Summary

Overview

Bioearth is an Italian organic-cosmetics and natural-products company founded in 1996 in Fornovo di Taro, near Parma [1]. It was started by Sabrina Mazzaschi and Paolo Adorni, who had met in 1988 and trained in macro- and microalgae in California before setting up the business [1]. The brand builds most of its skincare around high concentrations of organic aloe vera and markets its formulas as free of silicones, mineral oils, parabens and SLS/SLES.

Since November 2018 Bioearth has been part of the Naturalia Tantum group, an Italian eco-bio cosmetics company headquartered in Milan [9]. It remains an active flagship line within that group, which manufactures in Italy and exports to around 44 countries.

Origin and founders

According to the company's corporate account, Mazzaschi and Adorni met in 1988 and completed specialist training in macro- and microalgae in California before founding the business. The parent group frames that history in plain terms, describing Bioearth as "founded in 1996 to spread a culture of natural well-being." Production has been based in Fornovo di Taro, in the province of Parma, from the start; the registered corporate address now sits in Milan, reflecting its place in the Naturalia Tantum group.

History and milestones

Bioearth's first branded cosmetic line, The Beauty Seed, was built on organic aloe vera. The company's corporate timeline dates the launch to 1998 [1]. The brand's own Beauty Seed 2.0 page carries the header "Since 1988 to this day," but 1988 is the year the founders met rather than the year the line appeared; the corporate timeline records the launch as 1998 [6].

Several lines followed over the next two decades. The company introduced the Greenology microalgae supplement range in 2000, an eco-organic sunscreen line, Bioearth Sun, in 2010, and the snail-secretion Loom range from 2013. In 2019 it entered a partnership with WWF through the Imprese per la Natura programme, and in 2020 it launched the Tea Tree Defence and Elementa_ lines.

Ownership

Bioearth, originally registered as Bioearth International Srl, was acquired by Naturalia Tantum on 27 November 2018; no financial terms were disclosed [9]. The brand's contacts page now describes it as "a brand of Naturalia Tantum S.p.A.," distributed by SAN.ECO.VIT. S.R.L. Naturalia Tantum presents itself as a group of companies focused on organic cosmetics, natural cleansing and nutritional supplements, with manufacturing plants and research centres in Italy and an export reach the group puts at 44 countries, including the United States, France, England and the United Arab Emirates [8].

Philosophy and positioning

Bioearth positions itself as an Italian organic-cosmetics maker centred on natural and certified-organic ingredients, with formulations the company describes as "green" — without silicones, mineral oils, parabens or SLS/SLES. It states its vision as creating "a perfect balance between living species and the Universe," and lists effectiveness, sustainability and social and environmental commitment among its core values. The parent group sums up the brand's tone as "a love story. Love for the earth, health, and well-being." Its tagline is "A beautiful and organic cosmetic."

Products and innovation

Aloe vera is the brand's defining ingredient, used across face, body, hair and intimate-care products at concentrations the company quotes from 50 percent up to 99 percent in its Aloe Vera Gel. The Beauty Seed line remains its flagship; its later reformulation adds organic fermented aloe vera, with Bioearth describing fermentation as a way to "boost natural cosmetic ingredient improving their proprieties" [6].

The Loom range is the brand's other signature line, based on snail secretion. Bioearth calls it "the first certified organic range of cosmetics with snail slime in Europe," a claim the company has not had independently verified [7]. It says the secretion is obtained through a cruelty-free method of manual stimulation from snails farmed organically on open-air land in Italy, and attributes "proven regenerative, rejuvenating, re-epithelizing and purifying actions" to the ingredient [7].

Across its lines, Bioearth cites Italian organic certifications including AIAB, ICEA and Bios, and references COSMOS ORGANIC certification; the parent group's page mentions EcoBioControl approval. Many products are marked vegan, and the company describes itself as "100% made in Italy."

Current status

Bioearth is an active brand. It operates within the Naturalia Tantum group, whose brand site, online shop and social channels remain current, and the parent group has continued to make acquisitions and expand its operations. Originally an independent indie brand, it has continued as a flagship line under group ownership since 2018.
