Basiderm

Basiderm is a Nordic skincare line developed for sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin. It is owned by Galderma Nordic AB and sits alongside Basiron, the over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide acne medication, as a companion daily-care routine rather than a treatment in its own right. The brand is sold across Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, and its products are distributed exclusively through pharmacies.

The brand is active. Its most recent addition, the Basiderm Microbiome Equalizer, launched around 2023, and the parent company's Nordic site remained in service through 2025. Because Basiderm and Basiron are Nordic-specific names — the international equivalent of Basiron AC is sold as Benzac — the line has little editorial coverage outside the region.

Basiderm is operated by Galderma Nordic AB, based in Uppsala, Sweden, which manages both Basiderm and Basiron for the Nordic market. The wider parent, Galderma, is a dermatology company formed in 1981 as a joint venture between Nestlé and L'Oréal [10].

Sources differ on how to place the brand geographically. Galderma's ultimate corporate domicile is Switzerland — Wikipedia describes the group as a Swiss pharmaceutical company headquartered in Zug [10] — while the brand itself is built and managed from Sweden, where Galderma Nordic AB lists a postal address in Uppsala [2]. Both descriptions are accurate at different levels of the corporate structure.

The parent company has changed hands several times. In 2014 Nestlé bought out L'Oréal's stake to take full ownership, in a deal valued at €3.1 billion [10]. Nestlé in turn sold Galderma in 2019 to a consortium led by the Swedish investment firm EQT [10]. The group returned to public markets in March 2024 with an initial public offering on the SIX Swiss Exchange [10]. These changes concern the parent group; Basiderm's own position within Galderma Nordic AB has remained consistent.

Basiderm presents itself as dermatologist-developed daily skincare meant to support acne treatment without disrupting the skin barrier or microbiome. The line is framed as the gentle, everyday half of a routine whose active step is the Basiron AC medication.

The parent company is explicit about distancing the brand from beauty-trend marketing. On its Swedish site it states that it does not concern itself with beauty trends or quick fixes, and that its focus is the user's skin and clearing their acne [2]. That clinical, anti-trend stance runs through how the products are described: each is positioned as tested and developed to cleanse, moisturise, protect and maintain the skin's natural balance. The Finnish site carries a lighter consumer tagline alongside this — "Elämässä on hauskempiakin asioita kuin akne!" ("There are more fun things in life than acne!") [5].

Distribution reinforces the positioning. Across the Nordic markets the products are sold only through pharmacies, a point the Finnish site states plainly [5].

The range centres on three products. The Oil Control Foam Wash is a low-pH cleanser for oily, acne-prone skin; the Oil Control Daily Moisturizer is a 24-hour moisturiser that, unusually for an acne-care product, includes sun protection; and the Microbiome Equalizer is a facial cream built around probiotic technology. Together they map onto a three-step routine of cleanse, treat and moisturise, with the Basiron medication occupying the treatment step.

The formulations draw on a recurring set of ingredients. According to the brand, the products combine zinc, ceramide and oleosome technology with allantoin and licorice root extract [5]. The published ingredient list for the Daily Moisturizer includes zinc gluconate, which the editorial database Incidecoder notes has research supporting its effectiveness against inflammatory acne, along with a ceramide and the soothing agents allantoin and glycyrrhetinic acid [12].

The Microbiome Equalizer, the line's most recent product, is built on probiotic-based technology intended to help restore the skin's microbiome balance and reduce breakouts. Its formula is led by glycerin and squalane and includes lactobacillus ferment, the probiotic component, which Incidecoder describes as having anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties [13]. The company says the cream is clinically proven to moisturise for 24 hours and describes it as lightweight, non-greasy and non-comedogenic. It was introduced around 2023, featured as a recent launch in the parent site's news section with product images dated to that autumn [8].

The brand also makes several formulation claims across the range: the Foam Wash is described as soap-free, paraben-free and alcohol-free, while the Daily Moisturizer is listed as alcohol-free and free of fragrance and essential oils.
