated and qualified team for its success.

Its stated goal looks outward. Megasol says it wants to remain a reliable manufacturer for both existing and new partners in the years ahead, and to meet the challenges of the global market alongside them. That focus on partners rather than end consumers runs through much of the company's own description, and it fits the large share of its work that is done for other brands.

### Private label and contract filling

A significant part of the business is private-label production and contract filling, known in German as Lohnabfüllung. The company offers to take a product "from formulation to finished end product", handling the whole process in-house [7]. It groups the service under four headings: flexibility, experience, quality and "Made in Germany".

The service is laid out in three stages. In product selection, clients can choose from Megasol's existing range of formulations or adapt one to fit their own brand, with advice on materials, packaging and product properties. In product design, the company offers primary and secondary packaging as well as bulk containers, and publishes a bottle portfolio showing the shapes, sizes and colours available. Clients decide how their label looks and whether the product comes in an outer box. In production and filling, Megasol points to an experienced team and modern equipment.

The company does not publish fixed terms. It says minimum order quantities vary by formulation, and that cost depends on the product, the packaging and the quantity ordered. Production time likewise depends on the product type, packaging and order size, and an estimate is given once all the details of an order are known.

## Products & innovation

Megasol's own range is built mainly around intimate care. Its product catalogue is organised into silicone-based, water-based and hybrid lubricants, a line named "Bio & Vegan" lubricants, stimulation and delay products, a "Fun" category, massage products, and cleaning and care products. The EROS brand carries the line "EROS® The True Love®", which also serves as the name of its social media accounts.

EROS Bodyglide remains the product the company's history is built around. The range now includes variants such as EROS Super Concentrated Bodyglide and EROS Toy Silicone Glide. The second of these addresses a common limitation of silicone lubricants: the company's guidance states that ordinary silicone-based lubricants should not be used with silicone toys, because they can damage the material, and it recommends either water-based lubricants or EROS Toy Silicone Glide for that purpose [8].

The company's published guidance also sets out how its lubricant types differ. According to Megasol, silicone lubricants are based on silicone oil, tend to be thinner, stay slippery for longer and are harder to wash off. Water-based lubricants can add moisture and work with all toy materials but evaporate faster, while hybrids combine the two and are thicker than water-based versions. The company gives a shelf life of five years for its silicone lubricants and four years for its water-based and hybrid ones. It also notes that EROS Super Concentrated Bodyglide contains no water, so strictly speaking it has no pH value, and that it behaves as neutral.

### Cosmetics

The cosmetics side of the business continues under the Megasol name with skincare ampoules and body sprays. The company describes the ampoules as a way to care for the skin and to counter the skin's ageing process [6]. They come in packs of ten 3 ml ampoules, each variant built around one featured ingredient and matched to a skin concern:

- Hyaluron, for dry skin and fine lines around the eyes
- Elastin, for tired, mature skin
- Aloe Vera, for dry, irritated skin
- Caviar, for dry skin
- Native collagen, for mature skin and a softer-looking finish
- Vitamin A-E-F-H, for skin regeneration
- Ginseng, for skin that is not functioning normally

Three of these, Hyaluron, Elastin and native collagen, are also sold in smaller packs of seven 3 ml ampoules. The company says its cosmetics are formulated to nourish and moisturise the skin, for use during the day or at night.

No third-party certifications are documented for the company's products. The name "Bio & Vegan" appears as the title of a lubricant category, not as a claim covering the company's whole range.

## Recognition

Independent coverage of Megasol Cosmetic is sparse. The clearest example is a 2017 lubricant shopping guide published by Refinery29 in the United States, which listed several EROS silicone lubricants as sold through US drugstore chains [12]. The guide described one EROS silicone product as safe to use with latex condoms and called another a long-lasting, moisturising formula suited to sensitive skin.

The same guide labelled two of the products "Pjur Eros" and referred to the formula as "Pjur's" [12]. This differs from the company's own account, in which EROS Bodyglide is a Megasol product developed in-house as part of its early silicone skincare work [2]. Neither source explains the connection between the two names, such as whether it reflects a distribution or licensing arrangement in a particular market or period, so the relationship remains unclear.

## Current status

Megasol Cosmetic is active. Its website was republished in September 2026 [1], and its homepage news section features recent EROS products, including EROS Black Touch and EROS Fisting Powder. The company presents itself as a manufacturer facing the global market, and its reference list names retailers and distributors in several European countries, among them the German retailers Orion and Amorelie. On its EROS page, the company says its products can be bought both online and in specialist shops [5].

Peter Kertels is named as managing director, and the company continues to produce at its site in the Föhren industrial park, both under its own brands and for private-label clients.
