Overview
Coco & Eve is a beauty brand founded in 2018 by Emily Hamilton and her husband Alexander Ostrowski [5]. It began as an Australian company and is now operated from Singapore, where its founders live; its product range spans self-tanning, haircare, suncare, body care and skincare, with a marketing identity built around the Indonesian island of Bali. In July 2024 a majority stake in the brand was acquired by Soleil Collective, a platform backed by the Texas private-equity firm Gauge Capital, in a deal valued at over $100 million [5][6]. The brand continues to trade under its own name following the acquisition.
Origin & founders
According to Australian trade publication Retail Beauty, Coco & Eve was founded in 2018 by Emily Hamilton and her husband Alexander Ostrowski, who funded the launch by selling their home and investing their savings [5]. The couple were inspired by their travels in Bali, and the brand has kept that connection at the centre of its identity, describing the island as its "birthplace." Sources differ on who started the company: the industry directory TheIndustry.beauty states the brand was founded by "childhood friends Jamie-Lee and Lorna," yet the same entry lists Emily Hamilton as founder under its executives [8]. Two independent and more authoritative accounts — the Retail Beauty report and the acquirer's own announcement — name Hamilton and Ostrowski, and the directory's alternative is generally treated as a data error.
Three sources independently date the founding to 2018, and that year is recorded here, although it is worth noting the brand's own website carries no founding history, founder names or headquarters statement in its public pages.
Ownership
In July 2024, Soleil Collective acquired a majority stake in Coco & Eve, with the transaction valued at more than $100 million [5][6]. Soleil Collective is backed by Gauge Capital, a private-equity firm based in Texas. In its announcement, Gauge Capital framed the deal as a way for Coco & Eve to expand its product lines and reach a wider international audience through Soleil Collective's platform [6]. Reporting at the time placed the brand's projected 2024 revenue at over $120 million, a 35% year-on-year increase [5].
Records of the brand's corporate structure are not fully consistent. TheIndustry.beauty lists the parent company as Supernova Pte. Ltd and gives a Singapore headquarters address [8]; this is most likely the pre-acquisition operating entity, with Soleil Collective the majority owner from mid-2024 onward.
Philosophy & positioning
Coco & Eve presents itself as a Bali-inspired brand that pairs natural botanicals with laboratory-made ingredients. On its sustainability page, the company says it "scour[s] the globe to find the best quality natural botanicals, then pair[s] these with superior laboratory-made ingredients," and explains its use of synthetic fragrance on the grounds that natural fragrances such as essential oils "can be irritable on the skin." The brand markets its formulas as "no-nasties," stating they are free from sulfates, parabens, petroleum, phthalates, mineral oils and palm oil, and describes itself as cruelty-free and vegan. No third-party certifications were identified in the brand's published material to support these claims.
Products & innovation
The brand's best-known product is the Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque, the item it launched with in 2018 and which TheIndustry.beauty calls a "cult-favourite hair masque" [8]. A Refinery29 review described the masque as combining raw virgin coconut, fig, shea butter, linseed and argan oils, and noted it had accumulated over 6,500 five-star ratings [7]. Coco & Eve attributes the masque's performance to a proprietary "AquaSeal" feature, which the company says strengthens and repairs hair by minimising split and broken ends [7]. Other signature products include the Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam, a self-tanning product, and the Frizz Fix & Pro Shine Mist.
The range is sold directly through the brand's own site and through retailers including Sephora, Ulta and Boots, with the company stating that it offers worldwide delivery where no local stockist is available.
Sustainability
The company organises its sustainability messaging around four stated pillars: responsible sourcing, a zero-waste philosophy, lower-carbon shipping, and cruelty-free and vegan formulation. It also says its products are 100% microbead-free, using exfoliant particles it describes as natural and biodegradable. No specific manufacturing locations are disclosed in the brand's published material.
Current status
Coco & Eve is an active, growing brand operating under acquired ownership. A majority stake passed to Soleil Collective in 2024, but it continues to trade independently under its own name. Its e-commerce site remains live, carrying a 2026 copyright notice, and the brand maintains global retail distribution.
