Summary

Overview

Dr Irena Eris is a Polish skincare company founded in 1983 by the pharmacist Irena Eris and her husband Henryk Orfinger [4]. Built near Warsaw during the final years of Communist Poland, it grew from a small cream-making operation into one of the country's most recognised cosmetics brands and the only Polish company admitted to the French luxury association Comité Colbert. The company remains active: it publishes a formal ESG report, the most recent dated October 2025, and reports selling in more than 60 countries.

The business is structured as more than a product line. Alongside its cosmetics, the company runs a network of Dr Irena Eris Skin Care Institutes offering tailored professional treatments and a group of five-star spa hotels in Poland, which it describes as a single holistic ecosystem.

Origin & founders

The company began as a response to scarcity. Irena Eris, who holds a doctorate in pharmacy from Humboldt University in Berlin, observed that cosmetic imports were largely unavailable in Communist-era Poland and set out to fill the gap [3]. According to an editorial account, she and Orfinger took a considerable financial risk to start, borrowing the equivalent of "six Polski Fiats", and opened with a modest output of around 3,000 jars of cream a month, distributed using the family car [5]. The firm pressed on through bureaucratic obstacles to become, in time, Poland's most recognised skincare maker. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 opened export markets that the family company went on to expand into.

The brand's registered headquarters are listed on its own site at Piaseczno, a town in the Warsaw metropolitan area [2]; editorial and association sources place the company more broadly "near Warsaw" or in Warsaw itself, describing the same region [4].

Ownership

Dr Irena Eris is a family company. Irena Eris (born Irena Szołomicka-Orfinger) serves as co-owner and as its research and development director, overseeing new product launches and supervising manufacturing [3]. No parent company or outside owner is recorded in the available sources.

Philosophy & positioning

The company positions itself at the luxury end of the market and frames its work around science and research. Comité Colbert describes it as "a Polish luxury cosmetics group" that cultivates innovation through its own research centre [4]. The company states its core values as the highest quality, honesty, respect and continuous innovation, and a founder quote on its site sums up the outlook: "Our company was built on dreams, passion and work, and keeps growing thanks to all the people who are a part of it."

Products & innovation

Skincare is the company's core, supported by an in-house Dr Irena Eris Center for Science and Research staffed by specialists in fields including pharmacy, molecular biology, dermatology and aesthetic medicine. The company says its formulas are developed from its own patent applications and proprietary technologies, marketed through product systems it calls PROSYSTEM PROFESSIONAL for professional use and PROSYSTEM HOME CARE for consumers. It also reports publishing research in international scientific journals.

The brand emphasises specific actives in its formulations, among them vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and L-ascorbic acid, along with folic acid and potassium. An editorial source describes the company as "one of the first in the world to use Folic Acid and Potassium in skincare", a claim it links to a 2005 use of folic acid intended to help repair DNA damage [5]; this originates with the brand and editorial coverage and is not independently verified here.

Recognition

In 2012 Dr Irena Eris became the only Polish brand accepted into Comité Colbert, the French association of luxury houses whose membership had previously been limited to French companies [3]. It has remained a member since.

Current status

The company is active and operating across multiple regions. It reports having expanded to more than 60 countries by 2024 and published an ESG report on responsible business in October 2025 [1]. Its research centre, institutes and spa hotels continue to operate under the Dr Irena Eris name.
