Overview
Evolve Organic Beauty is an independent British skincare company founded in 2009 by Laura Rudoe and based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. It makes certified-organic skincare alongside a smaller range of body, hair and wellness products, formulating and manufacturing everything in-house in small batches. The company positions itself around three pillars it calls "pure, proven, purposeful," pairing natural and organic ingredients with claims of clinical performance.
The brand is the consumer-facing arm of Good Ventures, the ethical development company Rudoe set up in 2008, and it remains active and founder-led. It carries an unusually full stack of third-party certifications for a company of its size — COSMOS organic, B Corp, Leaping Bunny and Vegan Society — and sells in more than 20 countries.
Origin & founders
Evolve was started by Laura Rudoe, who holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and worked in management consulting and venture capital before moving into beauty in 2005 as a founding employee of NUDE skincare [11][10]. In 2008 she established Good Ventures as an ethical development company, and launched Evolve the following year [11].
According to the company, the brand "was born from a desire to lead a beauty evolution" and to set "a new beauty standard—where organic purity meets clinical performance." Rudoe has said her interest in natural products grew out of her own experience with skin problems and an interest in holistic living, and that the early decision to make products by hand in small batches began as a practical necessity before becoming a defining feature of the business. In a 2019 interview she noted that she "spent about 7 years developing Evolve Beauty before it really took off."
History & milestones
When it launched in 2009, Evolve was stocked in retailers including John Lewis, Planet Organic and Whole Foods, and its first packaging was made from recycled milk bottles. For its earliest years the company relied on a UK-based manufacturing partner.
A turning point was the move to producing everything itself. The brand's own timeline dates the start of in-house manufacturing to 2015, the year it also introduced updated branding and launched what became its best-known product, the Hyaluronic Serum 200 [7]; an earlier company page gives the studio opening as 2014 [3]. In 2019 it consolidated production in a purpose-built eco studio in Hertfordshire, described as powered by renewable energy.
The 2020s brought a run of certifications and product launches. The company obtained Vegan Society Trademark certification in 2020, mapped and offset its carbon emissions and gained Leaping Bunny certification in 2021, and became a certified B Corporation in 2022 — the same year it reported reaching its hundredth industry award [7]. In 2023 it had its face-care range certified pregnancy-friendly and introduced bio-based sugarcane tubes for some products. The company marked its fifteenth anniversary in 2024.
Ownership
Evolve Organic Beauty is owned by Good Ventures, the company Laura Rudoe founded in 2008 [11]. The business has remained independent and founder-led throughout, a status the company presents as central to its approach, arguing that staying private frees it from outside pressure to compromise on formulation. Good Ventures has been associated with related skincare ventures, including the sister brand S5 Skincare and a separate brand, Adaptology.
Philosophy & positioning
Evolve describes itself as a "purpose-driven, independent British beauty brand" combining organic purity with clinical performance. Its stated mission is "to create innovative, sustainable, and pure products that nurture your skin and the planet," summarised through the "pure, proven, purposeful" value pillars and a fourth idea, "created by us," referring to in-house formulation and small-batch production.
The company says its products are over 99% natural and certified organic, and that it screens more than 150 ingredients for ethical and sustainable sourcing, biodegradability and GMO-free status. It excludes animal-derived materials such as beeswax and milk. The positioning is consistently indie and British-made, and the brand markets itself under the line "Award Winning Artisan Skincare."
Products & innovation
Evolve's range centres on skincare — cleansers, toners, serums, moisturisers, masks, eye and lip care and SPF — with a secondary line of body, hair and wellness products. Hero ingredients highlighted by the company include hyaluronic acid, bio-retinol, vitamin C, peptides, rosehip oil and AHAs.
Its signature product is the Hyaluronic Serum 200, launched in 2015 and described in the brand's own timeline as a global bestseller [7]; it was a finalist at the Get The Gloss Beauty Awards in 2024 [14]. Other frequently cited products include the Nightly Renew Facial Cream, the Gentle Cleansing Melt and the Bio-Retinol Gold Mask. The company makes some quantified performance claims: it states that its Age Defying Lifting Serum, launched in 2023, achieved a 43% reduction in wrinkles in clinical trials [7].
Recognition
Evolve has accumulated a substantial body of industry awards, particularly from the UK's Beauty Shortlist Awards, where it was named Best Natural / Organic Skincare Brand in 2017 [7]. At the 2024 edition it won Best Natural/Organic Brand in the Age 30+ category and took several product awards, including Best Moisturiser for Sensitive Skin and Best Calming Moisturiser for its Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream, Best Serum for its Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum, Best SPF Product and Best Lip Oil [13]. Founder Laura Rudoe has also been the subject of trade and editorial profiles, including features in Scratch Magazine and British Style Society.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a prominent part of Evolve's positioning, and Rudoe has framed the company's ambition as moving "beyond sustainability to become regenerative." It holds COSMOS organic certification through Ecocert, which the company says requires a 95% organic-ingredient minimum and annual independent audits [6]. Its B Corp certification carries a reported B Impact Score of 92, and the company states it was among the first 1,000 certified B Corps in the UK [6].
On emissions, Evolve says it has offset 894 tonnes of CO2 through rainforest, mangrove and peatland projects, and has set a science-based target of cutting carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050 across its value chain [6]. The company also reports using recycled and FSC-certified packaging, offering plastic-free refills for some products, and prioritising regenerative agriculture in ingredient sourcing.
Current status
Evolve Organic Beauty is active. The company celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in 2024, introduced new branding and packaging in 2025, and sells internationally through a multi-currency online store serving the UK, Europe, the US and other markets. It manufactures from its Hertfordshire eco studio, reports a team of roughly 35 people, and remains independent and founder-led.
