Summary

Overview

Callusan is a German professional foot-care brand based in Neuried, near Munich, and owned by the family company Greppmayr GmbH, which also trades internationally as Greppmayr Footcare GmbH. The brand specialises in skin care for the feet, hands and legs, built around a signature quick-absorbing "creme mousse" — an aerosol foam designed for dry, callused and stressed skin. Its products are aimed at both professional podiatrists and individual users.

The Callusan name dates to 2001, when Andreas Greppmayr — a podologist and the third generation of the family — reoriented the company's product range and launched the brand [10]. The wider Greppmayr foot-care business is considerably older: the family traces its lineage to 1925, when Josef Greppmayr began practising professional foot care, and the company presents itself as caring for foot health "for almost 100 years" [9]. The distinct Callusan brand, however, belongs to the later chapter.

Origin and founders

The story behind Callusan begins with Josef Greppmayr, who according to a 2025 industry history established a foot-care practice in Budapest in 1925, having concluded that foot care lacked proper medical attention [9]. The practice later moved to Munich. A second generation, Günther Greppmayr, joined in the 1950s and contributed to developing the company's preparations. The brand itself emerged under the third generation: the company records that Andreas Greppmayr reorganised the product assortment in 2001 and created Callusan [10].

Greppmayr describes the brand as inspired by the family's own podiatry practice, and frames its purpose around "sustainable foot health." The company is run from Hainbuchenring 4 in Neuried, with Andreas Greppmayr listed as managing director and the business registered in Munich (HRB 132880) [7].

Ownership

Callusan is one of three brands operated by Greppmayr GmbH, alongside Unguisan, a nail-care and nail-prosthetics line, and Kerasan, a range of callus-treatment products [9]. The Greppmayr name is shared with a separate podiatry clinic in the Munich area run by the same family; that practice is a distinct entity and is not the manufacturer of the brand. Trademark records list Callusan as a mark of Greppmayr Footcare GmbH, the name under which the company also operates internationally.

Products and innovation

Callusan's central product is its creme mousse, marketed as Cremeschaum. The company describes it as an oil-in-water emulsion turned into a foam through what it calls "a laborious production process," producing a fine-pored texture that is said to absorb quickly and without leaving a greasy film. Greppmayr states that it was a pioneer of this particular foam application more than twenty years ago, a development the company credits with making Callusan a recognised name in professional foot care.

The range is organised by skin condition rather than by ingredient, with separate lines for needs such as dry skin (hydro), very dry skin (extra), hardened skin and fissures (forte), sweaty feet (fresh), tired and heavy legs (vinum), and stressed hands (hand+), among others. The brand's stated tagline is "the perfect care for every skin type."

Sustainability

Several of the brand's environmental claims centre on its aerosol packaging. According to Callusan, the cans use propellants free of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and are made of recyclable aluminium. The company also says the air-tight sealing of the cans helps protect the contents from contamination, which it presents as a way of keeping the use of preservatives to a minimum.

Current status

Callusan is an active brand. Its most recent notable activity dates to 2025, when Greppmayr GmbH marked its 100-year centenary with a jubilee campaign themed "Podos are extraordinary" and a set of limited jubilee-edition products [9]. The brand operates primarily in the German and wider European professional foot-care market, sold through podiatry channels and retailers across several countries. No Wikipedia entry exists for the brand, and coverage outside the trade press is limited.
