OPTOLIND is a German skincare brand owned by HERMES ARZNEIMITTEL GmbH, a family-owned maker of over-the-counter health products based in Pullach im Isartal [2]. The range is small and built around one idea: creams matched to how dry or sensitive a person's skin is, most of them resting on high concentrations of vitamin E.

OPTOLIND has no website or social media accounts of its own. It exists publicly as an entry in the HERMES brand portfolio, where it is the only skincare line among products for vitamins, cold remedies and pain relief.

## Origin & founders

When OPTOLIND was created, and by whom, is not documented. HERMES gives no launch date for the line. Instead, the company says the formulas draw on "jahrzehntelanger Erfahrung", decades of experience, and that this long experience is reflected in the recipes [2]. No founder or developer is named.

The brand should not be confused with its owner's own history. HERMES itself was founded in Munich in 1907 by Franz Gradinger, who specialised in herbal teas and herbal medicines [1]. That date belongs to the company, not to the skincare line, and HERMES does not present it as OPTOLIND's starting point.

## Ownership

OPTOLIND is one of more than 30 over-the-counter brands in the HERMES ARZNEIMITTEL portfolio [1]. On the company's brand overview page it sits alongside products for magnesium supplementation, cold prevention, wound care, travel sickness and pain relief, and it is the only entry there described as skin care [2]. It is also one of several brands on that page without a link to a separate brand site.

HERMES ARZNEIMITTEL is part of the wider HERMES Group, which also includes HERMES PHARMA and Bad Heilbrunner. The company describes itself as a medium-sized family business and says it has been owned by the Johannes-Burges-Familienstiftung, a family foundation, since 2018 [1].

A 2019 profile in the German pharmacy trade publication apotheke adhoc fills in more of the owner's background. It reports that the company began in Munich as a tea manufacturer, moved to Großhesselohe in 1939, and traded under the name Nymphosan before being renamed Hermes in 1979. According to the same article, Johannes Burges had been sole managing partner since 1974 and placed his shares in a foundation bearing his name at the end of 2018 to secure the company's future, with the result that the business "ist unverkäuflich", meaning it cannot be sold [4].

## Philosophy & positioning

HERMES frames OPTOLIND as care tailored to the needs of individual skin types rather than a single product for everyone. The brand section on the company's site carries the heading "Optolind – Optimale Pflege für individuelle Ansprüche", which translates roughly as "optimal care for individual needs".

That idea shapes how the range is organised. HERMES groups the products into three series, for dry skin, very dry skin and sensitive skin, with a separate product for the eye area. Across the line, the company names three recurring building blocks: highly concentrated vitamin E, the ingredient Symcalmin® and what it calls skin-related lipids, meaning fats similar to those naturally found in the skin.

## Products & innovation

The core of the range is a set of vitamin E creams in rising strengths. According to HERMES, Optolind Creme is meant for the daily care of dry skin and contains 10% vitamin E, together with vitamin A, panthenol and bisabolol. Optolind Intensivcreme is described as a richer restorative cream for very dry facial skin, with 15% vitamin E. Optolind Salbe, an ointment, goes further, with 25% vitamin E aimed at extremely dry, rough or cracked skin [2].

An independent online pharmacy listing for the Intensivcreme names HERMES Arzneimittel GmbH as the manufacturer and gives the same 15% vitamin E figure, adding vitamin A, a high lipid content and urea to the description [5]. The same listing suggests using the Optolind Aufbau-Serum beforehand as an extra nourishing step, and names a sensitive-skin version of the Reichhaltige Creme among the brand's products.

The sensitive-skin series takes a different approach. HERMES describes Optolind Leichte Creme as a light, hypoallergenic moisturiser based on skin-related lipids and free of fragrance and potentially irritating ingredients. Optolind Reichhaltige Creme is presented as a more intensive moisturiser for sensitive skin that is prone to dryness. The fragrance-free description applies to these sensitive-skin products specifically; it is not made for the range as a whole.

The line is completed by Optolind Augenpflege, a cream developed for the delicate skin around the eyes. HERMES notes that it is suitable for people who wear contact lenses. It is a skincare product, not an eye drop.

No third-party certifications, patents or proprietary technologies are documented for the brand.

## Current status

OPTOLIND is active. As of October 2026, HERMES listed the brand with six products on its German brand overview page, and the Intensivcreme was shown as immediately available from a German online pharmacy [2][5].

The brand's visible presence is concentrated in Germany. It does not appear on the brand page of the HERMES sales company in Austria, which lists a different selection of the group's products [3].
