Overview
Alpencosmed is a German body-care and skincare brand that, by its own account, has been developing products for skin and hair problems "on as natural a basis as possible" since 1993 [1]. Its range is built around a handful of themed lines: creams inspired by the medieval abbess Hildegard von Bingen, a series based on Dead Sea salt, a milk-and-honey bath and body line named after the Allgäu region, and a small group of traditional body oils and balms.
Today the brand is run by MN Cosmetic GmbH, a company based in Piding in Bavaria [2]. Its history includes at least one change of hands: in 2007 the Allgäu skin-protection manufacturer Azett took over Alpencosmed, which was then based in Kempten im Allgäu, according to Azett's own company chronicle [8]. When and how the brand later passed to MN Cosmetic is not publicly documented.
Origin and history
The people who started Alpencosmed have not been publicly named. The company itself dates its work to 1993, and that year is the only founding date on record [1].
The brand's early home appears to have been Kempten, a town in the Allgäu. Azett GmbH & Co. KG, a soap and skin-protection business whose roots go back to a soap works founded in Memmingen in 1840, lists "the takeover of Alpencosmed from Kempten im Allgäu" as one of the milestones of 2007 [8]. Azett itself moved to a new building in Ungerhausen two years later and has since refocused on skin-protection and hygiene concepts.
Later documents place the brand in Piding, Bavaria. The operating company states that it has taken part in FairCommerce, an initiative of the online-retail association Händlerbund, since July 2018 [2]. The current consumer price list, valid from 18 July 2023, sets out four product series under the Alpencosmed name [4].
Ownership
The brand's website names MN Cosmetic GmbH, registered at the district court in Traunstein and led by managing director Dr. Marcus Heidenreich, as the legal provider of the site [2]. The same company issues the Alpencosmed price list and handles orders and contact enquiries.
The German pharmaceutical directory Gelbe Liste also lists MN Cosmetic as the manufacturer of Alpencosmed products [7]. Its entry for the company shows 79 items, including the Hildegard von Bingen creams, the Dead Sea salt products and the milk-and-honey line, alongside a broad range of essential oils and perfume oils sold under other names.
Not every source agrees. A German product-comparison website, in a review of Dead Sea salt creams, names Azett GmbH & Co. KG as the manufacturer of the Alpencosmed cream it covers [9]. Given Azett's documented 2007 takeover, that attribution may reflect an earlier stage in the brand's ownership; the brand's own site, its price list and the Gelbe Liste directory all name MN Cosmetic.
Philosophy and positioning
Alpencosmed presents itself as a problem-solving brand for everyday care. On its website the company points to the number of people affected by skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne, and links rising allergies to stress, poor diet and environmental factors. Its answer, it says, is the daily use of mild substances that are natural or close to natural, which it describes as bringing a sense of comfort and well-being. The brand's tagline is "Pflege & Wohlfühlen", roughly "care and feeling good".
Price is part of the pitch. According to Alpencosmed, a strategy of affordable prices has made its products accessible to everyone.
The company also describes a modest approach to packaging. Its price list explains that shipping materials, including films and cartons partly supplied by its own suppliers, are reused for as long as they remain in usable condition rather than replaced with new packaging [4]. No third-party certifications or vegan or cruelty-free claims are documented for the brand.
Products
The four product lines draw on quite different sources of inspiration.
The Hildegard von Bingen series takes its name from the Benedictine abbess (1098–1179), whom the company describes as interested in caring for the sick with plants, herbs and roots. Alpencosmed says it developed these creams in her spirit, for sensitive, dry, mature and cracked skin. The line includes aloe vera, arnica, calendula (marigold), sea buckthorn and violet creams, as well as a joint balm and a frankincense balm.
The Dead Sea salt series is the largest. Its website explains the appeal of the lake's salt by its mineral content, naming magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chloride, bromides, iodine and sulfates. The range runs from mineral bath salt, sold in several sizes, to a mud soap, body lotion, shower gel, liquid soap, hair shampoo and a care cream in tube and jar formats. The company presents the bath salt as an additive for partial and full baths that cleanses and cares for the skin.
The Allgäuer Milch & Honig series is a small bath-and-shower line consisting of a cream foam bath, a mild body lotion and a shower cream, which the brand presents mainly in terms of its soft scent.
The Alpencosmed series gathers what the price list calls "traditional and proven" body care: argan oil, jojoba oil, milking grease (a rich balm known in German as Melkfett) and a red vine leaf cream for the legs and feet.
Distribution
Alpencosmed sells directly to consumers through its own online shop and a printable order form, and invites resellers, wholesalers and pharmacies to contact it about stocking the range. Its listing in Gelbe Liste, a reference work used by doctors and pharmacists in Germany, reflects this pharmacy channel [7]. The brand's website is published in German only.
Current status
Alpencosmed is active. Its website and online shop were operating in October 2026, and the company continues to offer its four product lines. The most recent dated brand document is the consumer price list that took effect in July 2023 [4]. No awards, international press coverage or social media accounts are documented for the brand.
