Summary

Overview

AXIS-Y is a South Korean skincare brand founded in 2019 in Seoul [7], part of the wider wave of K-beauty labels that built their following online rather than through traditional retail. It is owned by Asia Master Trade Co., Ltd, based in the Gangnam district of Seoul [8]. The company describes itself as a "climate-inspired" skincare brand, built around the idea that skin has to cope with the conditions of everyday life rather than ideal ones.

The brand remains in active trade, with distribution reported in more than 50 countries and a continuing product line and sustainability programme through the mid-2020s [8].

Origin and founders

AXIS-Y launched in 2019, with Maggie Yue named as founder and chief executive [8]. Industry directory listings also record a small leadership team covering marketing and human resources, and the parent company, Asia Master Trade Co., Ltd, is registered at the brand's Seoul headquarters [8].

According to one K-beauty editorial account, the company was set up around a "single plan and deep ideology – Clean Beauty," which it framed as both clean, plant-based ingredients and an environmentally minded approach to making skincare [7]. The brand's retail partners describe its first product as the result of a survey of more than 1,000 influencers worldwide — an early sign of the community-led development that the company would later make a central theme.

Philosophy and positioning

The company's tagline is "The Climate of You." By this it means the mix of external and internal factors — humidity, pollution, stress, sleep, travel and daily routine — that shape how skin looks and feels day to day. AXIS-Y argues that skincare should adapt to these shifting conditions, and groups much of its range into three "skin climate" categories: Thirsty Skin Society for skin that struggles to hold moisture, Dewy Mode for skin that is oily yet dehydrated, and Handle With Care for sensitive, reactive skin.

The brand sets out three guiding pillars — climate-inspired, community-driven and self-care focused — and states its aim as making "skincare that works — for real people, across real environments, through real life." It positions itself at an accessible price point; a retailer editorial describes the range as effective skincare that is relatively affordable compared with luxury brands, aimed at people dealing with concerns such as hyperpigmentation, dehydration, acne-prone skin and uneven texture. One retail partner reports that the company calls itself the original creator of "climate-inspired skincare" [10].

Products and innovation

AXIS-Y's range centres on serums, ampoules, toners, creams, masks and sunscreen. Its best-known product is the Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum, built around 5% niacinamide with squalane and botanical extracts, which K-beauty editorial repeatedly cites as the brand's bestseller. Other recurring products include the Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule, the TXA 2.5% Intensive Brightening Cream — formulated with tranexamic acid, niacinamide and glutathione — and the Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen, which uses non-nano zinc oxide at SPF 50+.

Much of the line is organised under what the company calls its 6+1+1 system: each formula is described as combining six base ingredients for general nourishment, one targeted active for a specific concern, and one "advanced" or technology ingredient. A 2021 press release referred to this as the "611 line," noting that the final component is a skincare patent technology, though the patent itself is not named [9]. A second, newer range, ay&me, is presented as community-created and was, according to the company, developed with input from more than 1,000 creators across 68 countries; it features a "Special Biome Blend" with probiotics and prebiotics aimed at supporting the skin barrier.

The brand grew quickly during the pandemic. A 2021 press release reported that AXIS-Y had sold more than one million units of its Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack in three months across 20 regions, and that the brand's hashtag had reached 84 million views on TikTok [9]. The same release framed this growth around the rise of self-care and online skincare communities during lockdowns.

Sustainability

AXIS-Y summarises its environmental stance as "skin care = Earth care," arguing that skincare should not come at the planet's expense. In practice this has included eco-conscious packaging with easily removable, recyclable labels, introduced from 2023. Since 2019 the company has also run an annual "5.5 Skincare Community Day," named after skin's roughly 5.5 pH level, tied to yearly charitable donations to organisations including the World Wildlife Fund, the Coral Reef Alliance and One Tree Planted.

On ethics, AXIS-Y states on its own site that all of its products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free [2], and retailer editorial adds that its formulas are free from parabens, artificial fragrances and mineral oils. The vegan claim is not fully consistent across sources: a 2025 K-beauty editorial states instead that the majority of the brand's products are vegan rather than the full range [7]. The discrepancy may reflect an older product line-up or imprecision in third-party reporting; the brand's current statement is the broader claim of being entirely vegan. The packet records no third-party certifications such as Leaping Bunny.

Recognition

AXIS-Y has limited mainstream press coverage, and the available sources do not record formal awards. Its visibility has come largely through K-beauty specialist and retailer editorial and through social media, where the Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack and the Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum are the products most often singled out.

Current status

AXIS-Y is an actively trading brand. Industry listings report distribution in more than 50 countries and a workforce spanning more than ten nationalities [8], and the company has continued to expand its range with the ay&me line and to run its annual sustainability campaign into 2024, with editorial coverage of the brand appearing as recently as late 2025.
