Acqua di Taormina is an independent Italian fragrance house based in Catania, Sicily. It was founded in 2009 by the family-run company MAT S.r.l., which set out to dedicate a line of perfumes to its home island and, in particular, to Taormina, the hilltop town it considers Sicily's most evocative place [2]. The brand markets itself as artisanal perfumery rooted in a specific territory, and it remains in operation, with several new fragrances appearing in 2026 [9].

Fragrantica describes it as a small independent house in Sicily whose eponymous scent was its first perfume [7]. Alongside its fragrances, the company has expanded into a body line of washes and lotions, keeping Sicilian ingredients and imagery as the through-line across both.

According to the company, MAT S.r.l. was established in 2009 by a family of Sicilian entrepreneurs who wanted to capture their island in scent [2]. The brand does not publish the founders' names, identifying them only as a Sicilian family. Its stated starting point was Taormina itself, a town set on a rocky terrace some 200 metres above the Ionian Sea, looking out toward Mount Etna. The house draws on the town's long reputation among travellers, citing Goethe, who called it a masterpiece of art and nature, and Guy de Maupassant, who described it as a picture containing everything on earth to seduce the eye and the imagination.

The brand is operated by MAT S.r.l., a company registered in Catania, Sicily [4]. The packet records no acquisitions, parent group beyond MAT S.r.l., or sister brands.

Acqua di Taormina presents its perfumes as a reflection of Sicily's essence, built around what it calls the harmony of the island's contrasts: the power of the sea against the lightness of the breeze, the warmth of the sun against the freshness of citrus, and the aromatic plants of the Mediterranean scrub [3]. The company frames its work as artistic perfumery for people drawn to fragrance with a clear sense of place, and describes its scents as an expression of the bond between people and nature. The house remains based in Catania and centred on the Sicilian theme it began with in 2009.
