Overview
Acqua delle Langhe is an Italian artisanal perfume house founded in 2012 by Alberto Avetta in La Morra, a town in the Langhe wine country of Piedmont [4]. The company builds its identity around that landscape, presenting its scents as a way of translating the culture of the region into fragrance. Its mission, stated on its own site, is "Il Saber fare italiano incontra lo Spirito piemontese" — Italian craftsmanship meeting the Piedmont spirit [2].
The brand remains active. Its webshop ships internationally, including to Nordic markets, and in 2026 it introduced a new line, TRAME, of fragrances for textiles [3].

Origin and founder
The house grew out of a mid-career reinvention. According to the Italian outlet Italia a Tavola, Alberto Avetta had been a commercial director at a clothing company and was laid off around the age of 50; he turned a long-standing interest in scent into a business, founding Acqua delle Langhe and registering the brand in 2012 [4]. He later recounted the experience in a memoir titled Licenziato a 50 anni ("Fired at 50").
The name points to the area's deep history. As the same profile explains, the Langhe were once covered by seawater, and the "water" in the name refers to that primordial element. The hills themselves were recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014.
Products
The first collection, launched in 2012, comprised three personal fragrances — Cannubi, Arborina and Villero — each named after a Langa wine cru, the small, prized vineyard plots of the region [4]. The line expanded within months to eight personal scents, among them Sarmassa, Lirano, Neirane and Cerequio [5]. Alongside these, the company makes home and ambient fragrances, candles, refills, discovery kits and accessories.
A more recent addition is the TRAME line, scents made to be sprayed on fabrics. Its first two releases, Sofisticata and Via Con Me, are named after Piedmontese musicians: the singer Fred Buscaglione and the songwriter Paolo Conte [3]. The TRAME bottles use a single 200 ml aluminium format, which the company frames as a deliberately minimal, low-packaging choice.
Philosophy and positioning
Acqua delle Langhe describes its work around three pillars: artigianalità (craftsmanship), esperienza (experience) and sostenibilità (sustainability) [2]. The company emphasises handwork, stating that "ogni passaggio è fatto manualmente" — every step is done by hand — and that its fragrances pursue "100% italiane," entirely Italian, essences [2]. Early coverage described bottling done entirely by hand, with each flacon hand-filled and fitted with details such as a rose atomiser and a silk handkerchief.
Sustainability
The brand states that its fragrances are hypoallergenic and produced through what it calls a controlled, sustainable supply chain, using food-grade colorants even for vivid shades [2]. It says the paper it uses carries FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification, and it offers refills for its personal fragrances. No independent certification of these claims appears in the available sources.
Manufacturing
The location of the workshop is recorded differently across sources. The company's own site places production in a laboratory in Dogliani, a village in the heart of the Langhe, describing the fragrances as studied in the region and made there [2]. A 2018 profile in Italia a Tavola instead described a small artisanal laboratory "on the outskirts of Milan" [4]. The brand site is the more current account; the Milan reference may reflect the company's early years or an inaccuracy in the article. The company's founding seat is in La Morra.
Recognition
Acqua delle Langhe has appeared at Pitti Immagine Uomo, the Florence menswear trade fair, listed among the exhibitors in the Pitti Uomo 97 archive [7]. It was the subject of a 2018 feature in Italia a Tavola. Beyond these, the available record of press and awards is limited.
Current status
The house is operating as of 2026. Its e-commerce site carries a 2026 copyright, it has recently launched the TRAME line, and it maintains active Instagram and Facebook accounts as well as a wholesale programme for retailers [3]. Its products are distributed through several European retailers, and the company sells internationally.
