Summary

Overview

BIOpH+ is a Swedish skincare and foot-care brand owned and manufactured by Biocool AB, a company based in Stockholm whose core business is chlorine-free water and cleaning solutions. The brand applies a patented oxygen-releasing granule technology, originally developed for water treatment, to skin conditions such as athlete's foot, plaque psoriasis and acne-prone skin. Several of its products are classified as medical devices rather than conventional cosmetics.

The trade publication WWD dates the brand's launch to 2021, describing BIOpH+ as "a Swedish medtech brand for healthy skin, which launched in 2021 as part of Biocool AB" [13]. The parent company itself was founded earlier, in 2012 [4], so the two dates refer to different events: the founding of Biocool AB and the later launch of the BIOpH+ skincare line built on its technology.

Origin & founders

Biocool AB was founded in 2012 in Skellefteå, northern Sweden, by the chemist and inventor Jan-Olof Eriksson [4]. According to the company's account, Eriksson began developing the underlying technology after suffering blood poisoning from a foot wound he sustained while on holiday in Thailand. His experiments led to a granule-based solution that becomes chemically active on contact with water.

That technology was first commercialised in water purification and cleaning, and personal care was added later as a distinct line. BIOpH+ was established as a separate brand to bring the granule technology to the skincare market, addressing conditions including foot fungus, psoriasis and acne [13]. The parent company subsequently moved its headquarters from Skellefteå to Stockholm, where Biocool AB is now based.

Ownership

BIOpH+ is owned and manufactured by Biocool AB [3], which also markets water purification, water-tank cleaning and laundry products under its own name. Personal-care products are sold specifically under the BIOpH+ brand. The two are presented as related but distinct: Biocool tells the origin story of the shared granule technology, while BIOpH+ functions as the consumer-facing skincare identity.

Both BIOpH and BIOpH+ appear in the company's branding; the consumer site favours "BIOpH+" on product names, while "BIOpH" is used across the press archive. Leadership has changed over time. The brand's 2026 About page lists Frida Svedberg as chief executive, whereas the 2021–2022 press releases credit Petra von Rohr as chief executive of Biocool during the launch and award period.

Philosophy & positioning

BIOpH+ positions itself on a principle it summarises as "simplicity and purity," and frames the skin as a self-repairing organ rather than something to be supplemented. In its interview with WWD, the company stated: "BIOpH believes in the skin as a highly competent organ. Therefore, we focus on removing what should not be on the skin, rather than adding new substances" [13]. The stated aim is to create conditions in which the skin can heal itself, instead of introducing further active ingredients.

The brand describes its range as a series of simple, effective products designed specifically for problem skin, and says its formulas are gentle to both people and the environment. It also draws on its origins in northern Sweden, describing itself as rooted in the region's nature. Pricing sits above mass-market drugstore products, which the company attributes to the medical-device classification of several of its items and the clinical testing that classification requires.

Products & innovation

The brand's central product is a medical foot bath, sold as BIOpH+ Footcare, which the company describes as clinically proven against common foot problems such as foot fungus, heel cracks, calluses and dry skin. Its active component is a granulate of sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate; when this granule meets water, the company says it produces "an oxygen explosion" that creates an environment in which bacteria, fungi and viruses do not thrive [13]. This oxygen-releasing granule technology is described as a patented Swedish innovation and is common to the brand's medical products.

The medical foot bath is marketed as suitable for diabetics and is certified as a medical device, class IIa under the EU Medical Device Regulation, and ISO 13485:2016 certified. The range has expanded beyond foot care: a psoriasis medical bath for plaque psoriasis launched in 2022, alongside an acne-prone line comprising a cleanser, treatment and moisturiser. The brand also sells conventional, non-device products, including a foot cream containing almond and apricot kernel oils with cooling camphor and menthol, which is not classified as a medical device.

BIOpH+ supports several of its products with clinical evidence. A study at University Hospital Örebro reported that the psoriasis bath reduced plaques in both surface area and height, demonstrated an exfoliating effect, and was safe for regular use. For the acne-prone line, the company cites studies conducted on more than 100 people. According to WWD, the brand counted twelve products and formulas compliant with the EU Medical Device Regulation [13].

Recognition

In 2022, BIOpH+ won the Stockholm Beauty Week Award for Best Foot Care Product [5]. The same year, ahead of the product's wider rollout, the brand announced a partnership with the Stockholm football club Djurgårdens IF, supplying its foot-care products to the club's women's and men's senior teams.

The brand's most prominent third-party coverage came from WWD, which featured it in a February 2023 article on Scandinavian beauty brands written by European beauty editor Jennifer Weil [13]. The piece situated BIOpH+ within the broader rise of Scandinavian beauty and medical-skincare trends. As of mid-2026, it remained the brand's main independent editorial mention.

Current status

BIOpH+ remains commercially active. Its e-commerce site carries a full catalogue with current promotions and a 2026 copyright notice, and a business-to-business reseller portal operates on a dedicated platform. Distribution spans the Nordic countries and a number of other European markets, with the site supporting several currencies. The brand reaches consumers through its own website, pharmacies and online beauty retailers, and works with dermatologists, skin therapists and podiatrists across the Nordic region. No press releases appear after 2022, but commercial operations continue.
