Overview
Anwen is a Polish hair-care company based in Kraków, founded in 2015 [6]. It grew out of a hair-care blog started in 2009 by Anna Kołomycew, which became one of the most-read blogs of its kind in Poland before the cosmetics line launched [6]. The brand built its identity around hair porosity, formulating products for high, medium and low porosity hair and using the tagline "conscious care."
The company operates internationally today through an English-language webshop alongside its Polish site, and its products are stocked across major Polish drugstore chains as well as several retailers abroad.

Origin & founders
Anwen traces back to 2009, when Anna Kołomycew, a mathematician by training, began writing a blog about hair care. The blog drew a large following during an early Polish "hair consciousness" movement, and the company says it had attracted close to seven million visitors by the time the cosmetics line appeared.
A first approach from a cosmetics company came in 2012, but Kołomycew declined it over concerns about creative control [6]. In 2015 she instead began developing her own line, partnering with Katarzyna Sawicz, a chemist with a doctorate and a background in biotechnology and chemical synthesis [6]. The company's commercial debut came in early 2017 with three hair masks aimed at low, medium and high porosity hair [6].
History & milestones
The 2017 launch found an initial audience among existing blog readers, and distribution widened from there. According to a feature in the Polish publication INNPoland, the major drugstore chains Rossmann and Hebe approached the brand directly, and Anwen products went on to be carried across the main Polish drugstore networks [6]. The company has stated an intention to expand internationally, focusing on countries whose populations have hair characteristics similar to Poland's [6].
Philosophy & positioning
Anwen frames its approach as "conscious care," which it defines as understanding an individual's hair porosity and structure in order to choose suitable products. The company describes itself as the first in Poland to formulate by hair porosity, arguing that high, low and medium porosity hair each need conditioning substances matched to molecule size [2]. A UK retailer that stocks the brand characterised it as combining science with natural ingredients and taking an educational stance, teaching customers to identify and care for their own hair type [7].
The founders sum up their intent simply: according to the company, Anwen develops only cosmetics that its team would want to use themselves and recommend to a close friend [2].
Products & innovation
The range centres on hair care, spanning shampoos, conditioners, masks, oils and serums, mists, styling products and supplements. Central to the formulation philosophy is what the brand calls PEH balance, a balance between three groups of ingredients: humectants, proteins and emollients [2]. Anwen describes proteins as the main building material of the hair shaft and selects oils according to their molecular weight and structure.
Named products include the Wish Me PEH Balanced Conditioner for medium-porosity hair and the Grow Me Tender Warming Herbal Hair Lotion aimed at weakened or falling hair [7]. The catalogue also features collections such as Creme de la Creme and the Aware Scalp Care range, color-cooling masks sold as Cool Bananas, and a children's line. At least some products are vegan; the company lists a Protein Green Tea conditioner as a vegan option.
On packaging, the company says it uses recyclable materials including glass, metal, cardboard and recycled (PCR) plastic, and reuses packaging with biodegradable fillers when shipping [2].
