Peignee Paris (styled Peignée Paris) is a French maker of hair accessories, known mainly for its wide-tooth acetate combs. The range also includes barrettes, claw clips and hair picks, sold through the brand's own web shop and through wholesale to independent retailers. The business is run by PEIGNEE, a small simplified joint-stock company (SAS) created in May 2023 and based in Alfortville, a suburb just south-east of Paris [8]. The brand itself gives no founding year on its website.

The company calls itself a family house of hair accessories and traces its idea to a childhood memory of being combed by the founder's mother. It presents its pieces as everyday objects that should look good and last. Peignee Paris is active: new colourways were still being added to its range in September 2026.

## Origin & founders

The brand's origin story is told in the first person on its website, without naming the narrator. The founder recalls having very long, often tangled hair as a child. Every morning the founder's mother combed it gently and patiently, always with a wide-toothed comb so as not to break it. Years later, the founder wanted to recreate that moment of gentleness and closeness, but with tools of a more refined design [2].

An older line on the brand's homepage gives a plainer motive. There, the team describes itself as passionate about design and beautiful objects, and says it created Peignée to combine the useful with the pleasant. The same text invokes hairdressers, who, according to the company, agree that a comb is essential for detangling and for healthy hair.

The founders are not named on the brand's site, which describes the business only as a "maison familiale", a family house. One Danish stockist goes further and describes it as a small family business run by a mother and daughter in France [10]. The brand's own pages do not say this.

## History & milestones

The operating company was created on 24 May 2023 and registered with the trade and companies register in Créteil. The web shop opened with its first products a few weeks later. The earliest items in the catalogue date from 11 June 2023: the Peigne Signature comb in three colours (Ébène, Pop corn and Avoine), an emerald Peigne Voyage travel comb and a pair of emerald barrettes. Acetate hair picks followed in late November 2023.

The range widened in 2025. A Barrettes Signature line appeared in May, with product copy presenting it as "the hair accessory of 2025", and claw clips joined the catalogue that September.

In September 2026 the brand introduced a brown "Oxford" colourway across its combs, barrettes, claw clips and picks. Its homepage promoted the colour as part of a new autumn collection under the heading "Brown fall". By then the public catalogue held 137 products, most of them barrettes and combs.

## Ownership

No parent company or outside investor is documented. The trading name Peignée Paris belongs to Peignée, an SAS with share capital of €1,000 and its registered office in Alfortville. The company's legal notice names Philip Dahlen as its president, in which role he also serves as director of publication for the website [4]. He is not described there as a founder.

In the French company register, PEIGNEE is classed as a small or medium-sized enterprise whose main activity is specialised distance selling. Its headcount is not reported [8].

## Philosophy & positioning

Peignee Paris sums up its approach in the line "Là où la forme rencontre la fonction — avec élégance", meaning "where form meets function, with elegance". The company says it believes everyday essentials deserve to be beautiful. Each piece, it explains, is meant to be both practical and elegant, kind to the hair while turning combing into more of a ritual. Its English-language mission statement reads: "We design timeless accessories made to last, made to care, and made to be seen."

Three themes run through the brand's description of itself: attention to detail in every curve, thickness and finish; careful making with durable materials; and a team that presents itself as responsive and flexible. Its website title describes the accessories as high-end ("haut de gamme") [1], and durability is the point it returns to most often. In its own words, beauty should never come at the expense of comfort, and useful should never mean ordinary.

## Products & materials

The Peigne Signature is the brand's central design: a wide-tooth comb about 14 cm long with a wavy profile, which the company presents as its signature piece for daily use [14]. The smaller Peigne Voyage, under 9 cm long, is intended for handbags and is sold with a protective case. Barrettes come in pairs with gold-tone clips, in a standard and a Signature version, and are pitched as a way to frame the face before applying make-up or to finish a look.

The 17 cm acetate hair pick is designed for making a bun or a half-up style quickly. The brand offers it as an alternative to the pens people often use in their hair, which it says slip and damage the hair. Claw clips come in two shapes: a classic clip and a "side" version whose teeth are set slightly to one side.

All pieces are made of acetate. Peignee Paris says it develops its own custom acetate colours together with its manufacturing partner in China. According to the company, it works with a workshop it regards as highly skilled, and each piece is made entirely by hand [2]. The brand states that all its products meet international safety and quality certifications, but it does not name any specific certification.

Accounts of where the accessories are made differ. The brand's own page names its manufacturing partner in China, while the retailer Cissy Wears describes the pieces as "handmade in France" [12]. Another retailer, Paper Plane, says only that they are designed in France [11]. The brand's figures for thickness also vary: its about page speaks of a solid 5 mm, while its own comb listings give 0.4 cm.

Several stockists describe the material as cellulose acetate. The German retailer Belladonna puts its plant-based content at about 70 per cent and calls it biodegradable [13]. Cissy Wears adds that the accessories are made in limited runs and that a tree is planted with every order. The brand does not make any of these claims on its own website.

Besides its web shop, Peignee Paris sells to professionals through a separate wholesale site, where access to the catalogue is granted on request, and through the wholesale marketplace Faire [3]. Its accessories are carried by independent retailers in several European countries.

## Current status

Peignee Paris is active. The French company register lists PEIGNEE as an active company, with its entry last updated on 30 September 2026 [8]. The brand keeps adding to its range: the Oxford colourway arrived in mid-September 2026, and its most recent addition, an Oxford hair pick, went on sale on 25 September 2026 [7]. The brand also runs an Instagram account under the handle @peignee.paris.
