Summary

Overview

DermaAktiv is a small German skincare line of three products: a balm for hardened skin and calluses, a cream aimed at pigment and age spots, and a hyaluronic acid booster sold in single-use ampoules. It belongs to Hydas GmbH & Co. KG [7], a family-owned company in Frankfurt am Main that is better known for back supports, incontinence underwear, heat pads and other everyday health aids. All three DermaAktiv products are labelled "Made in Germany" and are sold directly through the Hydas webshop.

The line has no standalone brand identity of its own. There is no separate DermaAktiv website or social media account, no published founding date and no named creator, and the products sit inside the parent company's personal-care range rather than under a brand umbrella. What gives DermaAktiv its character is the company behind it: a manufacturer of medical textiles turned broad health-aid supplier, now extending that everyday-help approach to skin.

Ownership

DermaAktiv is a product line of Hydas GmbH & Co. KG, whose name and Frankfurt address appear on the balm's instruction leaflet [7]. The company describes itself as a family business from Frankfurt that makes tested aids for daily life, with a focus on the back, joints, bladder weakness and "everywhere the body needs a little support" [2]. Hydas sells the DermaAktiv products under its own name, and they are filed in its webshop as everyday beauty aids.

When the DermaAktiv line itself was created, and who developed its formulas, is not documented. The company does not say whether it formulates the products in-house or brings them in from a contract manufacturer; the only manufacturing information is the "Made in Germany" label on each product. Service and warranty enquiries for the balm are routed through a fulfilment partner in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg [7].

History & milestones

The parent company's history begins in 1970, when founder Siegfried Feige, previously a self-employed sales representative for Aponti and Milupa, bought a sewing business in Hofgeismar [2]. Operating out of the town hall, the business, then called Hydas GmbH, employed more than 70 people making women's briefs, incontinence pants and bandages. When the town hall was renovated for the "Hessentag", Feige built a new 1,200-square-metre factory hall in Hofgeismar, which opened in 1975.

The company grew from there as a family business. Siegfried's son Jürgen Feige joined the firm, and Hydas later began working to the DIN EN 13485 quality standard for medical devices, in line with European medical-device rules. As the range kept expanding, a further 1,500-square-metre warehouse was built behind the Hofgeismar factory. Administration and logistics were later reorganised, with logistics outsourced to the company Atrikom in Ginsheim/Gustavsburg.

The third generation has since moved into management. Siegfried's granddaughter Julie Feige joined after completing a work-study degree and took on management responsibility, and his grandson Tommy Feige joined as managing director in 2019 [2]. The company now describes itself as a family business "in its third generation" and says that what began as a maker of medical textiles has become a broad range of tested everyday aids.

None of these milestones refer to DermaAktiv directly. They describe the parent company; the skincare line's own start date is not documented, and Hydas's 1970 founding should not be read as the founding year of DermaAktiv.

Philosophy & positioning

There is no separate DermaAktiv brand statement. The positioning comes from Hydas, which says that health and well-being are the foundation of an active, self-determined life, and that its aim is to help with "products that really help in everyday life" [2]. As a self-described specialist in the health sector, the company says its goal is to maintain and improve its customers' quality of life. It also stresses that it does not want to be an "anonymous brand" but a family company that understands its customers.

Within that frame, the DermaAktiv product copy leans on three recurring themes. The first is plant extracts: willow bark, sage, thyme and calendula in the balm, and an extract of Phyllanthus emblica, a fruit used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, in the cream. The second is German manufacture, which appears in every product title. The third is what the formulas leave out: the balm and the cream are both described as free of mineral oils and petroleum jelly.

The line is aimed at practical skin concerns rather than at a beauty routine as such. The balm addresses rough, cracked skin on the feet, hands, elbows and knees; the cream targets uneven tone and age spots on the face, neck, décolleté and hands; and the booster is presented as a quick smoothing treatment for fine lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead. Hydas's wider range of medical aids gives this a health-care flavour, and the balm in particular is pitched at people with diabetes and others with sensitive or problem skin.

Products & innovation

The Pflegebalsam zur Hornhautreduktion (care balm for callus reduction, 30 ml) is the best documented of the three. According to the company, its plant formula with willow bark, sage, thyme and calendula reduces callus build-up by up to 75 percent in 28 days [4]. Hydas explains that willow bark has a keratolytic effect, meaning it helps soften and loosen hardened skin, while sage and thyme are described as antibacterial and regenerating and calendula as soothing. Its ingredient list also includes urea and salicylic acid.

The balm is meant to be applied thinly morning and evening, and users are told not to remove the hardened skin mechanically while using it, because the balm is meant to dissolve it on its own. The company says the balm is suitable for diabetic foot care and can be used on hardened skin around the stump area of people who wear prostheses. Its instruction leaflet states that effectiveness and tolerability have been dermatologically tested, warns against contact with the eyes and mucous membranes, and advises against use on children under three [7]. The leaflet is printed in nine European languages.

The Hautbildregulierende Pflegecreme (skin-tone regulating care cream, 30 ml) is built around an extract of Phyllanthus emblica, which the company says is known in Ayurvedic medicine for its antioxidant and skin-brightening properties. Hydas presents the cream as a moisturiser that lightens pigment and age spots and evens out skin tone, and lists, under the heading "naturally effective – clinically proven", a reduction in age spots and pigment marks of up to 23 percent in six weeks [5]. The company recommends it for women and men with uneven or sun-damaged skin, applied morning and evening to cleansed skin, and describes its light texture as suitable under make-up. Alongside coconut oil and beeswax, the ingredient list includes perfume and the UV filter ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate.

The Feuchtigkeits-Booster mit straffender Wirkung (moisture booster with firming effect) comes as ten 2 ml ampoules. Its formula combines sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, with aloe leaf juice and an extract of the red alga Porphyridium cruentum. The company calls it an instant-effect serum and states that it reduces wrinkles by up to 39 percent within 60 minutes, a result it describes as clinically confirmed [6]. It is applied by tapping the contents of an ampoule into the skin, either before make-up or as an overnight treatment. Hydas says the booster contains no fragrance, emulsifiers or animal-derived ingredients and has not been tested on animals.

The percentage claims for all three products come from the company itself. Hydas has not published the studies behind them, such as how many people took part or which institute carried out the testing. No third-party certifications, such as cruelty-free or natural-cosmetics seals, are documented for the line, and the animal-testing statement applies to the booster only. The "free from" claims are also product-specific rather than line-wide: the balm and the cream both contain beeswax, and the cream contains perfume.

Current status

DermaAktiv is active. As of October 2026, all three products were listed in the Hydas webshop, and the callus balm was shown as in stock [4]. The line is sold directly by its parent company; whether it is also carried by other retailers or sold outside Germany is not documented. No awards, press coverage or independent reviews of DermaAktiv are on record.
