Summary

Overview

Brave. New. Hair. is a Bulgarian hair-care brand based in Plovdiv. It is a line of the family-owned cosmetics manufacturer BIOPHARMA Laboratories, which the company traces to 1994 [2]. The brand markets sulfate-, mineral-oil- and silicone-free formulas under a clean-beauty positioning, and is registered with The Vegan Society and approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme.

The year the line itself began is recorded differently across sources. The company's LinkedIn entity gives a founding year of 2018 [13], and this is the date used here for the brand. The brand's own "About" page does not state a launch year for Brave. New. Hair., noting only that it "was born with the change of generations in the company"; the 1994 date on that page refers explicitly to the parent manufacturer BIOPHARMA Laboratories rather than to the line [2].

Origin

According to its account of its own history, Brave. New. Hair. grew out of BIOPHARMA Laboratories as a new-generation hair-care project after a change of management brought new technologies and a new approach to common hair problems. The company says the work began with formulating products for the specific hair concerns of close friends, and expanded as the recipes proved effective: "we managed to create good formulas and helped a few of our friends. Then we helped a few more," the brand recounts on its site [2].

The team is based at the company's own facility in Plovdiv, where production and an in-house development laboratory are located [2]. The brand states that its team is led by a master pharmacist and includes engineer-technologists, and that it employs a cosmetic-product safety assessor qualified through the Free University of Brussels. The named individual founders of the line are not disclosed.

Philosophy and positioning

Brave. New. Hair. presents itself as part of the clean-beauty movement, formulating without certain ingredients it describes as potentially harmful to the environment or of concern to some consumers. Its central argument is that healthy hair is beautiful hair: the company says its products do not use ingredients that mask problems, but instead build their effect through accumulation of selected modern ingredients over time. The brand's stated mission is to make people "fall in love with their hair," and it markets to what it calls the modern woman seeking to care for her hair with confidence rather than chase instant, temporary results. It uses the tagline "be brave."

The range is organised into focused collections, each aimed at a particular need — among them Growth (thinning and hair loss), Keratin (strength), Color (colour-treated hair), Balance (scalp concerns), Reboot (hydration and repair), Volume and Restore.

Products and ingredients

The brand's catalogue spans shampoos, conditioners, masks, treatments, sprays, a hair cream and a hair oil, alongside body products. Recurring items include the Coconut Cuddle hair cream, the Liquid Light hair oil and the Brave Plex Restore ampoules. Its ingredient pages highlight quinoa protein, keratin amino acids, coconut and argan oils, provitamin B5 (panthenol), fruit acids and berry-derived oils.

Several of the brand's claims are specific. It describes quinoa protein as improving pigment uptake by up to 25 per cent for richer colour after subsequent dyeing [3]. For its bond-building system, branded Brave Plex Technology, the company states that the treatment strengthens the hair shaft up to three times and reinforces the hair's internal structure [3].

A co-branded line, Bloom by Polina Sofia, was developed with the Bulgarian influencer of that name — a peony-scented daily hair- and body-care series spanning a shampoo, an illuminating mask, a heat-protective styling cream, a body lotion and a shower gel [7].

Science and innovation

The brand attributes part of its formulation approach to a process it calls Molecular Biological Liquefaction. According to the company, this enzyme-based technology was developed by Toso Montanari at the Department of Industrial Chemistry of the University of Bologna and licensed exclusively to its partner firm Fenbiox; it is used to obtain plant bioactive compounds in liquid form [2]. The brand also describes techniques it calls charging — adding a positively charged group to a known ingredient so it binds to the negatively charged hair — and fragmenting, which breaks ingredients such as keratin into smaller units intended to penetrate the hair.

Sustainability

Brave. New. Hair. links its environmental claims to its Plovdiv production base. The company says it limits electricity use through alternative heating and cooling and that most of its machinery is pneumatic, running on compressed air rather than electric power. It states that it does not use drinking water but instead draws, filters and deionises borehole water locally for its products. Packaging is described as 100 per cent recyclable plastic with aluminium shampoo caps, and the company lists a stated next goal of replacing its plastic with sugarcane-based or already-recycled material [2]. It reports that its manufacturing follows the ISO 22716 good-manufacturing-practice standard and that the company is audited annually for social responsibility under SMETA.

Recognition

In 2019, Brave. New. Hair. was selected for Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna's "Cosmotrends" report, in the HAIR / Hyperactive Naturals category, for its Repairing & Nourishing Candy Hair Set [9]. The report described the set as a strengthening and nourishing treatment for use during colouring or bleaching, containing a glucose-based serum designed to interact with hair at a molecular level.

Distribution

The brand sells directly through its Bulgarian site, bravenewhair.bg, built on Shopify, and is carried by retailers beyond Bulgaria. These include the Nordic beauty retailer Lyko, which stocks the range in Norway and Sweden [11], the UK retailer Klipshop and the Lithuanian retailer Molecule, in addition to Bulgarian stockists.

Current status

The brand is actively trading. Its direct-to-consumer site, published in Bulgarian, remains live with current product promotions and new product variants, and its Instagram account is active. A Brave New Hair Android app was released on Google Play in 2025 [14]. Some channels show maintenance gaps — the site footer still carries a 2022 copyright notice and the most recent blog post is dated October 2023 — but commercial signals such as the 2025 app launch, the active social presence and refreshed product lines indicate the brand remains in operation.
