Overview
COMIS is a Swedish beauty-technology brand founded in Stockholm in 2021 [8]. It centres on a single idea: turning self-tan into a clean, capsule-based routine built around a handheld misting device rather than a bottle of lotion. The company set out, in its own words, to "reinvent self tan, simplify routines and celebrate natural beauty," and frames its purpose as delivering "small packets of self-confidence."
The brand was started by three former colleagues from the watch company Daniel Wellington — Dennis Ericsson, David Lauwiner and Filip Tysander — who had worked there on technology development and international expansion [9]. That background shapes COMIS's pitch, which borrows openly from consumer electronics: trade press has described its ambition as creating a "Nespresso for beauty," and one feature framed it as "The Apple of Fake Tan" [8][9].

Origin and founders
According to an interview in the trade publication Scandinavian Mind, the founding trio previously focused on tech development and internationalization at Daniel Wellington [9]. Filip Tysander had earlier founded that watch brand in 2011. COMIS grew out of the premise, as the company puts it, that "self tan shouldn't be complicated, messy, or inconsistent."
The first product was True Tan, a self-tanning treatment. In the Scandinavian Mind interview, the company described the formula as using nanotechnology droplets roughly 50 times smaller than those of a standard spray, with the aim of an even result that avoids the usual self-tan smell and works across skin types [9].
Products and technology
COMIS is organised around a device-and-capsule model rather than individual bottled products. The hardware is the MultiMist, a handheld applicator the company describes as "powered by nanomist technology" and designed to deliver a streak-free tan "in seconds." Treatments are sold as sealed capsules that slot into the device; each holds five millilitres and reseals when removed, allowing several applications per capsule.
Beyond self-tan, the same system carries a small line of skincare capsules. These include Supreme Serum, described by the company as a hydration serum; Multi Essence, presented as a multipurpose essence offering blue-light protection; and Uniform-C Serum, a vitamin C treatment. The brand positions the device as a shared platform for "self tan and skincare – in one smart device paired with capsule treatments."
The self-tan formula relies on dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and erythrulose, the two sugars commonly used to develop colour on the skin; COMIS states that both are naturally derived and EcoCert certified [4]. Supporting ingredients named by the company include glycerin and aloe leaf extract for hydration, with vitamins E and C as antioxidants. The skincare capsules feature ingredients such as niacinamide and ascorbyl glucoside. COMIS says the device was developed alongside an unnamed med-tech lab, while the skincare formulas were created and produced by dermatologists in Sweden [8].
Philosophy and positioning
COMIS presents itself as a brand "combining innovative technology with contemporary beauty," with simplicity and quality as stated priorities. Its tagline is "Sun-kissed, in seconds." The broader framing — a reusable device paired with refill capsules — is also tied to the company's sustainability argument: that buying fewer, longer-lasting items beats single-use alternatives.
On ingredients and ethics, the company describes its products as "vegan, cruelty free, paraben free, gluten free, non-comedogenic, sulphate free and nut allergy free" [2]. It also splits manufacturing by category, stating that skincare is developed and produced in Sweden while the self-tan is produced in the United States [2].
Sustainability
COMIS frames sustainability mainly around its capsule format. The company says the capsules are made from "100% recycled PP plastic (polypropylene)" that can be recycled again as plastic, and that it is exploring bio-sourced PLA plastic as an alternative [2]. It also states that shipping materials have been adapted to reduce unnecessary filling. In the Scandinavian Mind interview, the company said it planned a capsule-return scheme offering discounts on future purchases [9]. The underlying claim is consistent across these sources: that a refillable device generates less waste than repeatedly buying new bottled products.
Current status
COMIS is an active brand. As of 2026 it operates a direct-to-consumer online store that lists more than 1,500 customer reviews, and maintains an active presence on Instagram and TikTok under the handle @officialcomis. Founded in 2021, it remains a young company still building out both its product line and its retail reach across Europe.
