Dr. Brandt

Dr. Brandt is an American dermatologist-founded skincare brand based in Miami, Florida. It was created in 1995 by the cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Fredric Brandt [3], who built its products around the idea that patients should be able to maintain the results of in-office procedures at home. The company calls this category "dermaceutical" skincare and sums up its positioning in the phrase "high-performance skincare, without the appointment."

The brand still trades as Dr. Brandt Skincare on its consumer storefront, though in March 2023 it reintroduced itself under the name Dr. Brandt Integrative Dermatology [5]. The two names coexist: trade press reported the rebrand, while the live site and domain continue to operate as Dr. Brandt Skincare [1]. The brand remains active, sold through retailers such as Sephora and Macy's.

The brand grew directly out of the clinical career of Dr. Fredric Brandt (1949-2015). According to the company, he began in cancer research at Sloan-Kettering, studying how ingredients such as green tea and vitamins affect cells, before becoming a cosmetic dermatologist known for non-invasive treatments. He was an early adopter of botulinum toxin and fillers, and was nicknamed the "Baron of Botox" by W magazine [4]. As patients asked for ways to keep up their professional results between visits, Brandt began formulating skincare meant to mimic those treatments.

The founding date is recorded differently depending on the source. The brand's own pages and trade coverage place the skincare line's founding in 1995 [3]. Wikipedia, by contrast, dates Brandt's Miami dermatology practice to 1982 and his New York City practice to 1998 [4] — but these refer to his clinical practices rather than the skincare brand itself, which is consistently dated to 1995.

Brandt died in 2015 [4]. In the same year the Dr. Brandt Foundation was established in his memory, dedicated to mental-health awareness and to reducing stigma around depression and suicide prevention.

Dr. Brandt presents itself as clinically inspired skincare focused on "biological performance" rather than cosmetics alone, with the tagline "Take The Doctor Home." Its stated mission is to provide at-home solutions that imitate professional dermatological procedures. The company frames this through what it calls "integrative dermatology" — an approach it describes as addressing environmental, biological and psychological factors in skin health, rather than surface appearance alone [5].

The brand also positions itself within clean-beauty standards. It says its products are vegan, cruelty-free and "consciously clean," and that it excludes more than 1,700 ingredients it considers to have questionable safety data, among them sulfates, synthetic fragrance, parabens, phthalates, hydroquinone and mineral oil.

The range is organised into signature collections, several named for the cosmetic procedures they are meant to stand in for. Needles No More and Pores No More are among the best known, alongside lines such as Bright This Way, Dare To Age and the Microdermabrasion exfoliators. Hero products include No More Baggage, aimed at under-eye bags, and a pore-refining primer.

Formulas draw on ingredients including neuropeptides, GABA, several forms of vitamin C, salicylic and glycolic acids, hyaluronic acid, retinol and ceramides. The company markets a number of proprietary technologies, among them Filmatrix Technology, OXIBLOCK-SF and C Scription. It says all products are dermatologist-tested across skin types and tones with clinically proven efficacy, and cites a partnership with the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine [2].

The Microdermabrasion Gentle Face Exfoliator received an Allure Best of Beauty Award in 2022 [3].

Through a program it calls Dare To Care, the brand says 90% of its new packaging uses recyclable glass, PP or PE plastic, with screw caps and flip tops made from bio-based plastic derived from sugarcane waste and cartons that are FSC-certified and fully recyclable. It also describes biodegradable formulations and the use of zero-waste ingredients sourced from plant by-products. No third-party certification body is named in the brand's published commitments.

The brand is active. Its most prominent recent milestone was the March 2023 reintroduction as Dr. Brandt Integrative Dermatology, which came with reformulated vegan and cruelty-free products, a no-list of 1,700 ingredients, and the rollout of the Needles No More franchise [5]. At that point the company hired its first medical experts since the founder's death — a dermatologist, a psycho-dermatologist, a nutritionist and an aesthetician — and was led by chief executive Stéphane Colleu, with industry sources projecting it would exceed $20 million in volume during 2023 [5].
