Overview
Dr. Hauck is a German brand of certified natural skincare made by Dr. Hauck R&D GmbH, a small research and development company in Kempten, in the Allgäu. It is led by Dr. David Hauck, a pharmaceutical chemist and the company's managing director, while Brigitte Hauck, also trained in pharmaceutical chemistry, runs its laboratory. The range covers face care, cleansing and body care, plus a separate line grouped under the heading MED, with products for skin going through cancer treatment and for very sensitive, easily irritated skin.
The brand sums up its approach as "Ultra compatible. Cosmetically effective." Its formulas leave out fragrance entirely, mostly do without emulsifiers, and pair mild cream bases with an active-ingredient complex that, according to the company, was developed in its own research institute. The products carry the NCS (Natural Cosmetics Standard) label, and the brand is active.
Origin & founders
The brand is closely tied to the scientific career of its founder. David Hauck holds a doctorate in medical science (Dr. rer. medic.) and a degree in pharmaceutical chemical engineering. His company biography says he spent decades in research and development departments working on natural cosmetics and medicines, and that numerous publications on the safety and efficacy of natural substances came out of his work. It describes him as a member of several dermatological research societies, a founding scientist at one of the large natural-cosmetics certification bodies, and the appointed member or chair of various scientific advisory boards. The same text says he lectures internationally, appears in the media as a beauty expert and has received international awards for developing new active ingredients, though none of those awards is named.
Brigitte Hauck shares the pharmaceutical-chemistry background and, according to the company, also has decades of research experience in natural cosmetics and medicines. Her work focuses on testing how effective and how safe natural cosmetics are. The brand's English brochure lists her as Head of R&D and David Hauck as Managing Director and CEO.
Accounts of who founded the business differ. The company's German-language about page names David Hauck as the founder of Dr. Hauck R&D GmbH and presents Brigitte Hauck as the head of its laboratory [2]. A sponsored 2020 product review on the Beauty-Blog Berlin instead names Brigitte and David Hauck together as the founders [12].
The brand itself gives no launch year. Dr. Hauck R&D GmbH, the company behind it, was entered in the commercial register of the Kempten district court in July 2015, with David Hauck as managing director [15]. The company describes a longer arc, saying it has been researching and developing products "for around 20 years" [1].
History & milestones
The earliest dated piece of brand activity is a cosmetic study that, according to the ingredients page, Dr. Hauck R&D GmbH carried out in October 2015. The business combines two roles. Its corporate website presents it as a specialist in research, development, production and quality assurance for natural cosmetics and natural remedies, offering research on essential oils and natural raw materials, the development of aromatherapy products, and work on oxidation and antioxidants. The consumer brand sits alongside that service work as the company's own product line.
The company's charitable focus has shifted over time. An older English brochure tied every purchase to a children's hospital in Niger that the aid organisation humedica has run since 2009, with a focus on care for mothers, children and midwifery. A company profile on the sustainability directory Lifeverde names the same project in Kollo, Niger. By 2026 the brand's about page instead linked each product to humedica's medical work in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, where the charity helps people affected by conflict there and in neighbouring Afar and Amhara.
In May 2025 Brigitte Hauck was registered as an authorised signatory (Prokura) of the company [15].
Ownership
Dr. Hauck is not part of a larger beauty group. The brand belongs to Dr. Hauck R&D GmbH, a founder-led company whose registered purpose covers the consulting, production and distribution of raw materials and finished products for health care, beauty care and food. It is a small operation: the Lifeverde profile lists between one and ten employees.
Sources give different addresses for the company. The brand's legal notice and the corporate research site both place it at Heisinger Strasse in Kempten [7]. The company-information service North Data lists the registered address in the neighbouring municipality of Sulzberg [15]. The older Lifeverde profile gives an address in Wiggensbach, which appears to be an earlier location [13].
Philosophy & positioning
The brand pitches itself at women with sensitive skin. Its ingredients page opens with the question "Gentle and effective?" and answers that the two can go together. The company calls its products "Better Aging" skincare, and it describes itself as one of the "pioneers of certified premium natural cosmetics". Two values recur across its material: tolerance by the skin and visible effect.
According to the brochure, the company uses "carefully selected, mild raw materials", omits perfume and mostly avoids emulsifiers; its ingredients page adds that six products are entirely emulsifier-free. Every product in the line is made with untreated Alpine spring water, which the brand describes as rich in minerals. Production takes place in a small workshop under the conditions used for pharmaceuticals, the company says, and its MED pages describe the products as made and filled by hand to pharmacy-tested laboratory standards.
Retailers repeat this framing. The German online shop Vitaleen describes the brand's approach as gentle care with maximum tolerance, built on natural ingredients and scientifically tested active substances [14].
The brand sells through its own online shop and a separate business-to-business shop, and it invites trade partners to stock the range. Brochures are available in Italian, English and Russian.
Products & innovation
The core of the range is what Dr. Hauck calls its Better Aging active-ingredient complex, a four-part mix the company describes as a "Wunderpaket", or bundle of wonders. The four parts are an antioxidant blend, which the brand says reflects 15 years of antioxidant research and protects the cream itself from oxidation; a moisture depot of three hyaluronic acids; an amino-acid blend modelled on the skin's natural moisturising factor; and an extract of the resurrection plant, also known as the rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica), which the brand describes as coming from the Dead Sea region. Other named actives include photolyase, which the brand links to DNA repair; astaxanthin; superoxide dismutase; a Maclura extract offered as an alternative to retinol; and StoppOx, an ingredient the company says has been patented.
The face-care system is organised in three steps. Cleansing covers a Cleanser and a Micellar Water, followed by a Toner. The Better Aging creams, sorted by skin type, are Water Cream, Beauty Fluid, 7 Day Cream and Night Cream. A special-care tier adds a Calming Serum, a Lifting Serum and a DNA Repair Serum enriched with astaxanthin, and a Vitamin Oil Booster with raspberry-seed stem cells. The shop lists Eye & Lip DNA Repair, 7 Day Cream, DNA Repair Serum and the Hyaluron Express Eye Pad as its best-sellers. Body care and a prebiotic vitamin hand cream round out the consumer range.
The MED products form two sub-lines. The oncological line, described as gentle companions for skin sensitised by therapy, is intended for use before, during and after cancer treatment. Its products include Onko Strahlen Gel for skin exposed to radiotherapy, Onko Betulin Gel Pur, Onko Körper Creme, Onko Akne Gel, Onko Akut Spray and Onko Dusch Gel. These formulas are deliberately reduced: free of harsh preservatives and mineral oils, and without vitamins A or C. The dermatological line targets barrier-impaired skin prone to atopic eczema, dryness, tightness or redness. It is built around betulin from birch bark and includes Derma Betulin Creme Pur, Derma Betulin Salbe Akut, Derma Milde Dusche and Derma Betulin Körperöl.
Science & innovation
Research is central to how the company presents itself. Dr. Hauck says that more than 70 studies and over 10 patents fed into its skincare range [1], although the patents are not listed individually on the brand site. North Data's register summary shows several utility-patent filings by the company between 2015 and 2025 relating to antioxidant compositions and aloe vera products [15].
The brochure states that studies have shown the products refine and improve the look of the skin, with visible wrinkle reduction and added moisture as immediate effects. The company also says all its products are tested on people in dermatological clinics. For the oncology line, it reports that Onko Strahlen Gel was dermatologically tested and assessed at a university clinic for its suitability as skincare during radiation therapy; the clinic is not named [5].
Some ingredient claims are stated in strong terms. The brochure says astaxanthin is 6,000 times more effective than vitamin C at protecting against free radicals [8]. Claims of this kind come from the company and its own research institute.
Sustainability
Dr. Hauck's products are certified under the NCS (Natural Cosmetics Standard). The company says the label is backed by independent testing, rated very good by the label portal Labelonline and recognised by the German natural-foods trade association Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren [3]. It also states that all its products are certified vegan and that it does not test on animals, though it does not name a vegan certifier.
On packaging and production, the brand says that all its packaging comes from the Alpine region, mostly glass with a minimal share of plastic, and it describes its supply chain as free of "production tourism". Production runs on hydroelectric power, shipping is climate-neutral through DHL GoGreen, and the company cites FSC and PEFC certification along with partnerships with natureOffice and Climate Partner.
The social commitment is built into each sale: one euro from every skincare product goes to a humedica project, currently in Tigray.
Recognition & press
Independent coverage of the brand is limited. In February 2020 the Beauty-Blog Berlin published a review of Eye & Lip DNA Repair, marked as advertising, in which the reviewer praised the cream's quick absorption, the moisture it gave and how well it was tolerated. Beyond the founder's unnamed international awards for active-ingredient development, no awards for the brand or its products are documented.
Current status
Dr. Hauck is active. As of October 2026, its online shop was running a gift-with-purchase promotion for the whole month, and its about page carried the current humedica project in Tigray. The company remains small and founder-led, with David Hauck as managing director and Brigitte Hauck heading the laboratory.
