Summary

Overview

Chopperhead is a French men's grooming brand specialising in hair and beard care. It was launched in 2017 at the MCB by Beauté Sélection trade show in Paris [7], with an aesthetic drawn from motorcycle culture, tattoo art and rock music. The brand was created by Eric Famechon, with Raphaël Perrier as artistic director [7], and is produced in France. It positions itself as "100% masculine, made in France" and trades on a raw, retro look rather than the clinical tone common to grooming lines.

The brand operates as a label of Cosmecare Lab, a French cosmetics company headed by Famechon, and is sold both directly online and through professional barbershop and beauty channels. As of 2026 it remains active, with a current product catalogue, recent launches and an ongoing wholesale programme.

Origin and founders

Chopperhead was founded by Eric Famechon, who is described as an enthusiast of motorcycle and underground culture and who heads the Cosmecare group. The brand made its public debut at the MCB by Beauté Sélection professional show in Paris in October 2017, presented alongside Raphaël Perrier as artistic director [7]. The trade magazine Estetica Magazine France covered the launch under the headline "Chopperhead, une nouvelle marque pour les hommes" and reported an initial range of 14 products: eight styling items for the hair, five beard-care products and one dual-purpose hair-and-beard shampoo.

From the outset the line was built around an "authentic, raw and rock" identity, intended to read the company's positioning as masculine beauty through an unconventional, anti-conformist lens. The brand describes its values as authenticity and anti-conformism, paired with a "free, virile" outlook and its French manufacturing.

Ownership

Chopperhead belongs to Cosmecare Lab, registered as a société par actions simplifiées (a simplified joint-stock company) with Eric Famechon listed as President Directeur Général [6]. Company filings record the firm under RCS Colmar B 342 683 000, with share capital of 150,000 euros. Cosmecare Lab sits within the wider Cosmecare International Group, a French company active in manufacturing and distributing hair-care products, which reports a workforce in the 51–200 range and a portfolio of related grooming and hair brands including Coiffance and Hairfax [8][9].

Sources differ on the company's address. The brand's own legal notice gives the registered headquarters as 6 rue de la Gare, 67220 Ville, in the Alsace region [6], which aligns with the brand's stated Alsace manufacturing. The French cosmetics directory Cosmed instead lists Cosmecare Lab at 3/5/7 Avenue Georges Méliès in Villiers-sur-Marne, near Paris [8] — an address close to the one given for the parent Cosmecare International Group [9]. The Alsace location is the officially registered seat; the Paris-area address appears to correspond to a secondary office or a related group entity.

Philosophy and positioning

The company presents Chopperhead as a men's grooming line that channels biker, tattoo and rock aesthetics, summed up in its tagline "Le meilleur du grooming français" (the best of French grooming). Rather than a clinical or minimalist look, it leans on a retro visual identity: black silk-screened tubes, coloured "retro-look" waxes and vintage combs presented in decorative cases.

Much of the brand's character comes from its cultural tie-ins. Its history page lists collaborations with tattoo and street artists — among them the French tattooist Tin-Tin, the hand-poke specialist Sybarite, and the illustrator Pedro Oyarbide — as well as the French metal band Mass Hysteria. The brand also names annual event partnerships with Rétromobile, the Mondial du Tatouage and the Hellfest festival, which reinforce its biker-and-rock framing. According to the retailer Bleu Libellule, the line has become a recognisable name in salons and barbershops, with what it describes as an atypical packaging identity [10].

Products and innovation

The range covers three areas: shaving and beard care, hair, and accessories [5]. Within those, the catalogue spans pre-shave oils, shaving gels, aftershave tonics and balms, beard oils and balms, a dual-purpose hair-and-beard shampoo, and a broad set of styling waxes, pomades and gels, alongside combs, brushes and branded merchandise. The brand flags several products as staples of the range, including its precision shaving gel, the hair-and-beard shampoo, and a leave-in beard oil it calls a bestseller.

Chopperhead describes its formulas as built around a revitalising complex of three botanicals — coffee, ginseng and guarana — selected, the company says, to energise the skin, strengthen hair and support growth. Vitamin E is used in its gels and styling products for antioxidant properties, while its waxes and gels rely on ingredients such as beeswax and white clay for a pliable hold. According to Bleu Libellule, the styling waxes are free of parabens, silicones and mineral oils [10]. The company says its complete range is produced in Alsace.

Sustainability

Chopperhead states that its products are not tested on animals and that all of its packaging is recyclable, framing this within what it calls an ethical approach to production. The third-party retailer Bleu Libellule similarly describes the brand as cruelty-free and made in France, and references recyclable metal packaging [10]. The brand holds no certifications listed in available sources.

Current status

The brand is active. Its direct-to-consumer site, chopper-head.com, carries a current catalogue with "Nouveautés" (new products) and "Meilleures ventes" (best sellers) sections, and at least one item — a vegetable-based beard balm — is marked as new [5]. Chopperhead also runs a business-to-business wholesale platform and is distributed through French beauty retailers such as Bleu Libellule. Its parent, Cosmecare International Group, reports 51–200 employees [9]. The documented distribution is primarily French and European; available sources record no confirmed activity beyond that footprint.
