MythoSkin is a skincare line produced by mse Pharmazeutika GmbH, a family-owned German company based in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe [2]. The line is small, made up of six creams, gels and lotions, and most of them are built around coenzyme Q10. That compound is central to the parent company's work in what it calls mitochondrial medicine. MythoSkin sits beside a much larger range of food supplements, and mse presents itself first as a nutrient company rather than a cosmetics house.

When MythoSkin was introduced, and who developed it, is not documented. Its earliest dated appearance is a 2017 publication on skin care for people with atopic dermatitis, which used two of its creams [3]. The line is active, and its products are currently sold through the parent company's own online shop.

## Origin & founders

MythoSkin's story is in practice the story of its parent. mse Pharmazeutika was founded in 1992 in Bad Homburg by Dr. Franz Enzmann and his wife, Uta Enzmann [3]. The company describes itself as a mid-sized, independent family business, and Franz Enzmann still heads it as managing director [5].

Enzmann's background explains the company's long attachment to Q10. According to mse, he trained in natural-product chemistry at the universities of Erlangen and Heidelberg and then worked in the United States under Prof. Karl Folkers, whom the company credits with discovering ubiquinone Q10 [4]. The company says that this period, at the Stanford Research Institute and later the University of Texas, included the first use of Q10 in children and work on determining the structure of TRH, the first hypothalamic hormone to be decoded. He then spent 1969 to 1984 at Hoechst AG. mse also names Prof. Rolf Luft, whom it calls the father of mitochondrial medicine, as one of his teachers. By the company's account, Enzmann has worked to bring Q10 into prevention and therapy since 1967.

## History & milestones

A year after its founding, mse developed what it calls the MitoMed concept. This is a set of active substances, branded Mitoceuticals, intended to protect and support the mitochondria, the parts of a cell that produce its energy. In 1994 the company published its first clinical study on one of its Q10 products, which looked at endurance athletes. In the same year it extended its activities across the whole German-speaking region.

In 1999 mse launched SanoMit Q10, which it describes as the first liquid ubiquinone Q10 product, sold in very small droplets that it says the body absorbs faster than powder capsules [3]. The company later built on this. It now presents a nano-formulation technology, which it says became known through what it calls the world's first liquid Q10 [2].

Through the 2000s and 2010s the business grew outward. mse moved to its current premises on Nehringstraße in Bad Homburg in 2008. It also added distribution partners abroad: Poland in 2009, Taiwan in 2013 and Sweden in 2014, the last through the distributor Tiwa Care [3]. In 2012 it worked with Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen, under Prof. J. Bergemann, on the use of its QuinoMit Q10 fluid against skin ageing. That project concerned a supplement rather than MythoSkin, but it shows the company's interest in Q10 and skin before the skincare line appears in the record.

The first dated mention of MythoSkin itself comes in 2017. That year an observational study on caring for skin affected by atopic dermatitis, a common form of eczema, was published in the journal *Ästhetische Dermatologie*. It covered MythoSkin PflegeCreme and MythoSkin LiposomenCreme. An observational study follows how a product is used in everyday conditions rather than testing it against a control group. The company lists the publication among its milestones but does not summarise its findings there. 2017 was also the company's 25th anniversary, marked with a celebration on 31 August.

## Ownership

MythoSkin is not a separate company. It is one of several product ranges owned and sold by mse Pharmazeutika GmbH, which remains in the hands of its founding family. No acquisitions or changes of ownership have been documented, either for the line or for the parent.

Within mse, MythoSkin sits beside Q10 supplements such as QuinoMit and SanoMit, a range of vitamins and minerals, and the DentoMit oral-care products. The company says it has developed and produced more than 50 products over the years [1]. Its staff list includes a scientific department and a production team, with Dr. Mercedes Lopez heading both scientific work and production management.

## Philosophy & positioning

mse's stated philosophy does not start from the skin. The company says it does not aim its therapeutic attention at single organs such as the heart, liver or skin, but at the mitochondria, which it calls the power plants of the cells [1]. In that view, prevention and healing both begin with how well cells produce energy. MythoSkin carries the same Q10 focus into products applied to the skin, so the line reads as an outgrowth of the supplement business rather than a standalone beauty brand.

The company describes its mission as giving people more vitality and quality of life at every stage of life. Its listed values include "therapy instead of lifestyle", clarity about active ingredients, a pioneering spirit and scientific substance [6]. mse sets itself against what it calls empty marketing promises, and says Franz Enzmann has commissioned more than 40 studies to test and improve its products. No skincare-specific philosophy has been published for MythoSkin; the line is presented simply as Q10 skin care within this wider approach.

## Products & innovation

The current MythoSkin range has six products, and each is pitched at a different skin need [10]:

- **MythoSkin PflegeCreme**, a daily cream with Q10, described as suitable for all skin types.
- **MythoSkin HautGel**, a gel with Q10, intended especially for sensitive areas of skin.
- **MythoSkin LiposomenCreme**, which carries Q10 in liposomes and is aimed at oily and stressed skin.
- **MythoSkin LiposomenLotion**, a liposome lotion.
- **MythoSkin Q10 PflegeCreme mit Apfelstammzellen-Extrakt**, which pairs Q10 with apple stem cell extract and is aimed at mature skin.
- **MythoSkin B12 Intensiv PflegeCreme**, built on vitamin B12 and described as soothing heavily stressed skin.

Liposomes are tiny fat-based capsules used to carry an ingredient. Their use here links MythoSkin to the delivery technology that mse promotes across its supplement range, although the company does not state that its nano-formulation work applies to the skincare line specifically. Apple stem cell extract and vitamin B12 are the only other headline ingredients named for the range. No third-party certifications are documented for the products.

## Recognition

No awards are documented for MythoSkin. The press coverage that mse highlights concerns the parent company rather than the skincare line. In 2017 both *Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung* and *PraxisMagazin* reported on the company's 25th anniversary and its Mitoceuticals [8].

## Current status

MythoSkin is active. As of October 2026, all six products were listed in the skincare section of mse Pharmazeutika's online shop, two of them marked as bestsellers, and the parent company was still publishing new articles on its website [10]. The shop offers delivery settings for about 40 countries. mse also runs a separate channel for health professionals, with a practitioner login and a therapist search. Distribution of MythoSkin beyond the company's own channels is not documented.
