NatuGena is a German company that develops and sells dietary supplements, with its registered office in Ingolstadt [8]. It was started in 2018 by Alexander Martens, who registered the NatuGena trademark with a notary and ran the business from home before taking a first small office in Munich [2]. By its own account, the company has since grown to about 90 employees and a range of more than 300 products [2].

NatuGena describes itself as a family business. Its link to beauty is indirect: most of its catalogue consists of capsules, powders and liquids for general health, alongside an ingestible line it groups under skin, hair and nails, and a single care product of its own, an alkaline bath additive. The brand is active.

## Origin & founders

The company's own history page tells the founding story with some humour. Founder Alexander Martens, introduced there simply as "Alex", registered the trademark and started the business at home, which the company jokingly compares to the garage beginnings of other successful firms. The stated goal from the outset was supplementation of the highest possible quality.

In the summer of 2018 NatuGena moved into its first real office in Munich: 15 square metres of office space and 10 square metres of storage. According to the company, orders were still packed by hand and carried to the post office. The first employee joined that year and is named on the company's history page only as "Basti".

## History & milestones

Growth came quickly and is told largely through a series of moves. In 2019 the company relocated to Ingolstadt, into a 50-square-metre office with storage, while the range grew from seven to 20 products. A year later it moved again, into premises of 250 square metres, and the range reached 35 products.

A further move in 2022 made room for more staff and stock, and in 2023 the company opened a warehouse with 1,400 square metres of floor space. In 2025 the warehouse relocated to Großmehring, into a building of almost 3,000 square metres, about 2,700 of them given over to high-bay storage and order picking. The company says the new site was planned with environmental compatibility in mind and with the DGNB Gold green-building standard as a reference.

Leadership widened at the start of 2026. Gunnar Lindberg joined as a second managing director on 1 January 2026, with responsibility focused on organisational development [2].

## Ownership

NatuGena operates as NatuGena GmbH, a German limited company registered at the local court in Ingolstadt and legally represented by its two managing directors, Alexander Martens and Gunnar Lindberg [8]. No parent company, outside investor or acquisition is documented.

## Philosophy & positioning

NatuGena's tagline, "Wissen, wie Natürlichkeit Gesundheit schafft", translates roughly as "knowing how naturalness creates health". The company says its product development draws on micronutrient research and current studies, and that it aims for established doses. It sums up its approach in four quality principles: production to high standards, purity and transparency, branded raw materials, and high bioavailability, meaning how well the body can absorb a nutrient. A recurring theme is what the brand calls a pure-substance principle, under which most products are made without fillers, binders or colourants.

The stated mission is to help strengthen health awareness through science-based products that combine innovation, quality and fair pricing.

A scientific advisory board works alongside the management. It lists 18 members, among them the pharmacist Uwe Gröber, the professors Brigitte König, Michaela Döll and Jörg Spitz, several practising physicians, and three Heilpraktiker, a German category of state-licensed non-medical practitioners [6]. According to the company, the board provides professional guidance and brings perspectives from both research and practice.

Distribution runs through the company's own online shop and a partner channel aimed at health practitioners. NatuGena states that more than 20,000 therapists worldwide work with its products and that it ships to 50 countries [2].

The company also invests in sport sponsorship. It names the German Athletics Association (Deutscher Leichtathletik-Verband) as a premium partnership, alongside the Ingolstadt club ERC Ingolstadt, the Audi Triathlon Ingolstadt 2027, and individual athletes including Nina Reuter and Marvin Heinrich [9].

## Products & innovation

The range is organised by area of use rather than by product type. Categories include gut and digestion, the immune system, heart and metabolism, mitochondria and energy metabolism, sleep and relaxation, stress, cognition, and bones and joints. A separate epigenetics area includes a DNA test kit called yourEPI.

In 2026 the company's best-selling products, as shown on its homepage, were a Bioaktiver B-Komplex (bioactive B-vitamin complex), ZellEnergie, which combines 10 mg of NADH with 150 mg of coenzyme Q10, the magnesium blend Magnesia 7+1, a Mitochondrien Aktivator powder, and Q10 Ubiquinol in a 20 ml liposomal spray [1].

Many formulas are built around patented, trademarked raw materials from specialist ingredient suppliers. Examples the company highlights include Quatrefolic (a form of folate), Curcumin C3 Complex, PureWay-C, MGCPQQ, KSM-66 ashwagandha, AstaReal astaxanthin and Cognizin [4]. These are third-party ingredient brands; NatuGena does not claim a proprietary technology of its own.

The products most relevant to beauty sit in two places. The supplement area for skin, hair and nails includes ingestible collagen, biotin and hyaluronic acid products and a hair product called HairVolution. In topical care, the company's own line, NatuGena Care, consists of the BasenBad, an alkaline bath additive presented as an everyday product for the whole family. The creams, serums and cleansers that appear in the brand's cosmetics and wellness category, such as the tigoderm range, come from the partner brand TigoVit rather than from NatuGena itself [7].

## Sustainability

NatuGena's products are made in Germany by contract manufacturing partners, using raw materials sourced from around the world. The company states that these partners work to recognised standards including GMP (good manufacturing practice), ISO 22000 for food safety and ISO 9001 for quality management [4]. Those standards apply to the production partners rather than to the brand as a certification of its own.

The company says almost all of its products are vegetarian and most are vegan, and that the majority are free of lactose and gluten. It states that it neither conducts nor commissions animal testing for its supplements; no third-party cruelty-free certification is documented. NatuGena is also steadily adding products in organic quality, and its website carries the EU organic control code DE-ÖKO-006.

On operations, the company reports that its warehouse was built to be climate-neutral and runs on electricity from its own solar installation, and that used cartons are recycled in-house into packing filler.

## Current status

NatuGena is active. In October 2026 its website was publishing new content, including a blog article dated 9 October 2026 and a featured product of the month, and the company had expanded its management team at the start of the year. The site is available in German and English.
