Summary

Overview

Biodance is a South Korean skincare brand based in the Gangnam district of Seoul and owned by Beautyselection Co., Ltd. [1] Most retailer records place its founding in 2021 [11][12], and it is best known internationally for a single product — the Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask — which spread widely on TikTok in 2024 and pulled the wider range along with it.

The company positions itself within K-beauty, the Korean skincare category, and frames its work around dermatological testing and ingredient safety rather than viral novelty. Its products are sold directly through biodance.com and through retailers including Cult Beauty, Space NK, Sephora and Amazon.

Origin & founders

According to Space NK, Biodance was established in Seoul in 2021 by Mihwa Kim, who was drawn to skincare after recovering from facial burns. [12] The retailer reports that the experience shaped Kim's founding idea that skincare "could be used as a tool for healing, not just a temporary fix." Biodance's own website does not publish a founder biography or a company history, and the founder details are recorded by retail partners rather than by the brand directly.

The founding year is not entirely settled. Cult Beauty, Space NK and several other retailer pages independently give 2021 [11][12]; the company-data service Tracxn lists 2010 instead [13]. The earlier date appears to be an outlier — the brand's own promotional history, including a launch sale dated to November 2024, is consistent with a recent debut rather than a decade-old company.

Ownership

Biodance is operated by Beautyselection Co., Ltd., registered in Seoul under business number 551-81-01715, with offices on Dosan-daero in Gangnam-gu. [1] The brand reaches its market through a mix of direct online sales and third-party retail, and customer and wholesale contact run through Beautyselection's corporate addresses.

Philosophy & positioning

Biodance summarises its approach as "science-backed skincare," and the company says its products are formulated to suit all skin types "without compromising on ingredients." On its brand page the company sets out three stated pillars — described as a focus on visible results over hype, ingredient safety graded against the Environmental Working Group's safety ratings, and broad commercial reach. The brand's tagline is "Unmask Your Own Glow."

Product development is guided by a Korean dermatology advisory committee of three specialists — Hong Won-kyu, Joo Hong-jin and Noh Sung-min — who, according to the company, review ingredients, safety and efficacy. [6] Their stated remits cover, respectively, side-effect assessment, skin diversity across ethnicities, and ingredient formulation.

Products & innovation

Biodance's catalogue centres on sheet masks, with toners, pads, ampoules, serums and cleansers alongside them. The hydrogel masks are sold in several variants aimed at specific concerns: the Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask, the Hydro Cera-Nol mask for hydration and barrier support, the Radiant Vita Niacinamide mask for brightening, the Refreshing Sea Kelp mask for blemish-prone skin, and the Rejuvenating Caviar PDRN mask. Toner pads and ampoules built around collagen and probiotics round out the range.

The brand attributes its mask performance to ultra-low-molecular-weight collagen, which it markets as a proprietary "243Da" technology said to absorb more readily into the skin. [3] A second proprietary formulation, branded Cera-Nol, anchors the ceramide hydration masks. Other commonly cited ingredients include hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, panthenol, PDRN and caviar extract.

Recognition

Biodance drew sustained beauty-press attention through 2025 and into 2026, almost all of it centred on the Bio-Collagen mask. Who What Wear, whose editors tested most of the range over roughly a month, described Biodance as a "buzzy K-beauty brand" and concluded it was "one to beat." [7] Good Housekeeping, Stylecaster and SheKnows ran similar editor trials, repeatedly tying the mask to the "glass skin" look — a smooth, luminous complexion — and recommending it as pre-event preparation rather than routine weekly use.

The Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask became the brand's breakout product after K-beauty TikTok creator Ava Lee (GlowWithAva) posted herself wearing it during a 15-hour flight; SheKnows reports the search term "Biodance face mask" reached 52.6 million posts on TikTok. [10] Who What Wear wrote that the product "basically broke the internet a few months ago." [7]

Current status

Biodance is an active brand with global distribution and an operating direct-to-consumer site. Editorial coverage continued into 2026, and the company has kept launching new products, including a serum collection promoted on its homepage. The brand's public profile remains concentrated on its mask line, with broader portfolio coverage still limited.
