Markwins began in 1984 as an importer bringing cosmetics from Taiwan to the United States [1]. From that base it expanded across the 2000s and 2010s by buying established American makeup names rather than building them from scratch. Its first major step came in 2003 with the purchase of AM Cosmetics, which brought the value makeup brand Wet n Wild and the multicultural line Black Radiance into the portfolio [1]. Physicians Formula was part of the group for a period after 2012 but is no longer a Markwins brand (see below).
