Tensimed has no website or social media accounts of its own; it appears as a section of the sebamed online shop and inherits most of its principles, including the pH 5.5 formulation, from its larger sister brand. ## Origin & founders When Tensimed was introduced, and by whom, has not been made public. The founding dates and the founder associated with the company belong to Sebapharma and sebamed rather than to Tensimed itself. Those dates also differ between sources. The company's own history page places the founding in 1952, when the dermatologist Dr. Heinz Maurer started the business [2]. Its "About us" page instead dates the company's history to 1967, when Maurer founded sebamat GmbH and launched the first soap-free washing bar with a pH of 5.5. English Wikipedia gives 1957 as the year Sebamed was established [6]. ## Ownership Tensimed is owned and marketed by Sebapharma GmbH & Co. KG, founded in 1983 as the distribution company for Sebamat GmbH, Herzpunkt Pharma GmbH, Maurer Pharma GmbH and Maurer Pharma Nord GmbH [4]. The company is headquartered in Bad Salzig, a district of Boppard, where it keeps its administration and its research and development departments. It moved production, research, warehousing and offices to newly built premises there in 1984. According to Sebapharma, the group employs 437 people across five sites (Boppard, Norderstedt, Pfalzfeld, Hong Kong and Shanghai), sells in 100 countries and offers 168 products. The B2B wholesale marketplace Qogita describes Tensimed as a body-care brand focused on gentle cleansing for sensitive and problem-prone skin [10]. ## Products & innovation The Tensimed range consists of a single formula. The Waschlotion (wash lotion) is described by the company as a mild, re-fatting cleanser with aloe vera, meaning it is designed to replace some of the oils that washing removes. It is meant for daily soap-free cleansing of the hands, face and body, applied sparingly to damp skin. The same lotion is sold in a 500 ml bottle and in a refill pouch; Qogita lists the refill at 1,000 ml [10]. Sebapharma says the lotion's slightly acidic pH matches the skin's natural environment and supports a healthy skin barrier and microbiome balance. Its product page describes the formula as clinically tested [5]. Packaging text reproduced by the German online pharmacy aponeo goes further, stating that the product's skin tolerance has been confirmed in dermatological-clinical testing [9]. The same packaging text says the lotion helps maintain the pH of healthy skin and that aloe vera provides moisture and helps protect against dryness. "Soap-free" in this context refers to the absence of traditional soap, not of cleansing agents. The published ingredient list is led by water and sodium laureth sulfate, a common foaming surfactant, followed by cocamidopropyl betaine, aloe leaf juice, glycerin, decyl glucoside and coco-glucoside [5]. The formula also contains fragrance (parfum) and is preserved with benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol and potassium sorbate.
