Summary

Overview

Brilliant Smile is a Swedish oral-care and teeth-whitening brand based in Gothenburg. According to the company, it began in 2003, when whitening was still seen in Sweden as an expensive treatment reserved for the few [2]. The brand says it was the first to market teeth whitening in Sweden, and built its range around whitening toothpastes, mouthwashes, strips and clinic treatments rather than abrasive polishing products [2]. One third-party review site gives the founding year as 2002 rather than 2003 [11].

The company remains active. Its Swedish e-commerce site lists current products and pricing, and the brand was named in a January 2025 ELLE Sverige roundup of clinic whitening methods [9]. From its Gothenburg headquarters, Brilliant Smile says its products are sold to clinics and retailers in Sweden and abroad.

Origin

The founders are not named on the company's website. By its own account, Brilliant Smile started from the observation that teeth whitening in early-2000s Sweden was treated as a luxury, largely out of reach for the general public [2]. The company opened an initial whitening clinic on Södra vägen in Gothenburg, then shifted toward supplying whitening products to clinics across the country. The head office has remained in Gothenburg.

The brand traces part of its early visibility to Swedish television, citing appearances on programmes such as Extreme Makeover Sverige, Idol, Top Model Sverige and Big Brother, which it says helped establish it as "the choice of celebrities" [2]. This account comes from the company itself and is not independently documented.

Philosophy and positioning

Brilliant Smile frames teeth as part of a person's identity and something to maintain over a lifetime; its homepage tagline is "Kvalitetsprodukter för vita tänder" (quality products for white teeth). The company states that its aim is to offer effective whitening "without compromising safety," and positions itself as a professional-channel brand selling through clinics and partners rather than as a budget retail line. It describes itself as one of the largest players in teeth whitening on the Swedish market.

Products and innovation

The range spans toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, whitening strips and clinic treatments, organised into series including 0.32 Maximum Fluoride, HiWhite Charcoal and Whitening Oral Care. The company says the 0.32 Maximum Fluoride line was developed together with fluoride researchers and dentists [8]. Several proprietary names appear across the products and treatments, among them WhiteningEvo and WhiteningBoost toothpastes, HiWhite Charcoal, and an optional NanoSeal Total+ remineralisation step used in clinic whitening.

The active ingredients Brilliant Smile lists reflect that split between whitening and everyday oral care: hydrogen peroxide as the main whitening agent, sodium fluoride for cavity protection, hydroxyapatite to rebuild enamel, potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity, and Blue Covarine (CI 74160), an optical brightener that creates an immediate impression of whiteness without abrasion. The company explains whitening as an oxidation process in which hydrogen peroxide breaks down the organic stains left by food, coffee and tobacco, while the inorganic enamel is left unaffected.

On its clinic treatment, the company states that a single session gives on average seven shades whiter teeth, with results lasting one to five years depending on habits, and that the blue plasma light it uses is free of harmful wavelengths and cancer-causing UV rays [5]. It describes its formulations as pH-neutral and EU-approved.

Sustainability

Brilliant Smile says its products are entirely vegan and not tested on animals, and that they are not sold in markets that require animal testing [3]. On environmental practices, the company states that it takes responsibility for recycling packaging materials, prioritises digital communication over print, and works with suppliers to uphold human rights and good social and environmental conditions. The website names no third-party certifications, and does not specify where products are manufactured.

Recognition

In its January 2025 roundup of whitening methods, ELLE Sverige described Brilliant Smile as having "approved and safe" whitening treatments at clinics across Sweden, using safe levels of hydrogen peroxide and blue plasma light; the brand was listed among clinic options rather than singled out as a best-in-test [9]. In a 2021 comparison test by the Swedish outlet Baaam, a clinic treatment was assessed at a partner salon in Stockholm, where the tester reported roughly six shades lighter and a four-out-of-five rating, citing effectiveness and safety as strengths and cost and temporary sensitivity as drawbacks [10].

Current status

The brand is active. As of early 2025 it ran a functioning Swedish webshop with current product pricing and maintained Instagram and Facebook accounts, and the most recent independent mention is the ELLE Sverige feature from January 2025 [9]. Sweden remains its primary market, though the company states that it also exports to clinics and stores internationally.
