UrDeo is an alkaline deodorant from Germany, sold as a 50 ml roll-on under the name "Basisches UrDeo von Laetitia". It is not a company in its own right but a single product within the acid-base range of Laetitia Naturprodukte, a maker of natural health products founded in 1992 by the Munich naturopath and author Hannelore Fischer-Reska [2]. Since 2019 Laetitia has belonged to the family company Dr. C. SOLDAN, which is also known for the Em-eukal brand [4].

The deodorant takes a different route from conventional antiperspirants. Instead of blocking sweat with aluminium salts, it relies on mineral bases that, according to its maker, neutralise acidic sweat and make the underarm a less hospitable place for odour-causing bacteria [3]. No public source gives the year UrDeo itself was launched or names the person who developed it. After a short pause to fix a production fault, the product was back on sale as of October 2026.

## Origin & founders

UrDeo's story is the story of the company behind it. Laetitia Naturprodukte grew out of the work of Hannelore Fischer-Reska, a naturopath (Heilpraktikerin) and author based in Munich. Her best-known creation was not a deodorant but a herbal bitter: according to the company, she spent eight years developing and testing a blend of 17 herbs before bringing it to market in 1992 as Bitterstern. Bitter drops, sprays, lozenges and even chocolate truffles under that name still make up a large share of the range.

In 1994 the physician Andreas Hammering, a doctor specialising in natural medicine, joined the business. The company describes the partnership as a meeting of two traditions: Fischer-Reska's long practice as a naturopath and Hammering's training in conventional medicine. Laetitia says this combination shaped its product development and that its products are still created together with doctors, natural-medicine physicians and naturopaths. Fischer-Reska has since died.

The company name comes from the Latin word *laetitia*, which Laetitia translates as "joy of life". Its emblem is a hummingbird.

## History & milestones

The early history of Laetitia centres on its bitters, and the company presents its alkaline line as a second pillar alongside them. That line, sold under the Urbase name, includes three alkaline mineral powders (Urbase I Basic, Urbase II ProActiv and Urbase III Protection), a combined "Basenpower" set and the UrDeo deodorant. The company frames these products around the idea of the body's acid-base balance and publishes guidance on alkaline eating, alkaline baths and foot baths alongside them.

A turning point for the business came in 2019. Andreas Hammering retired that year and handed Laetitia over to Dr. C. SOLDAN Natur- und Gesundheitsprodukte, a family-owned company [2]. The products have since been developed and produced under that ownership.

The most recent visible event in UrDeo's own history is a temporary withdrawal. The company explains on its homepage that a deviation in the production process had occasionally caused the roller ball to stick. It stopped sales, reviewed both the raw materials and the manufacturing process, and made targeted changes before returning the product under the banner "Das UrDeo ist zurück!" ("UrDeo is back!") [1]. The company does not say when the pause began or how long it lasted; the relaunch notice was on the homepage as of October 2026.

## Ownership

UrDeo is made and sold by Dr. C. SOLDAN Natur- und Gesundheitsprodukte GmbH, which operates the Laetitia Naturprodukte brand. According to Laetitia, it has been part of the Dr. C. SOLDAN family company since 2019 [4]. The company's own reference page also describes Laetitia as part of SOLDAN Holding + Bonbonspezialitäten GmbH, and names Nuremberg and Adelsdorf as the group's locations. Within the group, Laetitia sits alongside Em-eukal, one of the brands the SOLDAN company is known for.

Sources differ on where the manufacturer is based. The brand's website gives the company's address as Dr.-Carl-Soldan-Platz 1 in Adelsdorf [4]. An undated UrDeo product data sheet, hosted by a German online pharmacy, instead lists the same company, Dr. C. SOLDAN Natur- und Gesundheitsprodukte GmbH, at Carl-Zeiss-Ring 13 in Ismaning [7]. Because the website is current and the data sheet carries no date, the Ismaning address most likely reflects an earlier company location; this article follows Adelsdorf as the present headquarters.

## Philosophy & positioning

Laetitia sums up its outlook in the slogan "Wir stärken. Was in uns steckt." ("We strengthen what is within us."). The company says it believes that physical and mental wellbeing are the foundation of a happy life, and that it aims to support this with natural products drawing on both herbal tradition and modern science. It positions itself as a health-products maker rather than a cosmetics label, and explicitly states that it is neither a purely cosmetic brand nor an esoteric service.

Three values recur in how the company describes itself. The first is what it calls pharmacy-grade quality ("Apothekenqualität"), a claim it says it has upheld for 30 years. The second is a complete avoidance of synthetic preservatives and additives. The third is the close involvement of doctors and naturopaths in product development. UrDeo is presented in the same terms: as a deodorant made with "natural, body-friendly substances", developed and produced in Germany.

Laetitia's products are distributed mainly in German-speaking Europe. The company says its range is carried by thousands of high-street pharmacies, with a focus on Germany and Austria, and is also sold through its own online shop and on Amazon [4]. For its bitters, Laetitia describes itself as the market leader in the pharmacy segment in those two countries; it makes no comparable claim for UrDeo.

## Products & innovation

UrDeo is a single product: a liquid roll-on in a 50 ml bottle, which the company says lasts about a month with normal use. Its formula is built around alkaline minerals. The ingredient list names calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and potassium bicarbonate, together with water, alcohol, plant-derived glycerin, cellulose, cellulose gum and aloe vera leaf extract. The same ingredient list appears on the manufacturer's product data sheet [7].

The deodorant's working principle is the core of its positioning. Laetitia says UrDeo influences the acid-base environment of the armpit: the mineral bases neutralise acidic sweat, and in the resulting alkaline environment the bacteria that cause odour develop less readily, so that sweat odour forms noticeably less [3]. The product page also claims that unpleasant odour does not develop for up to 48 hours. Neither claim is accompanied by a published study or test result.

The rest of UrDeo's profile is defined largely by what it leaves out. The company describes the deodorant as free from aluminium salts, dyes, preservatives and perfume, and labels it vegan. Because it contains no fragrance, Laetitia calls it odour-neutral. No third-party certifications for the product are documented.

The instructions reflect the mineral suspension inside the bottle. Users are told to shake it hard with the cap closed before every use, apply sparingly and let it dry briefly before dressing. The company advises against applying it directly after shaving, as this can occasionally cause irritation, and the data sheet notes that the bottle is fragile and should be stored somewhere cool, dry and dark.

A product with the same name appears elsewhere under a different label. One online retailer lists an "UrDeo Deodorant" under the brand Life Light, with an ingredient list matching Laetitia's formula [8]. The listing does not explain how the two are connected.

## Current status

UrDeo is an active product. After the production problem with its roller ball was corrected, the deodorant was back on sale as of October 2026 and listed in Laetitia's own shop. Its maker, Dr. C. SOLDAN Natur- und Gesundheitsprodukte GmbH, continues to sell it alongside the Urbase mineral powders and the Bitterstern bitters, mainly in Germany and Austria.
