Summary

Overview

Alpengold is a line of body-care and skincare products sold by ALWAG – Alpenkräuter Warengesellschaft mbH, a small cosmetics manufacturer based in Weiler-Simmerberg in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Germany [7]. The range is made up of creams, balms, gels and oils built around ingredients such as sea buckthorn oil, arnica, calendula, aloe vera, magnesium and bee venom, and much of it is aimed at the care of skin, muscles and joints.

ALWAG does not present Alpengold with a brand page or a brand story of its own; the name appears as a prefix on product names within the company's wider catalogue. No launch year for the line has been published. Alpengold is active, with several new products added to ALWAG's online shop between July and September 2026.

Ownership

Alpengold products are sold as a named line in ALWAG's own online shop, which identifies ALWAG as the company behind them [4]. ALWAG is a limited company (GmbH) registered at the district court of Kempten and managed by Sascha Kugelmeier. A Bavarian company database describes it as a manufacturer with 15 employees at the site and annual turnover below five million euros. The same entry lists its activities under the manufacture of perfumes and toilet preparations and, less expectedly for a cosmetics maker, under the distilling and blending of spirits [8].

A different company name appears in pharmacy retail. A German online pharmacy's Alpengold brand page lists five products, among them Moor Creme Alpengold, Arnika Gelenkbalsam and Arnika Fussbalsam, and names Weko-Pharma GmbH as supplier or manufacturer for four of them and Axisis GmbH for the fifth [9]. None of these five products appear among the Alpengold items in ALWAG's own shop. Weko-Pharma GmbH is also named as the manufacturer of an ALWAG-branded tea tree oil cream at another online pharmacy [10], which points to a commercial link between the two firms, but no public source describes their relationship. This article follows ALWAG as the company behind Alpengold, on the basis of the company's own shop.

History & milestones

The history of the Alpengold line itself is undocumented. ALWAG dates its own track record to 1985, under the heading "Qualität seit 1985" (quality since 1985), and refers to more than 35 years of work in cosmetics and in the laboratory [2]. That date belongs to the company and does not mark the start of the Alpengold range.

Recent activity is easier to trace. Over the summer and early autumn of 2026, ALWAG's shop added a run of Alpengold products: Pferde Gel mit Bienengift in early July, Pferdebalsam mit Bienengift a few days later, Arnika Sanddorn Öl Creme in early September and Aloe Vera Sanddorn Öl Creme later that month.

Philosophy & positioning

No philosophy specific to Alpengold has been published, so the line sits under ALWAG's company-wide positioning. ALWAG calls itself one of the better-known cosmetics makers in the Allgäu and says it stands for naturalness and innovation through care ranges typical of the mountains [2]. Its homepage carries the line "Die natürliche Kraft der Alpenkräuter", the natural power of Alpine herbs, and the company says its formulations are developed in harmony with nature.

According to ALWAG, its main concern is healthy, effective care for skin and hair that is as natural as possible. Its stated goal is to stay creative and to grow through the development of new products, and it reports making more than 600 different cosmetics for face, body and hair care.

The ingredient lists add detail to that picture. Both Alpengold products with published formulas contain paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil) and conventional preservatives such as phenoxyethanol alongside their plant extracts. No natural-cosmetics label or other third-party certification is documented for the line.

Products & innovation

ALWAG's shop carries nine Alpengold products [3]. Three are creams that pair sea buckthorn oil with a second botanical: calendula (Ringelblume), aloe vera or arnica. The others are Pferdebalsam (literally "horse balm") and Pferde Gel, both with bee venom, an Altersflecken Creme for age spots, a Silbercreme, and a magnesium gel and oil.

The Pferdebalsam mit Bienengift is the most fully described product in the line. ALWAG says it was developed specifically for the care of skin, muscles and joints, and suggests it for use after exercise, for tension and for sore muscles. The product page notes that honeybee venom has been valued for centuries in traditional medicine as an anti-inflammatory, and it introduces the idea that bee venom stimulates the body's own cortisol production with the phrase "it is said". The balm also contains camphor and menthol. The company warns that it is not suitable for children and should not be used by anyone allergic to any of its ingredients, bee venom included [4].

The Arnika Sanddorn Öl Creme is presented as suitable for all skin types and for daily use. According to its product page, arnica is often used to support skin regeneration, sea buckthorn oil is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and regular use of the cream can improve the skin's firmness and elasticity; no study is cited for that claim [5]. At company level, ALWAG states that its products are tested and recognised by dermatologists, without saying so specifically of the Alpengold line.

Current status

Alpengold is active. New products joined ALWAG's online shop as recently as September 2026, and the Arnika Sanddorn Öl Creme page was updated later that month [5]. ALWAG names wholesale representatives in Croatia and Slovenia [6] and says its products have users across Europe and Asia, but it does not specify which of its ranges those channels carry.
