Summary

Overview

Complidermol is a Spanish hair-health brand that sells food supplements and topical products aimed at hair loss. It was created inside Reig Jofre, a pharmaceutical company with its roots in Barcelona, and it remains part of that group today [2]. Its best-known line is Complidermol 5 Alfa, which the company says it first launched in 2007. The current range pairs capsules taken by mouth with a shampoo and a scalp lotion, an approach the brand describes as "multi-factor".

The brand is active. In 2026 its Spanish website announced a reworked "Advanced Formula" of its main capsules and a new lotion, and the brand is building a presence in other European countries. Much of what is publicly known about Complidermol comes from the company itself, including its efficacy figures, several of which come from studies that were unpublished at the time of writing.

Origin

Complidermol has no named founders. According to the brand, it "started life in Reig Jofre pharmaceutical laboratory" and grew out of the company's work on hair [2]. Complidermol presents itself as a hair specialist backed by a drug maker rather than as a cosmetics house, and it leans on that link in almost everything it says about itself.

No source gives a founding year for the brand as such, and the two dates the company offers do not line up neatly. Its homepage dates the launch of Complidermol 5 Alfa to 2007 [1]. Its About page, meanwhile, says the team has focused on understanding hair "for over 20 years now", which would place the start of that work before 2007 [2]. The 2007 date refers to a product launch rather than to the creation of the brand, so this article treats the founding year as unknown and lists 2007 as the first dated milestone.

History and milestones

The first dated step in the brand's history is the 2007 launch of Complidermol 5 Alfa. The company still frames its story around that date, saying it has been "looking after your hair" since then.

A decade later the line gained an updated version. In March 2017, the blog of The Belgravia Centre, a UK hair-loss clinic, reported on a new product called Complidermol 5α Plus, developed by what it described as the "Spanish company Reig Jofre" [6]. The product was aimed chiefly at women after menopause with female pattern hair loss, a common genetic form of thinning that follows a typical pattern on the scalp. The blog quoted promotional material calling it "the first dietary supplement for female androgenetic alopecia" to tackle not only the known hormonal factor but also oxidative and inflammatory factors. That "first" is the company's own claim, as reported, not an independent finding. The same post noted that Reig Jofre "claims to be a market-leader in Spain".

The next visible change came with what the Spanish website calls the Advanced Formula of the Complidermol 5 Alfa PLUS Capsules. The site does not give an exact launch date. It does tie the new formula to an efficacy study dated December 2025 and to a new lotion whose study is credited to Reig Jofre in 2026, which places the relaunch in late 2025 or 2026 [1].

Alongside the core line, the brand also sells a product called Complidermol Ferro, which appears on its Spanish-language FAQ page.

Ownership

Complidermol belongs to Reig Jofre, a Spanish pharmaceutical group. The brand's own site says it is "part of Reig Jofre, which has almost one hundred years of pharmaceutical experience" [2]. No sale, acquisition or change of owner has been reported; the brand appears to have stayed with the company that created it.

Reig Jofre describes its business as developing, producing, marketing and distributing health products, ranging from specialised and critical treatments to prevention [8]. Its corporate website carries shareholder and stock information, including dividend details and regulatory communications to the CNMV. Complidermol is one consumer-facing brand within this wider pharmaceutical business. No sister brands are documented in connection with it.

The link to the parent goes beyond branding. A 2018 article in the Spanish journal Más Dermatología compared two food supplements designed to block 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme linked to hormonal hair loss, in women with female pattern hair loss [7]. Two of its five authors were affiliated with Laboratorios Reig Jofre in Barcelona and Madrid, alongside researchers from Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid, the University of Granada and Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. The publication listing does not name the products that were tested, so it cannot be tied directly to Complidermol, but it shows the parent company working in the same area of research.

Philosophy and positioning

Complidermol's tagline is "In balance with your hair". The brand's central idea is that hair loss rarely has a single cause. It lists hormones, genetics, nutrition and stress among the factors that can weaken hair or make it fall out, and says it works on "the different causes of hair loss" at once. In practice this means pairing a supplement taken by mouth with products applied to the scalp.

The company sums up its aim in plain terms: to maintain the health of hair and restore it if necessary, "whatever stage it's at". It organises its message around three values: thorough knowledge of hair, solutions with pharmaceutical backing, and support at every stage of life. Under the second, it says its products are developed with strict quality control and scientific evidence, and to what it calls the strictest pharmaceutical standards.

The brand speaks to both women and men. Its homepage walks readers through common situations rather than medical terms: thinning that runs in the family, shedding during stressful periods or seasonal changes, weak and dull hair linked to heavy sport, a vegetarian diet or heavy periods, hair loss after pregnancy, and changes after menopause. It also describes an educational role, saying it wants to help people understand what is happening to their hair so they can make informed decisions.

To support its pharmaceutical image, the brand features health professionals on its site. These include the dermatologists Dr. Anna Puigdollers and Dr. Virginia Velasco, the latter described as specialising in trichology, the study of hair and scalp, as well as pharmacists who share advice. Complidermol also states on its homepage that it is recommended by dermatologists.

Distribution follows the same pharmaceutical logic. The brand directs buyers to pharmacies through a pharmacy locator, and it also sells online, including through Amazon.

Products and innovation

The core of the range is Complidermol 5 Alfa PLUS, sold as a three-step routine that the brand says addresses multi-factor hair loss in women and men.

- Complidermol 5 Alfa PLUS Capsules are a food supplement that the company says helps keep hair strong and thick "from within". They are the product reworked as the Advanced Formula. - Complidermol 5 Alfa PLUS Shampoo is described as helping to reduce hair loss and strengthen hair. The brand recommends it for oily scalps. - Complidermol 5 Alfa PLUS Lotion is a non-greasy scalp treatment that the brand calls a "triple-action formula", intended to reduce hair loss, strengthen hair and stimulate growth. It is the newest product in the line.

The brand draws a clear legal line between these products. Its FAQ explains that the capsules and tablets are food supplements, while the shampoo and lotion are cosmetics [4]. The company also says its supplements are plant-based and suitable for vegans.

The capsule formula is built around plant extracts long used in natural remedies. It combines saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), the bark of the African plum tree (Pygeum africanum) and pumpkin seed (Cucurbita pepo) with MSM, which the brand describes as a natural source of sulphur, and other nutrients, including biotin. According to the company, saw palmetto has been clinically studied for its effect on 5-alpha reductase. The Advanced Formula adds two branded ingredients that the site describes as patented: an extract of Scutellaria baicalensis rich in baicalin, sold as Scutell'Up, and a saffron extract, Safr'Inside. The range also lists turmeric-derived exosomes under the name Capilia Longa. The site does not say that Reig Jofre owns these patents, and no proprietary technologies of the brand's own are documented.

Science and clinical claims

Complidermol puts clinical results at the centre of its marketing, and the evidence it cites varies in strength.

The oldest figures come from the 2017 launch of Complidermol 5α Plus. The Belgravia Centre reported that, according to trial data released by the company, women taking capsules with saw palmetto and pygeum saw the number of growing hairs rise by about 6.1 per cent over a 16-week trial, against about 0.6 per cent in a placebo group [6]. Resting hairs fell by about 6.2 per cent, compared with about 0.5 per cent on placebo. The blog set these results against minoxidil, a topical drug for hair loss. The clinic sells its own minoxidil treatments and hair supplements, so it was not a neutral observer.

For the Advanced Formula, the brand's homepage says that 9 out of 10 users find their hair thicker after one month, with 93 per cent noticing more volume and 86 per cent better texture. The footnote describes the study behind these numbers as exploratory, open-label and run at a single centre, dated 11 December 2025, and as an unpublished report [1]. In an open-label study the participants know what they are taking. A separate reference on the homepage credits Zurko Research SL and Reig Jofre Group SA with an evaluation of the new formulation against placebo in hair loss of mixed causes.

The lotion's results are also based on user perception. The site says results can be seen after one month, but its footnote refers to an ongoing study by Reig Jofre from 2026 whose data had not yet been published [1].

No independent, peer-reviewed study that names Complidermol has been documented. No third-party certifications or awards are documented either.

Current status

Complidermol is active. As of 2026, its Spanish website carries a 2026 copyright notice and announces the Advanced Formula of the capsules and the new lotion, and the brand runs accounts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.

The brand is centred on Spain but is extending into other European markets. Its Spanish site offers a country selector for Portugal and Poland, and a Polish site went up as a "Coming Soon" page carrying a 2025 copyright, presenting Complidermol as "the pioneering, expert brand in hair health developed by Reig Jofre" [5].
