Summary

Overview

Balocchi is an Italian niche perfumery brand based in Pesaro, a coastal city on the Adriatic. It belongs to the Balocchi Group, a family-run beauty and personal-care company founded by Marco Balocchi, who is known in the Italian fragrance trade by the nickname "Il principe del Profumo" (the Prince of Perfume) [2]. The group describes itself as having worked in high-quality cosmetics since 1978, though its modern corporate form is more recent.

The brand sits across several lines, from the heritage-styled "Balocchi e Profumi 1978" perfumes to a children's range and a contemporary "Be" fragrance collection launched in the mid-2020s. It remains an active, owner-operated business, selling through its own shops and websites in Italy and, more recently, through niche retailers abroad.

Origin and founders

Marco Balocchi was born in 1973 in Pesaro, into what his biographical site describes as a family of entrepreneurs [10]. The company traces its perfumery work in the city back to 1978, a date the brand carries through its "Balocchi e Profumi 1978" line and the linked retail business once branded CAP Profumerie.

The founding date is recorded inconsistently across the company's own properties. The Balocchi Group site states that it "has operated in the high-quality cosmetics sector since 1978" [2], while Marco Balocchi's biographical site says Balocchigroup was "Founded in 2016," describing it as "a laboratory where dreams transform into reality" [10]. The two are not contradictory so much as describing different things: 1978 reflects the long-running Pesaro perfumery roots, and 2016 marks the reorganisation of the modern Balocchi Group entity. The Balocchi-branded fragrances themselves are newer still, dating from 2024 onward.

Ownership and structure

Balocchi is privately held by Marco Balocchi. The manufacturing and brand business operates as "Balocchi di Balocchi Marco," registered in Pesaro [4], while a related retail perfumery chain trades as "Le Profumerie di Balocchi" under a separate registration [11]. Both are controlled by Marco Balocchi and share the same Pesaro address. The Balocchi Group also acts as a house of brands, with its catalogue listing in-house names such as Barba Sana, Balocchi Baby and Balocchi e Profumi 1978 alongside others.

Philosophy and positioning

The company sums up its outlook with the tagline "Positivity: is a lifestyle!" [2]. According to its about page, Balocchi focuses on making modern, practical cosmetics and aims to compete on quality while "bringing smiles to consumers." Marco Balocchi has said he wanted a company "in the world of beauty respectful of human dignity," with creations "thought to last in future generations" [10]. In market terms the brand positions itself as Made-in-Italy niche perfumery, sold through independent perfumeries rather than mass retail.

Products and innovation

The brand's range centres on fragrance. Its "Be" collection includes Be Virgin, Be Chic, Be Delicious and Be Unique eau de parfums, sold individually in 100 ml bottles. Be Virgin, released in 2024, was composed by perfumer Giulia Brigliadori in the fougère family, with the raw-materials house Farotti credited as essenziera and Marco Balocchi handling packaging design [13]. Be Chic is built around Italian violet, caramel and vanilla cream [14].

A separate flagship is the Balocchi 0.1 Profumo, a 100 ml men's fragrance under the Balocchi e Profumi 1978 line, built on notes of bergamot, lavender, iris, Brazilian rosewood, vetiver and tonka bean. The company highlights its packaging here, describing "100% recyclable birch paper packaging that respects the environment" and a "retro recyclable glass container," and says the formula uses "high-quality ingredients from responsible agriculture" [9]. The Balocchi Baby line markets scented waters "for children aged 0 to 99 years," some sold with plush companions. The brand has not published certifications to support its environmental claims.

Recognition and press

Balocchi's press footprint sits largely within the Italian niche-perfume community. The Accademia del Profumo featured Be Virgin in 2024 with full creative-team credits [13]. Separately, founder Marco Balocchi authored a book on beard-care culture, "Che Barba!," in collaboration with the publisher Feltrinelli Editore, with a follow-up titled "Che Rasatura!" announced [2]. No mainstream beauty-press coverage or industry awards were identified.

Current status

Balocchi is active. The most recent visible activity is a run of fragrance launches in 2024 and 2025, including the Be Virgin release and additional perfumes in the Be collection [13]. The company maintains a retail presence across Italy, online stores at balocchigroup.it and balocchieprofumi.com, and a growing international distribution through niche retailers. Marco Balocchi's site notes that the brand's Italian-made creations were "expanded to international markets" in 2023 [10].
