A-Creme is a Swedish skincare brand built around a single product: a mild, vitamin-A-enriched cream for sensitive and easily irritated skin. It was created in 1953 by the chemist Evert Berlin and, according to the company, has been made and sold continuously ever since with an essentially unchanged formula [1]. The brand remains active and is distributed across the Nordic region, with its cream sold through pharmacies and health-food retailers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Rather than competing on novelty, A-Creme leans on longevity and consistency. Its tagline, "Originalet sedan 1953" (the original since 1953), frames the product as a long-running pharmacy staple appreciated by several generations rather than a brand that reformulates with each new skincare trend.

The brand traces back to Evert Berlin, who worked in pharmaceutical research and development at the Swedish company Astra in the early 1950s [2]. According to A-Creme's own history, Berlin became interested in the skin's properties and in vitamin A's benefits for it, and set out to formulate a cream of his own. His experimentation produced a softening cream that, the company says, absorbed easily without causing irritation, and A-Creme was launched in 1953 [2].

The brand's account also describes an unusual early test market. To evaluate the cream, Berlin had dentists try it, on the reasoning that dental staff wash their hands constantly between patients and frequently develop skin problems. For many years the product was sold exclusively through dental distributors before it became available to the wider public through pharmacies.

A-Creme's positioning is consistency rather than innovation. The company presents the cream as "a unique cream for sensitive skin" that absorbs easily, rehydrates and does not sting, and emphasises gentleness and simplicity over novel actives. Its own framing is that the product "just works" through quality formulation rather than through changing ingredients.

The brand is positioned as reasonably priced relative to more expensive creams, and describes itself as suitable for very broad use, including the face, the body, dry areas such as hands and feet, and use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. A-Creme also markets the cream as gentle enough for infants and for use as a children's salve. The company states that there are no recorded cases of hypersensitivity associated with the cream and describes it as a gentle skincare product "without allergenic properties" [3] — a strong claim presented in the brand's own words rather than as an independent finding.

The line centres on a small number of variants of the same cream: A-Creme Oparfymerad (unscented), A-Creme Oparfymerad Original, and A-Creme Parfymerad (scented). The unscented version is marketed for sensitive and easily irritated skin, including infants, and is described as penetrating easily and being free from parabens [4].

The cream's hero ingredient is vitamin A, listed in the formula as retinyl palmitate, alongside vitamin E (tocopherol), glycerin and canola oil [4]. Beyond the paraben-free claim, the brand does not publish certifications such as cruelty-free or organic marks, and it does not disclose its manufacturing location.

A-Creme's website identifies its parent as Baltex Health & Beauty AB, described as part of Allderma AB, a Stockholm-based Swedish company [1]. The corporate picture is not entirely straightforward. Allderma's own website presents itself as a pharmaceutical company focused on dermatology, trichology and probiotics, and its published brand portfolio lists pharmaceutical and dermatology lines without mentioning A-Creme [6]. The most consistent reading, reflected in A-Creme's own statements, is that the consumer cream sits with Baltex Health & Beauty AB as a sister or subsidiary operation rather than directly within Allderma's pharmaceutical portfolio.

The name of the distributing company also appears in more than one form. A-Creme's site uses Baltex Health & Beauty AB [1], while a 2017 press release was issued under the name Baltex Natural AB and referred in its text to a "Baltex Health & Beauty Group" [7]. The brand-site name appears to be the current usage, with Baltex Natural AB likely an earlier corporate name. In that press release the cream is described as an "agency brand" that Baltex distributes alongside its own products, across markets including Sweden, Norway and Denmark [7].

In November 2017, A-Creme was named the winner of a face-cream test run by the Swedish newspaper Expressen, in its Hälsoliv section, receiving the highest rating among the creams compared for autumn and winter hydration [7]. The test panel described it as cool and pleasant on the skin, absorbing quickly despite being slightly thicker than many face creams, and leaving the skin soft and supple.

Coverage has not been uniformly positive. In a 2010 review, the Swedish beauty site Daisy Beauty rated the cream three out of five, calling it pleasant and easy to apply but "not as natural as it looks" [8]. The reviewer noted that it did not absorb fully, left a somewhat glossy impression on the face, and argued that the brand's 1953 formula had not kept pace with later advances in skincare research.

A-Creme is an active brand. It maintains a live website with Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish language versions, and its cream is stocked by major Swedish pharmacy chains and health retailers, among them Apoteket, Apotek Hjärtat, Kronans Apotek, Lloyds Apotek, Apotea and Lyko [5]. Its profile is that of a legacy pharmacy product distributed under Baltex Health & Beauty AB rather than an independently operated brand with frequent new launches; the most prominent recent press event remains the 2017 Expressen test win.
