Summary

Overview

élass cosmetics is a small German maker of skincare and body-care products, run by élass Cosmetics GmbH from Meinerzhagen [2]. Its range is split into two lines. The larger one, sold as "Hildegard von Bingen Hausmittel" (roughly "Hildegard von Bingen home remedies"), draws on the herbal tradition associated with the 12th-century abbess Hildegard von Bingen. The second, OBLEPICHA® MED, is a face-care line built around sea buckthorn oil.

The brand is active and sells mainly through its own German-language webshop. When and by whom the company was founded is not publicly documented, and its corporate history can be traced mainly through commercial-register entries.

Company and headquarters

The legal notice on the company's webshop gives an address in Meinerzhagen, Germany, and states that élass Cosmetics GmbH is entered in the commercial register of the district court in Iserlohn [2]. Older sources place the company elsewhere. Gelbe Liste, a German database of medicines and pharmacy products, still lists it at an address in Ludwigsburg [7], while a company profile on the business portal wirtschaftsforum.de names Bietigheim [6].

These addresses are less a contradiction than a trail of moves. Commercial-register records show the registered seat first in Ludwigsburg, then in Bietigheim-Bissingen from 2017, and in Meinerzhagen from 2022 [5]. The older listings appear simply not to have caught up with the relocations.

The management picture is less tidy. The webshop's legal notice names Armin Lütticke and Vanessa Lütticke as managing directors [2]. A commercial-register publication dated 31 March 2025, however, states that Vanessa Lütticke is no longer a managing director [5], while the legal notice still lists her. No parent company or outside owner is publicly documented.

The shop that élass Cosmetics operates, at hildegard-von-bingen-hausmittel.de, is broader than the brand itself. Alongside the élass lines it stocks foot-care, nail, depilation and face-care goods from other manufacturers, including ALOVISA creams and accessories listed as made by Franz Lütticke GmbH. The products the shop lists as manufactured by élass Cosmetics GmbH are those of the Hildegard von Bingen Hausmittel and OBLEPICHA® MED lines.

Philosophy and positioning

The company frames its work around the idea of monastic knowledge. Its tagline reads "KLOSTERWISSEN – Alt bewährte Hausmittel, erneuert und ergänzt in Apothekenqualität", which translates as "monastic knowledge: tried-and-tested home remedies, renewed and supplemented in pharmacy quality". According to élass, the natural substances, plant extracts and oils it uses were already described in detail by Hildegard von Bingen in the 12th century, and this knowledge has been reworked in line with present-day understanding [3].

An outside description follows the same lines. Apel Kommunikation, a design agency in Stuttgart, presents the brand in its client portfolio as natural cosmetics rooted in the philosophy of the Benedictine nun, who built up and documented a wide knowledge of natural healing. In the agency's account, the products are developed from natural and near-natural substances to support general well-being [8]. The agency says it created a corporate design for the website haus-der-naturprodukte.de, along with direct mailings and the packaging design for the OBLEPICHA® MED line.

Several products are labelled "Naturkosmetik" (natural cosmetics), though no certification body is named for that label. A number of the Hildegard balms carry the wording "suitable for diabetics, vegan, gluten-free" on their individual product pages; this is stated product by product rather than as a promise covering the whole range.

The brand's language also leans towards skin conditions. The company presents its frankincense balm as a basis for intensive care of skin affected by psoriasis and neurodermatitis (atopic eczema), and describes the OBLEPICHA® MED Skin Repair cream as regenerating, soothing and smoothing. No clinical testing is cited for these descriptions.

The profile on wirtschaftsforum.de names Germany and Austria as the company's target countries, and lists people aged 60 and over, naturopathic practitioners and followers of natural medicine as its target groups [6].

Products

### Hildegard von Bingen Hausmittel

The Hildegard line consists mostly of balms and creams for the face and body. The Kloster Knie- und Gelenkhautbalsam, a skin balm for knees and joints, combines arnica, horse chestnut and comfrey extracts with almond and sea buckthorn oil. It is intended for the skin over joints, hips, knees, legs, feet and arms.

Other products in the line include a frankincense balm (Weihrauchbalsam) and a violet skin-care balm (Veilchen Hautpflegebalsam), which the company describes as day and night care for mature skin on the face, neck and décolleté. A rose oil skin-care cream pairs rose oil with evening primrose oil, jojoba oil, rosemary extract and chamomile. The line also includes an aloe vera gel sold as "ALOE VERA GEL 98%", listed on the webshop with élass Cosmetics GmbH as its manufacturer [1].

The listing in Gelbe Liste gives a wider view of the catalogue. It records 15 products under the company name, among them a leg and vein balm, a "Benediktiner Essenz", a balm for cracked skin, a warming cream, and a shoulder and back ointment, all in the Hildegard von Bingen range [7].

### OBLEPICHA® MED

The second line centres on sea buckthorn oil (Hippophae rhamnoides oil). On its OBLEPICHA® MED page, the company says sea buckthorn has featured in its care range for 25 years; the page carries no date, so the starting point of that period cannot be fixed [4]. élass describes the oil as a household remedy used for centuries in Russia, Asia and Tibet, pressed from both the seeds and the fruit pulp.

The company attributes several properties to the oil. It points to unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acid, which it says resemble the fats in the skin's upper layers, and to a high carotenoid content. It also highlights palmitoleic acid, which it credits with a calming effect on irritated and stressed skin.

The line covers a basic face routine. It includes a cleansing milk with sea buckthorn oil, vitamin E and plant glycerin, and a facial toner. There is a day cream that adds rosemary, carrot, allantoin, beeswax and vitamin E to sea buckthorn extract. The Skin Repair cream is a richer formula for day and night use. Gelbe Liste also lists an OBLEPICHA Superior Skin night cream under the company's name.
