Overview
Bugatti is a German fashion and lifestyle company based in Herford, in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a family business run by the Brinkmann family, and its product range covers menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories, including a licensed fragrance line. The company remains active: its homepage carries a Spring/Summer 2026 collection, and the most recent identified fragrance launch dates to 2025 [1].
The name causes frequent confusion with the French car manufacturer of the same name, but the two are unrelated. This Bugatti is the apparel house owned by bugatti Holding Brinkmann GmbH & Co. KG, also of Herford [4]. On Glowjakt the brand appears through its fragrances, which are produced under licence by a third-party company rather than by the fashion house itself.

Origin & founders
The business was founded by Friedrich Wilhelm Brinkmann, who set up a contract clothing manufacturer for women's and men's wear in Löhne, near Herford, on 6 January 1947 [4]. Within a year he had presented a first collection of coats and trousers. The company dates its own founding to this point, using the line "Since 1947" across its communications [2].
The "bugatti" brand name, however, was introduced later: the company records that it launched the bugatti label in 1978, with the first consumer advertisement following about six years afterwards [4]. The 1947 date therefore marks the founding of the underlying Brinkmann firm, while 1978 marks the debut of the bugatti name; the company presents 1947 as its founding year.
Brinkmann's stated ambition, recorded by the company, was to "set standards with bugatti — throughout Germany and Europe." The firm has remained in family hands across three generations: the second generation, Klaus and Wolfgang Brinkmann, joined the management in 1986, and a third generation of the family entered the business from around 2009 onward [4].
History & milestones
The same year the second generation took over, 1986, the company began its first cooperation with Gore-Tex, the waterproof-fabric maker [4]. Licensing agreements over the following years allowed expansion into shoes and further product categories, and a full women's collection was developed alongside the original menswear.
In 2011 the company established bugatti Retail GmbH and expanded through its own stores and outlets, with Markus and Julius Brinkmann becoming managing partners [4]. In 2022 the group marked its 75th anniversary, describing itself at that point as "a genuine global player" and one of the more significant clothing companies in Germany [4].
Ownership
The corporate parent is bugatti Holding Brinkmann GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Herford [4]. The webshop and its operating entity are registered separately as bugatti GmbH, at the same Herford address on Hansastraße and listed at the District Court of Bad Oeynhausen [3]. According to the company's history, the holding also operates several other clothing brands alongside bugatti, namely Eduard Dressler, Wilvorst and Pikeur.
Philosophy & positioning
The company frames itself as a family-run fashion house built on long-term values rather than passing trends. It states that "quality, sustainability and responsibility" are matters of conviction for the firm, not trends, and points to "solidarity and close collaboration" within the family and with partners as central to how it works. Its foundational statement is summarised as "We are bugatti. Vision. Design. Since 1947."
Products & fragrance
The brand's core business is clothing — menswear and womenswear, footwear, and accessories such as luggage, bags, belts and hats. Fragrances sit within the accessories range and are the part of the business that reaches Glowjakt.
The fragrance line is not made in-house. In 2021, German trade outlet FashionNetwork reported that bugatti had awarded its fragrance licence to Luxess GmbH, a company based in Ratingen, which began distributing a men's fragrance range from late October that year [6]. According to the report, the line was sold through drugstores, the brand's own stores and its online shop, with women's fragrances planned to follow [6]. Julius Brinkmann, of the holding company, described the arrangement as "a new chapter in the product world of bugatti." The fragrance side has continued to expand, with new releases identified as recently as 2025.
Current status
Bugatti is an active company. Its website shows a current Spring/Summer 2026 fashion collection, and its licensed fragrance line remains in production, with the newest launch identified in 2025 [1]. The business is multi-regional in scope and, in its own 2022 description, characterises itself as a global operation [4].
