Overview
Eilas, trading as Eilas Naturkosmetik, is a Swedish natural-cosmetics company that has manufactured plant-based skincare since 1987 [1]. It is a small family business based in Saltsjö-Boo, a locality in Nacka Municipality just east of Stockholm [5]. The company makes creams, oils, salves and related products from cold-pressed vegetable oils, herbs and essential oils, and sells them directly and through pharmacies, health-food shops and Nordic beauty retailers in Sweden and Finland.
The brand remains active. Its own website was running a product campaign valid through June 2026, and its range is carried by major Swedish online pharmacies and the beauty retailer Lyko.
Origin
Eilas began in 1987 as a home venture. According to the brand's own account, production at the start took place in the kitchen and living room, making skincare on a small scale from vegetable oils [13]. Several retailers describe the same starting point: what one pharmacy calls "a hobby and an interest in herbs and natural medicine" gradually grew into a skincare label sold in health-food stores [12]. The founder is not named in any of the company's public material.
Over time, demand grew and the operation moved out of the home. Today the company says it manufactures in its own small factory [13], and several third-party retailers repeat the founding date of 1987, giving the brand a continuous history of more than three decades [14].
Philosophy and positioning
Eilas describes itself as skincare "based on ancient knowledge of plants' beneficial properties." The formulating approach centres on cold-pressed, vitamin-rich vegetable oils and fats, with herbs and essential oils added for their active substances, colour and scent. The company says it declares each individual essential oil rather than listing the collective term "parfum," and uses natural preservatives in its water-based products.
A defining part of the positioning is what the company leaves out. Eilas openly rejects mineral oils and synthetic silicones, arguing on its site that mineral oils "contain neither minerals nor anything beneficial for skin" and do not break down in nature [11]. It frames this as both a skin-care and an environmental position, contrasting cheap, long-lasting petroleum-derived ingredients with plant oils it says improve the skin's natural functions. The brand's stated long-term goal is to work only with materials that are organic "from start to finish" [9].
Products
The range spans face, body, hair, lips, feet and massage products, with natural and vegan options. Recurring items across the company's own listings and retailer pages include an aloe cream for dry skin, rose face water, jojoba oil, lavender massage oil, and a line of cerat (salve) variants in scents such as marigold, orange, mint and tea tree. Retailer catalogues also list carrot oil, arnica salve, a rose clay mask and several natural deodorants.
Most products draw their vitamin content from the vegetable oils themselves, with vitamin E added as an antioxidant to extend shelf life. Because the formulas rely on plant oils rather than synthetic stabilisers, the company notes that they do not keep indefinitely and recommends use within six months of opening.
Ethics and sustainability
Eilas states that it completely rejects testing cosmetic raw materials and finished products on animals, and that it would discontinue any ingredient that became animal-tested [8]. The company is not, however, fully vegan: it uses a small number of animal-derived materials it says involve no killing of animals — beeswax, lanolin and whey protein — while avoiding ingredients such as collagen and glycerides sourced from slaughterhouse waste [8]. The "vegan" label on the site therefore applies to a sub-line rather than the whole catalogue.
On sustainability, the company says its vegetable oils and fats are largely organically grown and produced, and that it continually seeks better sourcing. Packaging is described as recyclable — bottles in PET plastic, airless containers in polypropylene — and the company participates in REPA, a Swedish packaging-recycling scheme [9]. No third-party eco-certifications such as COSMOS or Leaping Bunny are claimed; the site displays a Swedish certified-e-commerce badge rather than a product certification.
Manufacturing and regulation
Manufacturing takes place in the company's own factory in Sweden, following the rules that apply to skincare production, including Good Manufacturing Practice. The company states that its products are registered with Läkemedelsverket, the Swedish Medical Products Agency [2], a point its retailers repeat as added assurance of quality and safety.
Distribution
Eilas uses a multi-channel model. It sells directly through its own webshop and supplies a network of physical resellers — health-food stores, beauty salons, massage clinics and wellness centres — across more than thirty Swedish municipalities, with the largest concentration in Stockholm [4]. The brand also lists online partners including Apotea, Bodystore and Lyko. Beyond Sweden, it is distributed in Finland, where its own reseller list names stockists in towns including Ekenäs, Hangö, Malax and Solf [4].
Recognition
As a small indie brand, Eilas has limited press coverage. The most substantial third-party endorsement on record is an early one: a 2011 Swedish skincare blog titled the brand "my superior favourite," with the author describing herself as a multi-year user and highlighting that the company offered orderable product samples [16]. Major Nordic retailers such as Apotea and Lyko present the brand chiefly by reproducing its own founding story and product description rather than offering independent editorial assessment.
Current status
Eilas is active. It continues to operate from Saltsjö-Boo, maintains an online shop, and was running a website campaign dated through June 2026. Its products remain available through major Swedish pharmacies and beauty retailers and, via those channels, in Finland.
