Summary

Overview

BUENOSON is a German foot-care line made up of two products, a foot balm and a foot-care oil, sold under the name of FRITZ ZILLY GmbH, a small natural-remedy and homeopathic medicine maker based in Baden-Baden [3]. It is not a stand-alone company but one of the cosmetic lines in Zilly's catalogue, which sits alongside herbal and homeopathic medicines, massage products and test kits used in alternative-medicine practice.

The line is built around plant extracts and plant oils, and its maker calls the balm "the long-proven foot cream with plant-based active ingredients". When and by whom BUENOSON was created is not documented; the dates usually given in connection with it belong to its parent company. The brand is active, with both products still offered by the maker and listed by an online pharmacy.

Ownership

BUENOSON belongs to FRITZ ZILLY GmbH, which presents the balm and the oil among its non-prescription cosmetic products with natural active ingredients [3]. A German online pharmacy lists the balm with Fritz Zilly GmbH as manufacturer and Buenoson as the brand [10]. No change of ownership of the line is documented.

Within Zilly's range, BUENOSON shares the cosmetic shelf with five other products: the DISCMIGON massage balm, an Indian frankincense cream, two frankincense essential oils (Indian and Arabian) and the MUNDRA oral-care product. The company says it now offers seven cosmetic products in total, covering foot care, massage, general skin care and oral care.

History of the parent company

Because no launch date for BUENOSON itself is known, the line's history is best read through that of its maker. FRITZ ZILLY was founded in Karlsruhe in 1958 by Fritz Zilly (1909–1990) [2]. According to the company's own account, the young firm set out to develop and sell natural remedies that were both well tolerated and effective. In 1964 it moved to its present site in Baden-Baden.

In 1987 the business became a GmbH, a German limited-liability company, and the founder handed it to his son, the pharmacist Jürgen Zilly, who has run it since as the second generation [2]. The company says it began with two ointment preparations and gradually grew to a range of eleven medicines. Its more recent development work, it adds, has shifted towards cosmetic products. The history page does not say whether BUENOSON was one of those first ointments, and the balm's description as "long-proven" gives no date.

Two later steps widened the business. In 1989 Zilly set up a contract-manufacturing division, producing medicines and cosmetics for other small and mid-sized pharmaceutical and cosmetics firms and for pharmacies [9]. In 1999 it took over MERIPHARM GmbH of Bühl, a company it had long produced for; the two firms have shared the Baden-Baden site ever since. In 2003 Zilly also took over distribution of the original VEGA test kits from Schiltach, which are used in bioelectronic testing methods such as the VEGATEST, electro-acupuncture according to Voll, and kinesiology.

The contract-manufacturing side holds an official licence under the German Medicines Act for non-sterile liquid medicines and homeopathic globules, and outside the medicines field the company can produce ointments, creams and gels. Its site includes what it calls a modern ointment-processing plant. No source states that the BUENOSON products are made there.

Philosophy and positioning

BUENOSON follows the same natural-remedy outlook that shapes the rest of Zilly's catalogue. The maker places the line under "cosmetic products with plant-based active ingredients" and describes each product as containing "high-quality plant extracts". The emphasis is on botanical ingredients, traditional plants and practical foot care rather than on fashion or trend-led skincare.

Reflexology is a recurring theme. Zilly presents the balm as suited to foot-reflexology massage and explains the idea in its own words: the soles of the feet carry a dense network of nerve endings, and massaging particular areas is said to benefit and strengthen internal organs such as the stomach, heart, liver and kidneys [4]. The company frames this as a way in which care for the feet also supports the well-being of the whole body. No study is cited for this statement.

The line is sold mainly through pharmacies. According to the maker, its products are available in every pharmacy and in selected naturopathic, chiropody and massage practices, as well as from sellers of natural products; some items can also be ordered directly by consumers [3]. The professional focus shows in the packaging: alongside the retail sizes, the company supplies trade customers with larger formats and sample packs.

Products

BUENOSON foot balm (Fußbalsam) is the line's headline product. It comes in 50 ml and 100 ml tubes for retail, while practitioners and resellers can also order a 25 ml sample pack, a 1,000 ml pump dispenser, a 1,000 ml refill and a sales display. The maker says the balm contains extracts of St John's wort, juniper, clove, birch, hops, gentian and male fern, together with avocado, wheat germ and peanut oils. Its published ingredient list also includes olive oil, garlic bulb juice and oakmoss extract.

The intended use is simple: a thin layer on feet and legs morning and evening, worked in well around the feet, with extra attention to areas of hard skin. Zilly says regular use keeps the skin of the feet soft and supple and helps prevent callus build-up. It goes further for one specific problem: painful hard skin that often forms over a deformed big-toe joint (hallux valgus) is, according to the company, sharply reduced after short-term use and in most cases disappears completely with intensive treatment [4]. These are the maker's own statements, made without reference to clinical testing.

The balm is described as containing natural active ingredients "without added preservatives" [4]. Its published ingredient list includes alcohol and formic acid, as well as petrolatum and paraffin wax, and it carries added fragrance (parfum) with the declared fragrance components citral, citronellol, coumarin, eugenol, limonene and linalool.

BUENOSON foot-care oil (Fußpflegeöl) is sold in a 100 ml bottle, with a 500 ml bottle and a 20 ml sample offered to the trade. It combines extracts of St John's wort, chamomile and calendula with olive, soybean and wheat germ oils and the essential oils of rosemary, juniper and thyme. The company recommends it after a foot bath, when it says the plant oils restore lipids to dry, cracked skin, and it credits the essential oils with giving the feet a fresh scent and stopping foot odour.

Zilly describes the oil as free of chemical additives and of synthetic colourants and preservatives, and as containing no synthetic fragrances [5]. Scent in the formula comes from the essential oils, and the ingredient list declares linalool, limonene and eugenol.

No third-party certifications are documented for either product.

Current status

BUENOSON is active. Both the foot balm and the foot-care oil appear on the maker's current product pages, and an online pharmacy currently lists the balm with Fritz Zilly GmbH as its manufacturer [10]. No new BUENOSON products or line-specific news have been announced. The parent company's most recent news item, dated 18 July 2025, concerned new test ampoules rather than the foot-care line [7]. No distribution outside Germany is documented.
