Summary

Overview

Dr. Santé is a Ukrainian maker of natural-ingredient cosmetics, focused mainly on haircare and skincare. It belongs to Elfa Group, a cosmetics holding founded in Ukraine in 1997 that today runs a portfolio of around fifteen brands and manufactures across Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine [2]. The line is positioned at the drugstore end of the market and is sold through retail partners in a large number of countries.

Elfa Group describes Dr. Santé as having been "17 years on the market," which places its launch around 2009 [1]. The brand remains active: its parent continues to distribute it internationally, with the most recent documented product launch dated to 2021.

Origin & founders

Dr. Santé originated within Elfa Group, the Ukrainian holding that began in 1997 as a cosmetics distributor before developing its own brands. Elfa Pharm, the group's first in-house cosmetic line, launched in 2008 with an anti-hair-loss series called "Burdock" [3]; Dr. Santé followed as one of the group's earliest consumer brands.

The brand's founding date is recorded inconsistently across sources. Elfa Group's own brand page states that Dr. Santé has been "17 years on the market," implying an origin around 2009 [1]. Other accounts tied to the brand's Polish branch give later dates: the company that became Vis Plantis (formerly Elfa Pharm Polska) was established in 2011, and lists 2014–2015 as when it extended its assortment to include Dr. Santé [4]. These later dates describe the brand's arrival in Polish distribution rather than its Ukrainian origin. No individual founders are publicly identified for either Dr. Santé or its parent.

History & milestones

Elfa Group's history sets the backdrop for the brand. The holding was founded in 1997, and its first own-label cosmetic series appeared under Elfa Pharm in 2008. Dr. Santé followed around 2009, and reached Polish retail through Elfa Pharm Polska in 2014.

Two later launches mark the brand's product development. In 2020 it introduced Cannabis Hair, a vegan haircare line built around hemp oil, and in 2021 it released Hyaluron Mezzo Pro, a facial skincare series the company describes as giving "a powerful non-injection moisturizing and lifting effect." In 2023, Elfa Pharm Polska became independent and rebranded as Vis Plantis, stepping away from the Dr. Santé label; the brand stayed with its Ukrainian parent, Elfa Group [4].

Ownership

Dr. Santé is owned by Elfa Group, which lists it among a portfolio that also includes Green Pharmacy, Elfa Pharm, O'Herbal, Fresh Juice and others [2]. The group manufactures at facilities in Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine and keeps offices in Kyiv, Łódź and Nové Mesto nad Váhom.

The brand's corporate relationship with its former Polish distributor changed in 2023, when Elfa Pharm Polska split off as the independent company Vis Plantis [4]. After that separation, Dr. Santé has been managed by the Ukrainian parent rather than the Polish entity.

Philosophy & positioning

Dr. Santé positions itself as natural cosmetics built around plant-derived ingredients. According to the company, most products avoid SLES, SLS, mineral oils, dyes, added fragrances and parabens, and are not tested on animals [1]. Third-party retailer descriptions echo this, noting formulations based on plant extracts, oils and vitamin complexes.

The brand frames its appeal around confidence and self-care, saying it "inspires women to be beautiful and confident." Its parent group states a broader mission "to create cosmetics that make everyone feel special." In market terms, the line sits in the affordable drugstore tier and is often grouped with the Eastern-European pharmacy-cosmetics tradition.

Products & innovation

Haircare is the brand's largest category. Its range is organised into ingredient-led collections — among them Argan, Macadamia, Keratin, Aloe and Coconut lines — each typically offering a shampoo, mask, balm, oil and spray. Beyond hair, Dr. Santé offers skincare such as the Cucumber Balance Control line for normal to oily skin, with face creams, micellar fluids and cleansing milks.

Two products stand out as the brand's more distinctive launches: the vegan Cannabis Hair line (2020) and the Hyaluron Mezzo Pro skincare series (2021), the latter marketed on a non-injection moisturizing and lifting concept. On quality, retailer sources state that the products meet ISO 9001:2008 requirements and that their hypoallergenic properties were confirmed by a certificate from the Polish Cosmetology Center of Doctor Kozei [5]. Elfa Group says its products are made according to ISO 9001 and ISO 22716 standards [6].

Current status

Dr. Santé is an active brand. Elfa Group continues to distribute it internationally, and its parent's promotional material cites presence in around twenty countries [1]. The most recent product launch documented in the sources is the 2021 Hyaluron Mezzo Pro series; no signals of dormancy or discontinuation were found.
